FläktGroup EURA Rotary heat exchanger Installation guide

FläktGroup EURA Rotary heat exchanger is a device used for recovering and transferring heat or cooling energy and possibly moisture from the extract air to the supply air. It is particularly well suited for air handling systems in which high temperature and moisture efficiencies are required.

The heat recovery unit is equipped with a purging sector which prevents carry-over of extract air to the supply air side as the rotor rotates. Carry-over at the rotor seals can be prevented by creating a slight positive pressure differential between the supply air and extract air sides.

The temperature efficiency for TUBOTERM is 5,5 % higher than for REGOTERM.

The heat recovery is equipped with a purging sector; which
prevents carry-over of extract air to the supply air side as
the rotor rotates.
Carry-over at the rotor seals can be prevented by creating a
slight positive pressure differential between the supply air
and extract air sides (p2>p3).
This pressure differential, which should be slight in order
to minimize leakage air flow rate, can be achieved by arran-
ging the fans as shown in the figure below and, if necessary,
by installing a pressure-adjusting damper in the extract air
duct.
Normal values of leakage air flow are at the seals 1–4 % of
the total air flow rate.

In normal comfort ventilation, the need for defrosting nor-
mally arises at an outdoor temperature of approximately
–15 °C if the unit has a non-hygroscopic rotor, and at
approximately –25 °C if it has a hygroscopic rotor.
If the extract air relative humidity is more than 40% and if
the supply air temperature is below –8 °C get in touch
with Fläkt Woods technical support.
Control
Variable speed
The efficiency of the heat recovery unit, and thus the supp-
ly air temperature downstream of the rotor, are controlled
by varying the rotor speed.
The control equipment consists of: Speed controller and a
control unit, by means of which the rotor speed can be
varied between 0 and 15 r/min. The speed controller is fac-
tory fitted and ready-wired as standard.

Design
The rotor consists of alternate flat and corrugated strips of
aluminium foil, which form a large number of axial passa-
ges, through which the air flows in a laminar pattern. As a
result, the pressure drop across the rotor is very low.
The centre of the rotor consists of a hub with shaft and
bearings.
The rotor is bolted to two centre beams in such a manner
that it can be dismantled at the mountings and be removed
on the centre beams for maintenance and cleaning.
An effective seal is provided in the gap between the rotor
and casing to minimize the leakage between the outdoor
air and extract air.
The drive unit consists of a constant-speed or variable-
speed electric motor. The rotor is driven by a belt drive.
All four connection openings of the heat exchanger must
be accessible for connection to other unit blocks.
Both upper openings of the rotary heat exchanger must be
accessible for rotor service, etc.
For transport reasons, sizes 50 – 84 are delivered in two
halves for assembly on site.
Installation: For horizontal air flow only.
