SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
To begin making the chainwales, cut the
2 x 15 x 300mm strips from Stage 105
into two 75mm lengths, two 105mm
lengths and two 135mm lengths.
Smooth the surfaces of the strips with
sandpaper.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Drill a 1mm hole at each of the points
marked in the previous step.
Take one of the 75mm lengths and
mark points at the distances shown in
the photo, 2mm in from the edge.
This photo shows the position of the
mizzen chainwale. Glue it into place
above the three aft gun port frames of
the highest gun deck, and make sure
it’s positioned with the holes outermost.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Remove eight of the knees from the
fret. Smooth any roughness with a file
or sandpaper.
Make sure that the mizzen chainwale is
perfectly horizontal. You may need to
shape it slightly to fit the curvature of
the hull.
Glue four of the knees to the side of
the hull and the top of the chainwale,
as shown. You may need to adjust their
shape slightly so they don’t extend past
the edges of either.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Repeat Steps C-I for the port
chainwale, as shown.
Paint the chainwale and the knees with
the same stain used with the previously
stained parts.
The photo shows how the assembly
should look at this stage. Keep any left-
over material, as it will be used later.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Test-fit the figurehead in place at the
front of the stem.
It is likely that you will need to adjust
the strips that the figurehead is in
contact with. Cut or sand them until the
fit is correct and then glue into position.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Pass the end of the eyebolt into the
hole at the top of the bell. Slide the
bell all the way up the eyebolt, then
apply glue to the inside of the bell to
secure it.
Pick up the belfry (Stage 106), bell
(105) and an eyebolt from any previous
stage. Open the loop at the end of the
eyebolt, and hook it into the loop of the
belfry. Close the loop of the eyebolt,
and then stand the belfry upright and
fix the eyebolt into position with glue.
Cut the end of the eyebolt so that it is
in line with the bottom of the bell.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Cut two 25mm lengths of 1 x 4mm
wooden strip, and glue them to the
tops of the columns and up against
the belfry.
Glue the belfry in the centre of the
main deck, up against the bow end
of the opening. Then glue two small
columns either side of the belfry, as
shown (arrows).
Remove a pair of knees from the fret
from the previous stage. Smooth with
sandpaper and paint the knees and the
strips from the previous step with wood
stain. Glue the two knees up against the
bow side of the belfry, as shown.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Prepare two more knees by sanding
and staining them, and glue them
up against the aft side mizzen pin
rail uprights.
Retrieve the chimney supplied with
Stage 105 and glue it centred between
the two knees, with the opening at the
top facing towards the bow.
The photo shows how the assembly
should look at this stage. Keep any left-
over material, as it will be used later.

Steps A and B, at the tops of the lowest
window frames.
Cut a length of 2 x 2mm wooden
strip to fit in line with the top of the
1 x 4mm strip at the bottom of the
quarter gallery, and another to fit at the
top (arrows). Bend the strips to shape
and glue them into place, in line with
the tops and bottoms of the grid of
vertical strips.
Prepare and glue lengths of 2 x 2mm
wooden strip to fit at the tops and
bottoms of the middle window frames.

place them on top of the port and
starboard quarter galleries. Cut away
any wooden strips that prevent the tops
sitting flush. Then glue them into place.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Paint the strips above the gallery
bottoms with gold paint.
