6 Keep piece PD36 for a later assembly session. Attach the

5 In similar way, attach piece PD33 on the left-hand side of the
hull. is decoration must be xed a little further aft than those
xed in the two previous steps.
8 On the aft section of the hull, x two pairs of decorations
PD31 and PD32, using the same method as in the previous step.
7 Glue two pieces PD31 and two pieces PD32 on the forward
section of the right-hand side of the hull, in the positions shown
in the photos. e decorations should be placed 1mm from the
horizontal and vertical frames.
10 Assemble the cannon that came with this stage and equip it
with two blocks. en, give the other two blocks an eyebolt each.

6 Cut pieces CE8, CE4 and CE5 from the die. ese pieces are
the cheeks and the components of the crosstree that will be fixed
under the platform of the middle top.
56
9 Turn the top over. Put a thin layer of glue on the ends of the
bars and join the crosstree to the platform of the top, centring it.
78

10 Cut out the pieces CE6 from the two die. After smoothing
with fine-grained sandpaper, glue them one on the other, aligning
them carefully.

7 Join the sidebars CE5 and the crossbars CE4, as shown in the photo, making sure that the
pieces are at right angles to one another. NOTE: Before fitting top C3 (in Stage 114), you will
need to adapt this crosstree to support the masts by adding two shims and a central support to it. It is
advisable that you do this now. Make the pieces out of scrap wood from a laser-cut die. Refer to the
photo above right: the bottom shim should be 1mm thick and the top shim should be 0.5mm thick.
Position the middle mast support (2.5mm thick) at a distance of 4mm from the 1mm shim and a
distance of 3mm from the 0.5mm shim. Glue these in place with some wood glue.

11 Cut the four pieces CE7
from the die and glue one above
the other, ensuring that they
are perfectly aligned with one
another, as shown.
12 Glue the piece resulting from
joining CE7 over the 6mm-
diameter hole on piece CE6
that you assembled in Step 10.
NOTE: Before fitting the mast
cap (in Stage 114), you will need
to adapt it to fit the diameter of
the mast dowel. Again, you can
do this later, but it will be easier
if you do this along with the rest
of this step. Make four shims
1mm thick and fit these to the
inside edge of CE6’s 6mm hole.
en do the same with four
0.5mm shims and the smaller
4mm hole, so that the two holes
have an inside diameter of 4mm
and 3mm.
13 Smooth piece CE7 with a sanding-block, aligning it perfectly with
the base of CE6. Paint it black.
14 is is what the top, the cheeks and the cap look like when
completed. (e additional mast supports and shims on top CE3’s
crosstrees and CE6’s mast caps, fitted in Steps 7 and 12, are not
shown in this photo.)
15 With pieces CF1, CF2 and CF3, assemble the upper top of
the foremast. Paint it a sapele colour and red, and add a coat of
protective varnish, as you did with the middle top.
16 Make the crosstree of the upper top with pieces CF4, CF5 and
CF6. Paint the crosstree and the cheeks CF9 with a sapele colour
and protective varnish.

17 18
18 With pieces CF7 and CF8, assemble the third cap of the
foremast, leaving the smaller, 2mm diameter hole free. Finally,
paint the cap black.
19
20
21
22 Assemble the cannon attached to the issue and equip it with
two blocks. Finally, give the other two blocks two eyebolts. Put all
these pieces aside for your next assembly session.
21 Paint the entire inside a sapele colour and add a coat of
protective varnish. en, with a fine paintbrush, paint part of the
edges of the inside gold, as shown in the two photos.
20 Move on to the cradle of the boat. Cut out pieces 177 and 178
and join them at right angles by using the grooves. Take care that
the holes of the pieces 177 face the same way.

12 Install the cannon on the deck of your model. Before using
glue, check that the cannon rests rmly on the deck and that it is
centred on the gun port.
15 e gun barrel must be perfectly centred in the opening
of the gun port.
14 Fix the cannon on the right-hand side of the deck, placing the
gun carriage 3mm from the bulwark, with the barrel protruding
out of the gun port.
13 Put a drop of glue on the bottom of each of the four wheels of
the cannon.

cannon and make a pencil mark on the bulwark at the eyebolt and
