Deagostini Santisima Trinidad User guide

  • Hello! I've reviewed the user manual for the SANTISIMA TRINIDAD ship model. This document provides detailed, step-by-step instructions, including how to prepare various components like deadeyes, chainwales, and rudder chains, and how to fit all the parts together. I'm here to answer your questions and assist with your assembly process.
  • What materials are needed for Stage 131?
What tools are needed to assemble this model?
How should the deadeyes be fitted?

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Cut 15 20mm lengths of 0.5mm
brass wire.
Loop one of the lengths of wire around

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Insert the end of the wire through one
of the holes in the chainwale until the
deadeye rests on it.
Make sure the holes in the deadeye
are positioned as shown. Then cut the
shorter length of wire and straighten
the other one.
Loop the end of the wire around and
hook the 1.5mm chain over it.

The parts should now look like this.
Secure the chain to the wire with glue.
Close the loop in the wire so that the
chain is secured.
Cut the chain to match the length of the
one shown in the photo. Then drill a
hole 1mm in diameter into the side of
the hull through the last link.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Repeat Steps A-I to fit the foremast
starboard chainwale deadeyes and
chains to the chainwale and hull, as
shown. The deadeyes indicated by the
arrows are 4mm, the rest are 5mm.
Make sure no chains are obstructing
the guns.
Secure the chain to the side of the hull
by placing a nail through the last link
and hammering it into the hole created
in the previous step.

should look at this stage. Keep any left-
over material, as it will be used later.

Cut 17 20mm lengths of 0.5mm brass
wire. Have 3mm and 5mm deadeyes
ready for use.
Wrap 12 of the 17 lengths around
5mm deadeyes, in the same way as on
page 521.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Insert the wire from one of the 5mm
deadeyes into the first hole of the
mainmast starboard chainwale. Create a
loop with the wire and hook the 1.5mm
chain over it. Cut the end of the chain
to match the one shown. Nail the end
of the chain into place, as on page 524.
Wrap the remaining five 20mm
lengths of brass wire around five
3mm deadeyes.
Fit another 5mm deadeye to the
chainwale in the same way. Then fit
a 3mm deadeye into the third hole.
Remember to position the chains so
that they do not obstruct the guns.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Prepare 12 5mm deadeyes and five
3mm deadeyes, as in Steps A-C. Place
the first 5mm deadeye in the first hole
in the mainmast port chainwale, then
create a loop in the wire at the bottom
of the chainwale. Attach the chain to
the loop and secure the other end with
a nail.
Fit the remaining deadeyes to the
chainwale. The 3mm deadeyes are
indicated by arrows.
Fit the rest of the 5mm and 3mm
(arrowed) deadeyes to the port
chainwale.

the chainwale, as shown. The 3mm
deadeyes are indicated by arrows.
Insert the wire from one of the 5mm
deadeyes into the first hole of the
mainmast starboard chainwale. Create a
loop with the wire and hook the 1.5mm
chain over it. Adjust the length of the
chain and then nail it into place.

port side.
Glue 24 of the received pins into the
holes in the pin rails shown in the
photo. It is best to test-fit them first.
This is how the belaying pins and rails
should now appear.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
To make the rudder chains, retrieve
the 3mm rings from Stage 40, plus
some eyebolts and the chain from
Stage 91. Open one of the rings, loop
through an eyebolt and the last link of
the chain, then close the ring.
Loop a second ring through another
eyebolt and the link at the other end of
the chain.

Stage 134

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Glue the two eyebolts at the ends of the
chain into the two holes furthest from
the rudder. Before proceeding, cut the
chain in half.
Drill six holes with a 0.75mm bit. The
holes should be aligned, and positioned
3mm from the edge of the stern gallery.
Loop a ring though four eyebolts and
then close them. Glue the four eyebolts
into the four remaining holes drilled in
Step C. Drill a hole in the rudder and
test-fit two eyebolts in it, inserting them
from both sides. Trim them so that the
ends don’t project out of the hole, and
then glue them into place.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Adjust the chain so that the loops
formed between the rings hang at
the same length. Cut the end of the
chain so that it extends 30mm past the
bottom of the eyebolt in the rudder.
Apply glue to the chain in the rings to
prevent them moving.
Attach some wire to the last link in the
chain to make it easier to handle. Pass
the chain through the rings hanging
from the upper eyebolts, as shown.
Open the loop in the eyebolt glued into
the rudder and hook the last link of the
chain over it. Close the loop.

formed between the rings hang at the
same length before gluing.

Place the bowsprit (part 1) on the
bowsprit plan and mark the angles at
either end, and the length.
Cut away the end of the bowsprit so
that it matches the length of the one on
the plan. Make sure that the angle of
the cut is the same as well.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Once the bowsprit is tapered, lightly
smooth the surface with sandpaper.
The bowsprit tapers slightly, as
shown on the plan. To achieve
this, place the bowsprit under a
sanding block and rotate while
gently applying pressure and
moving along the dowel with
the block. Do this until the
tapering matches.
Mark the lines of the slots shown on
the plan onto the bowsprit.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Smooth the slots with a file, adjusting
the angles or depths slightly if
necessary. Store the bowsprit and its
associated parts together until they are
needed again.
Using a knife, carefully cut out the two
slots from the bowsprit. Make sure the
angles are correct and stop when the
depth matches.
Glue the larger dummy cannons into
the remaining gun ports along the
bottom gun deck. You should now
have all the cannons in position.

rails fore and aft of the foremast hole.
