Fit another two strips from Rib 5-8 and
then continuing on, another two from
Rib 5-1, as shown.
Complete the row by fitting another
strip from Rib 8 to Rib 11.
Then, complete these two rows, fitting
another two strips from Rib 8 to Rib

from Rib 10 to 11. Then fit another,
from Rib 8 to Rib 11, cutting off the
excess.
Place another strip from Rib 6 to
halfway across Rib 9, abaft of the strip
fitted in Step G.

notches of A14 with the ends of the
false keel and Rib A7.
Place the rest of the ribs along the false
keel in numerical order, as shown in
the photo.
Place the assembly upside down, as
shown, and apply super glue to the
points of contact between A14, the ribs

Use some sandpaper to shape the ribs
of the ship’s boat into a curve, following

original ribs.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
In this photo you can see how the ribs
should be shaped at the stern.
To shape the areas that are difficult to
reach, use a half round file.
Smooth the ribs once shaped, to create
a better surface on which to fit the
wooden strips.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Start fitting wooden strips to the bottom
of the hull, working up the ribs from
the side of the false keel.
When the ribs are shaped and sanded,
use super glue to fit a 2 x 5mm wooden
strip just above the notches on them.
Remember that the assembly is
upside down.
Continue fitting wooden strips. Secure
them first to the stern, as you will need
to shape them to fit towards the bow.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Mark a line up the centre of the
transom, dividing it into two equal
areas. Fit wooden strips, starting at the
centre line and working to the edge of
the transom. Complete one half, then
the other, and cut off any excess wood
that overlaps the edges of the transom.
Continue fitting wooden strips until
both sides of the hull are covered.

should look at this stage. Keep any left-
over material, as it will be used later.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Smooth the surface of the hull of the
ship’s boat with sandpaper.
Glue a 2 x 2 x 300mm wooden strip
(Stage 44) to either side of the hull,
5mm from the top of the bulwarks,
leaving a 2mm gap between the two
strips at the bow. You may want to
smooth the strips with sandpaper and
soak them in water before you fit them.

Use a knife to cut the tops of the ribs

Holding the assembly steady, use a
saw to separate the hull from the base,
cutting through the ribs just above the
tops of the bulwarks.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Cut some 1 x 3mm wooden strips into
pieces 16mm in length and stain them
the same colour as the ribs. Glue these
lengths into place between the ribs,
positioning them 4mm below the tops
of the bulwarks.
Cut another four lengths to fit either
side of the central one from the
previous step. Round the outer corners
of each strip and glue into place, leaving
a gap of 1mm between each one, as
shown in the photo.
Paint the tops of the ribs with wood
stain to match the rest of them.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Cut another six lengths of 2 x 5mm
wooden strip to fit in the hull, as
shown, to form the thwarts. You will
need to shape the ends not only to
fit the curve of the hull, but also to fit
around the ribs. Use super glue to fix
them in place.
Cut two lengths of wooden strip – one
of 2 x 5mm and the other of 2 x 3mm
– to fit in the space aft of A13. You
will need to shape the ends (dotted
red lines) to slope in, so that they will
sit better in the curve of the hull. Cut
another length of 2 x 3mm wooden
strip to fit in the gap in A13. Glue these
strips into place.
The photo shows how the assembly
should look at this stage. Keep any left-
over material, as it will be used later.
