SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Take the two 105mm chainwales
remaining from those cut in Stage 106.
Mark holes at the points shown in the
photo, 2mm in from one side.
Use a 1mm drill bit to make a hole at
each of the points on the chainwale.
Then sand it smooth.

Remove five knees from one of the
knee frets and smooth with sandpaper.
Glue the chainwale onto the side of the
hull, below the top row of gun ports
and just aft of the foremast hole.
Glue the five knees to the gunwale
and chainwale at the points indicated by
the arrows.

Drill a 2mm hole in each of the three
gun ports below the mizzen chainwales
on both sides of the hull.
Glue the port foremast chainwale and
knees to the hull. When the glue has
dried, paint both foremast chainwales
and knees with wood stain.
Retrieve the six dummy cannons from
Stage 109, and test-fit a cannon in each
of the gun ports drilled in the previous
step. Then apply glue to the end of one
of the cannons.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Retrieve the stern gallery decoration
from the previous stage and hold it
against the stern, as shown, aligning the
edges of both.
The decoration is made from a metal
that is easy to shape. Align the upper
edge of the decoration with the top
of the transom and carefully push the
sides in to match the curve (inset).
Clean the surface of the decoration in
preparation for painting.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Paint the background of the decoration
with blue paint, leaving the border and
floral parts gold.
Paint the edges and detailed sides of
the decoration with gold paint. You
don’t need to paint the back, because it
will not be visible when it is glued to
the transom.
Use the same brown paint used for the
quarter galleries on the inner border
of the decoration. Wait for the paint to
dry before proceeding.

Retrieve the five gun port frames and
doors from Stage 110. Glue the parts
together and paint the insides of the
doors with red paint.
Hold the decoration up against the
transom to check that it still has the
correct shape.
Glue the five gun port frames to the
five gun ports (arrowed).

Glue a dummy cannon into each of
the drilled holes along the second
row of gun ports. Repeat this process
for the second row on the other side of
the hull.
Recover the 18 dummy cannons from
previous stages. Drill holes in the
centre of each port, along the second
row of gun ports with a 1mm drill bit.

should look at this stage. Keep any left-

Retrieve the eyebolts supplied with
Stage 79. Using a 0.75mm bit, drill a
hole at the point shown in the photo.
Apply glue to the end of an eyebolt and
insert it into the hole.
Drill another 0.75mm hole at the point
shown on the right and glue an eyebolt
into it. Test-fit the eyebolt first to check
that it doesn’t project past the inside of
the gunwale.

eyebolt into it at the point shown.
Retrieve the 0.15mm thread from
Stage 110. Cut a piece of thread about
100mm in length. Pass the end of the
thread through the loop in an eyebolt
until the eyebolt is in the centre of
the thread, and tie an overhand knot
around the loop.

it around a 4mm block, as shown.
Place a 4mm block over the knot,
above the eyebolt, with the hole
positioned closest to the eyebolt. Pass
the two ends of the thread around the
groove in the block and tie in a knot at
the top. Apply glue to the knot and cut
away the excess thread.
Holding the block with tweezers, twist
the thread around. Apply some glue
to the twisted thread to prevent it
from unravelling.

equally spaced points along each of the
lengths. Mark 12 of these lengths.
Drill four holes in the poop deck, in
line with the gunwale. Glue a block into
the second hole and an eyebolt into
each of the remaining three. Repeat for
the other side of the hull.
Separate the 25mm lengths from
each other and drill a 1.5mm hole

Fit the 5mm (red arrows) and 4mm
(blue arrows) deadeyes and chains to
the foremast chainwale and side of the
hull. As you can see, the lengths and
angles of the chains vary to avoid the
gun ports.
Lightly hammer a nail (received in a
previous stage) through the end link
of each of the two chains and into the
drilled holes, to secure the ends of
the chains.
