Kit 401680
A Merv-7 filter is required to ensure proper efficacy of the air purification device over the course
of the product life. Please contact your Thermo King representative to identify the applicable
part number for your application.
Tools Required:
3/8” and 7/16” sockets, 3” extension and ratchet
7/16” open ended wrench
Laptop with CANDiag kit (Flash load firmware version 4.02.06 or later into both main modules is required.)
Installation Overview
It is recommended the entire installation instructions be reviewed prior to beginning the
installation.
NNoottee:: A short video showing the installation process can also be found hheerree.
AAPPSS IInnssttaallllaattiioonn – APS assembly installs directly onto the TK HVAC evaporator using the
existing hardware.
UUnniitt MMooddiiffiiccaattiioonnss – The two existing air filter clips will be removed from the front of the
evaporator and not reused. The return air temperature sensor will be relocated to the APS
frame. The existing sensor mounting bracket may need be bent slightly to allow for APS
harness clearance.
EElleeccttrriiccaall CCoonnnneeccttiioonnss – APS interface harness connects to the IntelligAIRE III controllers and
to a bus battery positive (+24VDC) and chassis ground (-) source.
SSyysstteemm PPrrooggrraammmmiinngg – The IntelligAIRE III controllers will need to be programmed to operate
the system.

Installation Procedures
Step 1 – Bus HVAC Component Removal
IImmppoorrttaanntt:: Disconnect power to the bus HVAC unit before proceeding.
1. Access evaporator via bus interior return air inlet grille. Remove filter from coil face (if
applicable).
2. Remove and discard the (2) filter clips.
NNoottee:: Carefully drill out only the rivet heads securing the filter clips. Drilling through the rivet
hole could damage the evaporator coil.
RCS2066
3. Remove and retain only the (10) 1/4”–20 hardware shown.
RCS2067
Continue to Step 2 – APS Installation

Step 2 – APS Installation
1. Remove (2) 1/4”-20 hardware securing control panel to APS frame. Place APS assembly onto
front of evaporator coil with harnesses facing up and control board facing out.
a. Align APS mounting holes with those on coil.
b. Reinstall (10) 1/4”–20 hardware and tighten to 6 ft-lbs (8.2 Nm).
c. Reinstall (2) 1/4”–20 hardware to secure control panel to APS frame. Tighten to 6 ft-lbs (8.2
Nm)
RCS2068
NNoottee:: If the APS frame is not aligning with unit mounting holes, loosen the corner bolts of
the frame, align hardware, and retorque all hardware that was removed or loosened.

Step 3 – APS Electrical Connections
1. RReellooccaattee SSeennssoorr::
a. Remove sensor from bracket and insert it into grommet on APS bracket as shown.
RCS2071
NNoottee:: Early versions of the air temperature sensor bracket may need to be bent slightly if it
interferes with APS harness. A later version with adequate spacing is shown below.

Step 4 – Setup Procedures
NNoottee:: See the IntelligAIRE III Diagnostic Manual TTKK 5544665500 for detailed information on flash
loading and connecting using the CANDiag software.
1. Reconnect power to the bus HVAC.
2. Connect to TE18 diagnostic plug and open up CANDiag version 1.13.5 or higher.
3. Confirm unit has firmware version 4.02.06 or higher
4. Open Main Module ID 0
5. Navigate to the Setup Parameter tab. Read Data.
Check ‘APS Fail Indicator’
This is an optional selection:
If box is selected: the AC Fail Indicator lamp on the control panel will illuminate when
alarm code 084 is detected. This is the default setting.
If box IS NOT selected: The AC Fail Indicator lamp on the control panel will not
illuminate when alarm code 084 is detected.

APS System Operation
When the bus is started and the RUN signal becomes active, the air purification panels will
energize and the IntelligAIRE II or III controller (depending on unit) will wake up.
Figure 1. APS panels shown energized.
RCS1800
The evaporator blowers will start automatically and operate in low speed unless being
commanded to a higher speed by the HVAC.
The air purification panels may be temporarily disabled (for example during service procedures,
flash loading, etc.) by using the service ON / OFF switch in the return air section.
Figure 2. APS Service Switch shown.
RCS1801
IImmppoorrttaanntt:: The screen mesh of the air purification system must only be cleaned with a low
power vacuum equipped with a soft bristle dust brush attachment. Do not use liquids,
chemicals, cleaners, cleaning agents, compressed air, water, or a high power vacuum
to clean the mesh or damage may occur.

APS Diagnostics Procedures
NNoottee:: Your screen may be slightly different but the information displayed will be the same.
The IntelligAIRE III controller monitors voltage and current to determine total power drawn
by the air purification system.
If the air purification system power drops more than the threshold amount below the
expected power, an alarm code 084 is generated.
This alarm code is also broadcast through the DM1 messaging on the vehicle J1939 network
and will light the AC Fail indicator at the driver panel if the AC Fail option is selected.
