SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step ™

Apply glue to the areas of the ribs that

are indicated in the photo.

Hold one of the gun port strips flush

with Rib 6 and curve it around Ribs 5-1.

If you have difficulty bending it, soak it

in water to make it more pliable.

Nail the strip to the ribs, starting from

Rib 6 and moving forward to Rib 1.

To use the pin pusher, first load it with

a nail, making sure that you insert it

head first. Then place the point against

the part you want to nail in place and

push the nail forward until it stops.

To ensure that the nails won’t come

free, use a small hammer to drive them

further in.

This photo details the join between

the two gun port strips. Make sure that

these parts fit flush together before

fixing the second strip in place.

Take the second gun port strip and test-

fit it in place astern of the first, from

Rib 6 to Rib 11.

Nail the second gun port strip to

the ribs.

Glue the mount to the inside of the gun

port strip, blocking the hole between

Ribs 1 and 2, indicated by the arrow on

the far right in the photograph. Then

repeat this process for the next four gun

ports, shown by the other four arrows.

Remove the dummy gun mounts from

the sheet and smooth with fine-grit

sandpaper. Then apply glue to one

side of one of the mounts, just inside of

the edge.

should look at this stage. Keep any left-

over material, as it will be used later.

Remove the two gun port strips from

the sheet, and use sandpaper to smooth

them and remove any splinters. Apply

glue to the areas of contact, shown by

the dotted red lines.

Place the strip against the ribs, above

the step.

For Ribs 1, 2 and 3, you may want to

wet the strip to prevent it from splitting.

Nail the strip to the hull. Begin at Rib 6

and continue towards the bow.

Nail the strip to Ribs 1-3.

Nail the second strip in place, from Rib

6 to the stern.

Place the second strip aft of the first

one to test-fit. Then apply glue to the

areas of contact, above the step.

Glue the second set of gun port strips

onto the other side of the hull. Glue

two gun mounts behind the two gun

ports at the aft end of the second strip

(arrowed).

Cut away any area of the strips that

overlap Rib 1.

Fix all the other mounts on the insides

of the strips (arrowed).

should look at this stage. Keep any left-

over material, as it will be used later.

Tap all the nails fully into the strip with

a hammer.

Starting at Rib 6, nail the strip into

place, stopping at Rib 4.

Be careful not to force the strip at Ribs

1-3 because it might snap. You may

want to wet the strip before securing it

to these ribs.

Now place the strip in position.

Test-fit the second strip aft of the first,

then apply glue to the sides of the ribs.

Nail the strip to Rib 6, as shown in the

photograph.

Glue dummy gun mounts over the

holes of the upper row of strips on the

port side. Then glue the remaining

mounts to the lower strips of the

starboard side, starting from the bow.

Continue to nail the strip in place, up

to Rib 11.

When nailing the strip to Ribs 1-3, you

may want to wet that part of it to make

it more pliable and less likely to snap.

Nail the strip in place, from Rib 6 to

Rib 4.

Test-fit the second strip. Then apply

glue to the sides of Ribs 6-11.

Nail the strip in place from Ribs 6-11.

Fit the second strip in place, engaging

the shaped ends.

Glue six dummy gun mounts to the

insides of the strips along the starboard

side, as shown.

If the strips go beyond Rib 1, then

remove the excess by cutting away or

filing until the strips are flush with

the rib.

Use the remaining mounts to cover

the nine gun ports (arrowed) on the

port side.

over material, as it will be used later.

Remove and prepare the gun port strips

and mounts, as with previous pieces.

Then glue two mounts to the third and

fourth gun ports of the straight end of

the longer strip, as shown.

Test-fit, glue and nail the strip into

place. As with previous strips, first

secure it at Rib 6 then work forward,

taking care when securing it at the bow.

Cover the first two gun ports of the

lower strip on the starboard side.

The strip must be perfectly flush with

the curvature of Rib 1. Use a hammer

to ensure the nails are inserted fully.

Fix four mounts to the inside of the

upper strip aft of the two fitted in Step

While holding the strip in place, trace

the width of Ribs 7 and 8 onto the

outside of it.

Test-fit the second strip in place,

engaging the shaped ends of the

two strips.

Glue mounts over the gun port holes,

either side of the lines marked in the

previous step.

If the strip no longer fits properly, you

may need to remove some sections of

the mounts, as shown.

Once you have glued all the mounts in

place, test-fit the strip again.

The photo shows how the assembly
