SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Retrieve the window frames from the
previous stage. Place the pieces on
the side of the hull and mark the top
and bottom edges with a pencil, in the
same way as you did with the starboard
window frames.
Paint the three sections marked in the
previous step with a grey paint.

Place the railings into position up
against the port quarter gallery to check
that their shape is correct.
You can use a half-round file to bend
the railings to shape. Bend them only
a little at a time to avoid breaking them
with too much bending.
Paint the railings in the same way as
you did for those on the other side of
the quarter gallery: the central section
with dark brown paint and the rest with
gold paint, as shown.

The port quarter gallery should now
be at this stage, with the window frames
and railings in position.
Glue the window frames and railings
into place, starting from the bottom
and working up to the top of the
quarter gallery.
Cut a piece 1 x 4mm wooden strip and
glue it along the bottom of the lowest
window frames, as shown in the photo.

Do the same on the other side of the
hull, placing two pieces of 1 x 4mm
wooden strip at the top and bottom of
the starboard quarter gallery.
Glue another piece of 1 x 4mm
wooden strip at the top of the quarter

should look at this stage. Keep any left-
over material, as it will be used later.

Cut three pieces of 2 x 4mm wooden
strip to fit at the front of the quarter
gallery, between the railings and top
and bottom strips. Glue into place.
Cut a further nine pieces of wooden
strip and glue them over the wider
upright sections of the window frames.

Cut and shape another 2 x 2mm
wooden strip and glue it into place
at the top of the quarter gallery,
aligned with the bottom edge of the
1 x 4mm strip.
Cut a length of 2 x 2mm wooden
strip to fit in line with the top of the
1 x 4mm strip at the bottom of the
quarter gallery. Bend the strip to shape
and glue it into place, in line with
the bottom of the grid of the
window frames.
Cut three lengths of 2 x 2mm strip to fit
between the 2 x 4mm strips placed in
Steps A and B, at the tops of the lowest
window frames.

Cut a further three lengths of wooden
strip and glue them at the bottoms of
the upper window frames, as shown.
Prepare and glue lengths of 2 x 2mm
wooden strip to fit at the tops and
bottoms of the middle window frames.
Paint the wooden frames from Steps A,
B, E, F and G with brown paint.

Now paint the strips at the top with
gold paint.
Paint the strips at the bottom of the
quarter gallery with gold paint.

Roll the brass wire back and forth
under a block of wood to straighten it.
Use a scouring pad or similar to
smooth the surface of the brass wire.

Cut the ends of the strips on top of the
quarterdeck gunwales so that they are
in line with the front of the transom.
Cut the brass wire into nine pieces,
each 10mm in length.
Cut a piece of 2 x 4mm wooden strip
to the same length as one on top of
the gunwale.

Centre the strip over the quarterdeck
gunwale. Hold it in position and drill
through the holes into the gunwale.
Drill nine evenly spaced 1.5mm holes
along the 2 x 4mm wooden strip,
starting 5mm in from each end. This
will be the quarterdeck railing.
Apply glue to one end of each of the
10mm lengths of brass, and place
them into the holes along the strip
from Step F. Take care not to glue
them to your work surface.

Cut a length of 2 x 2mm wooden strip
to the same length as the railing. Glue
the length along the centre of the railing
to hide the tops of the brass wires.
Fit the quarterdeck railing by inserting
the free ends of the lengths of brass
wire into the holes in the gunwale. Use
tweezers to guide the wire lengths into
the holes, and when they are all in
place, apply glue to secure them.

Drill nine evenly spaced 1.5mm holes
along the 2 x 4mm wooden strip
from the previous stage. Start 5mm in
from each end. This will be the port
quarterdeck railing. Then, hold it in
position centered over the quarterdeck
gunwale and drill through the holes into
the gunwale.
Cut the brass wire from the previous
stage into nine pieces, each 10mm in
length. Apply glue to one end of each
of the lengths of brass and place them
into the holes along the strip.

To make the side ladder steps, glue the
6mm lengths under the 8mm lengths,
and the 14mm lengths under the 18mm
lengths, as shown.
Cut 12 14mm lengths and seven 6mm
lengths of 2 x 2mm wooden strip.
Smooth the surfaces of the steps.

Now glue two 18mm steps above the
lower set of three, and glue three below
them, as shown.
Glue an 18mm step below the first
and third raised strips, and another
above the second and fourth. Then
glue another step between the top and
bottom. Ensure that the right edges of
the steps are in line with the gun port
frames (red line).
Glue the remaining 18mm step above
the top set of three. Then glue the
8mm steps at the points shown in
the photo.
