Section 1

Introduction

The CS 5500 rear-load lobby cash dispenser, intended for secure interior

locations, is an economical, walk-up system that dispenses cash and transaction

receipts. Supplies are replenished and service procedures are performed from

the back of the system. There are several styles of CS 5500 rear-load lobby

cash dispensers.

• Original version of the 5500 Figure 1-1

• Basic power architecture (original version but with a defeatured power

architecture)

• Full height top chassis for retail, vestibule and off premises deployments

1.1 Before Performing Maintenance Procedures on the Cash Dispenser

The operator should be familiar with the following information before performing

the maintenance procedures in this manual:

• The features and equipment on your cash dispenser

• The maintenance option your institution has selected for its cash dispenser(s)

Standard and Optional Equipment

The cash dispenser might not have all the features described in this manual.

Refer to the documents in Appendix A for information about speciﬁcequipment.

Maintenance Options

The institution can select one of several maintenance options. Determine

which option the institution has selected before servicing the cash dispenser.

The manager or supervisor assigned to the cash dispenser can provide this

information.

1.2 Maintenance Tasks

Maintenance keeps the cash dispenser operational on a day-to-day basis and

includes, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

• Retrieving jammed, retained or captured cards from the card reader.

• Replenishing printer paper, clearing paper jams and replacing printer

cartridges.

• Removing jammed cash from cash dispenser and cash acceptor modules.

1.3 Using this Manual

This manual provides the following information:

• A description of devices used in the cash dispenser (Section 2)

• Maintenance for the top chassis and safe (Section 3)

• Related documentation (Appendix A)

• Cleaning the exterior of the cash dispenser (Appendix B)

1.4 Observing Safety Precautions

General Safety Precautions

Strictly observe the following safety precautions when performing maintenance

on the cash dispenser. By following these precautions, you can reduce the risk of

equipment damage, severe personal injury, or death.

You must observe the following precautions when performing

maintenance on the cash dispenser to avoid risk of death,

severe personal injury, or equipment damage:

• Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that can become

caught in the equipment.

• Use caution to prevent long hair from getting caught in

the equipment.

• Never insert screwdrivers, pens, or other instruments

into any cash dispenser module or device (unless you are

expressly instructed to do so in this document). Severe

bodily injury, death from electrical shock, or equipment

damage can result.

• Always turn off the cash dispenser before removing or

installing modules.

WarningandCautionLabels

The cash dispenser might have any of the warning or caution labels shown

below. Strictly observe the following safety concerns to reduce the risk of severe

personal injury, or death.

Label Deﬁnition Safety Concern

Electrical shock

hazard

An electrical shock hazard exists in the area

of the label. Do not remove covers. Remove

power before servicing.

Warning or danger

A personal injury can occur. Look for nearby

warning label (electrical shock, pinch point,

moving machinery, high temperature hazard)

or refer to the module or ATM operating

guideforthespeciﬁc hazard.

Pinch point

An area that can pinch (or cut) you exists in

the area of this label. Keep your hands and

ﬁngers clear of pinch points.

Moving machinery

hazard

Moving parts that can snag or pull clothing,

hair, skin, or jewelry into the mechanism

are present in the area of this label. Keep

clothing, hair, skin, and jewelry out of the

mechanism.

High temperature

hazard

High temperatures that can cause pain or

burns are present in the area of this label.

Do not touch until cooled.

1.5 Radio Interference Label

This is a class A product. In a domestic environment this

product may cause radio interference, in which case the user

may be required to take adequate measures.

A warning label (Figure 1-3) is included on cash dispensers available in Taiwan

to meet Taiwan Class A regulatory requirements for radio frequency interference.

1.6 Terminology

This document uses the following terminology:

•Cash dispenser refers to the complete CS 5500 rear-load lobby cash

dispenser.

•Note(s) refers to documents of monetary value that are stored in the cassettes

and dispensed from the dispenser.

•Consumer refers to any person who uses the cash dispenser to conduct

transactions.

•Device refers to the electrical and mechanical components in the cash

dispenser.

•Dispenser refers to the module that takes media from the cassettes and

transports it through a slot in the fascia to the consumer.

•Fascia refers to the front of the cash dispenser, including the area where

the consumer conducts transactions.

•Institution refers to the bank or business that has purchased the cash

dispenser.

•Maintenance refers to the routine tasks performed by the operator to keep

the cash dispenser operational.

•Media is a generic term that refers to any type of document (such as a bank

note, ticket, coupon, etc.) that is stored in the cassettes and dispensed from

the dispenser.

•Module refers to the major electro-mechanical devices that are installed in

the cash dispenser, such as displays, printers, and dispensers.

