flush with the brown strips at the stern.
Continue placing strips aft to complete
the row.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Glue another strip on the bottom of the
hull, along the side of the false keel.
Cut the last strip in line with the stern
strips, and then repeat Steps A-E for
the other side of the hull.
Cut away any of the strip that overlaps
the false keel.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Attach the same number of courses on
the other side of the hull. As you can
see in the picture, the false keel should
not be covered.
Glue another two strips aft of the first,
along the edge of the false keel. When
dry, cut off any of the strip that extends
past the keel.
The photo shows how the assembly
should look at this stage. Keep any left-
over material, as it will be used later.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Mark the two midpoints between the
central beam and the fore and aft ends
of the opening, and glue a beam at each
point.
Position the ends of the beam below
the deck, aligning it centrally with the
line marked in Step A.
Glue another four beams in place,
between the three fitted in Steps C
and D.

Continue aft, gluing another plank
in place. When dry, cut off the
overlapping strip.
Once you have all the beams in place,
continue planking the side of the hull.
Glue the first strip from the front edge
of the ninth gun port forward.
Glue a plank at the bow in front of the
fifth gun port.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Complete the row of planks started in
Step H. You should now have seven
rows of planks. Repeat for the other
side of the hull and when dry, cut away
any parts of the planks that cover the
gun ports and the excess from the bow
and stern.
Once dry, cut away the part of the
plank that overlaps the false keel.
The photo shows how the assembly
should look at this stage. Keep any left-
over material, as it will be used later.

the one fitted in Step D, page 262,

Continue placing strips aft to complete
the row that you started in the previous
step. Smooth the strips firmly against
the planks.

Fit another plank above the row placed
in the previous stage.

side of the hull.
Complete the row of planks. When
dry, cut the excess from the bow and
stern.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Continue to place planks up the sides
of the hull. Remember to cut away the
parts of the planks that cover the gun
ports as you go along.
Fit another row of planks above the
previous one. To fit around the curve
of the hull at the bow, the end of the
plank may have to angle up slightly.
Continue to plank the sides until they
extend past the top of the bulwarks.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Starting from the highest part of the
bulwarks (stern) and working forward
to the bow, cut the tops of the planks to
be in line with the tops of the bulwarks.
Move the knife along the tops of the
bulwarks with the tip facing toward
the centre of the hull, as shown in the
picture opposite.
Repeat this at the stern, so that the
bulwarks are completely covered.
The photo shows how the assembly
should look at this stage. Keep any left-
over material, as it will be used later.

Place a brown wooden strip next
to the one alongside the false keel,
positioning it forward of the first one
and overlapping the false keel slightly.
When dry, cut the overlapping part so
that the front of the strip is in line with
the previous strip and the false keel.
Continue aft to complete the row.
Make sure to press along the strips to
make sure they dry flush and smooth
against the hull.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
As you place more strips, they will begin
to leave gaps at the bow. This is okay, as
they will be filled in at a later stage.
It is likely that, due to the curvature of
the hull, the strips in some areas may
overlap one another - in this case cut
away the excess.
As with the bow, you will notice gaps
forming at the stern.

This photo shows how your model
should now look at the bottom of
the hull. If yours is different, go back
through the steps and check that the
number of rows of wooden strips
match.
This is how your model should now
appear at the bow.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Continue to glue strips in rows along
the hull until the planks underneath are
covered (see following step).
As with the planks underneath, to fill
the gaps that have formed between the
brown strips, hold a strip next to one of
the gaps and mark the length of the gap
on the strip, as shown.

Test-fit the wedge in place. Adjust the
fit with sandpaper if necessary and then

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Check the lighter strips toward the top
of the hull and fill any gaps you find
there.
To fill the gaps at the bow, it is
advisable to make wedges longer than
the gap, as shown, and then remove the
excess when dry.
This is how the bow of your model
should now appear.

Once you have completed planking
the hull, check along the false keel and
remove any planks overlapping it.
At the stern, the strips should appear as
they do in the photo shown.

should look at this stage. Keep any left-
over material, as it will be used later.
