Deagostini Spitfire User guide

  • Hello, I've reviewed the instructions for building the Spitfire model plane. This document details the assembly process across stages 95-98, covering the attachment of engine components and wing plates. I am ready to assist you with any questions about its contents or the procedures described.
  • What tools are needed for assembly?
What parts are included in stages 95-98?
What should I do after gluing parts?

Build the Spitfire: Step-By-Step
Collect lower wing plate 25 and the template,
both from Stage 93. Place the plate onto the
template to identify it.
Transfer the lines on the template onto the plate.

The plate should now look like this.
5
Turn the plate over and score along the lines with
a knife.
4
Using a ruler as a guide, mark along the lines on
the back of the plate with the rivet marker.
3
Place the plate onto the underside of the left half
of the wing. Mark along the sides where it extends
too far over the frame below.

Build the Spitfire: Step-By-Step
Sand the edges of the plate until it is the correct
size and shape.
Place the plate onto the wing and when dry, secure each of
the four corners with a nail.
When the plate is the correct size, apply glue to
the ribs and spars (dotted lines).

This photo shows the correct position of the plate on the
underside of the wing.
The wing should now look like this. Keep the unused engine
block part to one side.

Collect lower wing plate 25 and the template from
Stage 88. Check the plate against the template.
Transfer the lines from the template onto the

The plate should now look like this; if it doesn’t,
check that all the lines were transferred and
marked properly.
5
Turn the plate over and align the edge of the ruler
with the lines, then score along them with a knife.
4
Push along the lines on the underside of the plate
with the rivet marker, using the ruler as a guide.
3
Test-fit the plate on the underside of the wing, on
the right half. Adjust to fit if necessary.

Build the Spitfire: Step-By-Step
When the plate fits correctly, apply glue to the ribs
and spars, along the dotted lines shown here.
Gently hammer a nail into each of the holes, to
secure the plate.
When dry, pierce a hole in each corner of the
plate (arrows) with an awl.
This shows how the underside of the right half of
the wing should look.
The wing should now look like this. Keep the
exhaust pipes to one side.

Place lower wing plate 19 onto the template from
Stage 91 to identify it.

Build the Spitfire: Step-By-Step
Place the plate back onto the wing and leave until
the glue sets. When dry, pierce a hole in each
corner with an awl.
5
Test-fit the plate again and adjust the shape if
necessary. Then remove it and apply glue to the
contact areas (dotted lines).
4
Use a cylindrical object to curve the plate slightly
to fit the shape of the wing.
3
Lightly hammer a nail into each of the holes in the
corners of the plate.
6
339
Build the Spitfire: Step-By-Step
Place lower wing plate 18 (Stage 91) onto the
template to identify it.
Adjust the shape of the plate if necessary, then
apply glue to the contact points on the wing.
Test-fit the plate in place, and shape to match the
curve of the wing.

Build the Spitfire: Step-By-Step
When dry, pierce a hole in each corner and then hammer a
nail into each hole.

Build the Spitfire: Step-By-Step
Collect lower wing plate 19 and the template from
Stage 85. Place the plate onto the template to

Build the Spitfire: Step-By-Step
Place the plate back into position and leave until
the glue dries. Then, pierce a hole in each corner
of the plate.
5
Adjust the shape of the plate if you need to. Then
remove it and apply glue to the areas where the
two pieces will be in contact.
4
Use a cylindrical object to slightly bend the plate
to match the curve of the wing.
3
Lightly hammer a nail into the four holes.

Build the Spitfire: Step-By-Step
Now identify plate 18 from Stage 85 on the
template.
Apply glue to the contact areas on the wing
(dotted lines) and place the plate into position.
Test-fit the plate on the wing. Shape to fit the
curve and adjust the size if it overlaps.
When dry, pierce a hole in each corner and
hammer a nail into them.
The wing should now look like this. Keep any
unused parts to one side.