•Operator refers to a person who performs routine maintenance tasks, such

as replenishing supplies. An operator might also resolve certain problems,

such as removing paper jams.

Section 2

Cash Dispenser Devices

This section describes the devices available in the cash dispenser. Refer to the

documents in Appendix A for more information about devices.

The cash dispenser might not have all the devices described in this section. Some

devices are optional or are mutually exclusive and cannot be used with other

devices.

2.1 Consumer Interface

The consumer selects transactions, speciﬁes amounts, receives dispensable media

and receipts, and requests information through the consumer interface.

2.1.1 Access Points

Labels next to many of the devices provide icons that show how to use the device

and lighted indicators guide the consumer through the transaction sequence. The

consumer interface could have the following features and access points.

Fascia Mirror

Convex mirrors at the top of the fascia help consumers monitor their surroundings

while they use the cash dispenser.

Camera Window

The fascia contains windows for an optional camera for the cash pocket and

an optional camera security system.

MotorizedCardReaderSlot

To use the motorized card reader, the consumer inserts an ATM card into the card

reader slot. The card reader automatically pulls the card into the cash dispenser

and returns the card when the transaction is completed.

Dip Card Reader

The dip card reader is a manually operated device mounted directly to the fascia.

The consumer inserts an ATM card in the card slot and then removes the card

to begin the transaction. The dip card reader can read magnetic stripe cards and

memory chip cards. The dip card reader cannot retract, capture, or retain cards.

Fingerprint Reader (optional)

The ﬁngerprint reader (blue light or enhanced biometric) is mounted on the

bezel of the enhanced encrypting PIN pad. The reader automatically scans the

ﬁngerprint when the consumer places his ﬁnger on the window. A red ﬂash

indicates that an image of the ﬁngerprint has been captured. The scanned data is

encrypted before it is sent via the USB device.

Contactless Card Reader

The contactless card reader is located on the consumer panel. The contactless

card reader is a small device that includes a compact controller module and an

RFID antenna module packaged individually. It is certiﬁed with most contactless

payment programs, enabling the system to support contactless transactions based

on ISO 14443 A/Type B/Mifare-compatible cards.

Consumer Keypad

During the transaction sequence the cash dispenser prompts the consumer to

enter information on the keypad, which uses an integrated security module and

encrypting PIN pad technology to secure the transaction information.

Function Keypads

The consumer can use the four function keys on each side of the consumer

display to make selections on the consumer display.

Speakers

Speakers in the top of the fascia alert consumers to transaction sequences.

Consumer Display

The consumer display is a monitor screen used by the consumer to perform

transactions.

Printer Slot

At the end of a transaction, the consumer receives a printed receipt through the

printer slot.

Dispenser Slot

Bank notes and other media are presented to the consumer through the dispenser

slot.

Green indicators (Figure 2-2) on the fascia blink to call attention to the next step

in the sequence. The indicators are located next to the following modules:

2.2.1 Devices Used by the Consumer

The following devices are used by the consumer:

• All-in-one module - the consumer display

• Motorized card reader or dip card reader or active edge card reader

• Graphical receipt printer

• 2D Barcode scanner (optional)

• Fingerprint reader (optional) (blue light or enhanced biometric)

• Contactless card reader (optional)

Motorized Card Reader

The motorized card reader (Figure 2-5) reads and writes magnetic stripe cards

and memory chip cards (smart or memory cards compliant with ISO 7816). The

card reader reads and writes tracks 1, 2, and 3 (or any combination of tracks 1,

2, and 3) on magnetic stripe cards. To minimize errors, the card is held in the

transport and the card reader can read tracks with errors again. A gate prevents

cards without chips or cards without track 2 from entering the card reader. The

gate also prevents the card being inserted incorrectly.

The card reader has an anti-skimming sensor to identify fraudulent card reader

devices. CIM86 is an available option with the reader.

The card reader has either an open bin or a locked bin to hold retained cards, both

bins hold cards that are not returned to consumers. A card may be retained for

the following reasons:

• The network commands the cash dispenser to retain the card.

• The card cannot physically be returned.

• The consumer fails to take the card within the time allowed after the

transaction session ended.

• A power failure occurs while the card is in the card reader, and the option

to return the card on power failure is not present.

Dip Card Reader

The dip card reader (Figure 2-6) is a manually operated device mounted on the

fascia. The consumer inserts an ATM card in the card slot and then removes

the card to begin the transaction. The dip card reader can read magnetic stripe

cards and memory chip cards. The dip card reader cannot retract, capture, or

retain cards.

Active Edge Card Reader (optional)

An optional active edge card reader is available. The card is inserted long edge

ﬁrst in this reader. Jitter and Advanced Skimming Detection/Prevention is

required.
