Type III Bottom Gear System Replacement
for E-Series Hinged Inswing and Outswing AP/PA Patio Doors
Use caution when working at elevated heights and around unit openings.
Follow manufacturers’ instructions for ladders and/or scaffolding. Failure
to do so may result in injury or death.
Follow manufacturers’ instructions for hand or power tools. Always
wear safety glasses. Failure to do so may result in injury and/or

Turn
Break varnish or paint seal by scoring between panel and astragal with
utility knife.
Note the orientation and location of corner foam pads at top (outswing patio door only) and bottom of astragal. Remove corner pad(s) and
save for reuse.
Open passive door by rotating thumb turn to unlock hardware. Then push down on handle to open
passive panel.

Remove astragal and save for reuse.
Remove interior and exterior handle/escutcheon plate and save for reuse.
Loosen handle set screw with a 2.5 mm hex key.
Remove two (2) escutcheon plate screws and dispose of properly.

and save for reuse.

With passive panel open, pull weatherstrip back 4" at top of panel.

Remove screws attaching astragal to panel. Save for reuse.

Remove all screws securing gear system to
panel. Save screws for reuse.
Doors less than 8'-0" Doors 8'-0" and Greater
Note orientation of top reversing gear (doors < 8') or shoot bolt extension (doors > 8') to gear
system. Slide clip up to remove gear system from edge of panel and dispose of properly.

Install and fasten saved bottom screw of top reversing gear (doors < 8') or saved bottom screw on shoot bolt extension (doors > 8'). Do not
overtighten screws. Failure to do so will cause top reversing gear or shoot bolt extension to not function properly.

Reapply interior and exterior handle/ escutcheon plate.
Secure gear system to panel with saved
screws. Use Phillips screwdriver to snug
screws. Over-tightening of screws may cause
gear system to not function properly.
Position new gear system into edge of panel while aligning with top reversing gear (doors < 8') or
shoot bolt extension (doors ≥ 8'). Slide clip over intersection.

Reapply corner foam pad(s) at same locations noted in step 4.
Type III Gear System replacement is
completed.
Close passive door panel. Lock door panel by rst lifting up on handle, then turning thumb turn
counterclockwise.
Close and lock active door panel. Check for
correct lock operation.
