Recover the leading edges and trailing edge
provided with Stages 54 and 55. Take the trailing
edge and place it against the left wing wingtip,
between the two dotted lines, to test-fit.
Look at the following steps to see the correct
position of the trailing edge. Apply glue along the
edge of the wingtip (dotted line).

Now take edge 5 and glue it to the front of the
wingtip, up against the trailing edge (dotted line)
and the last rib of the wing.

from the previous stage. The template is used
to identify the different plates and to mark the
details on them.
Place the plate onto the template in the position
shown. Use a pen to transfer the dotted line from

Retrieve the rivet marker that came with Stage 4.
Place the wing plate on some card, align a ruler
with the line marked in the previous step and roll
the marker along the line applying light pressure.

Place a ruler up against the two marks made in
Steps 2 and 3, and join them together.

Now position the plate at the other side of the
template and transfer the line onto this end.

Turn over to view the plate from the front side.
If the process in the previous step was done
correctly, there should be small bumps along the
line on the plate, simulating rivets.

Turn the plate over so the back side is facing up
and scratch the surface with sandpaper. This will
improve adhesion to the wing.
Repeat the previous step for the rest of the
leading edges of the left wing.
Run a sponge along the surface of the first leading
edge of the left wing. This should not only polish
it, but also smooth out any scratches.
All the plates supplied are going to be used to
cover the plane. You will be shown at a later stage
how to secure them to the wings and fuselage.
You can practice making holes using the plate
from Stage 1 and the awl from Stage 55.
The left wing should now look like this. Store any

You will now combine the two wing halves. Place
the wider ends of the wings together, as shown.
Sand the end of both wings to remove any
excess glue or unevenness from the first ribs, and
improve the gluing surface.

Place the left wing flat, and place the right wing up against it,
joining the ends of them. Raise the end of the right wing until
the angles of the first ribs match.

Cut the tube in line with the edge of the last rib of
the right wing.
This photo highlights the angle of the wing.
Once the glue has dried, remove the clamps from
the wing and check that they are properly secured
together. Remove any excess glue from around
the ribs.
Now cut away the ends of the tubes, in line with
the second (angled) rib of each wing half.
The wings should now look like this. Keep any
unused parts to one side.

Place upper wing plate 3 from Stage 56 onto the
corresponding shape on the template. Then slide
towards the edge and mark the ends of the dotted
lines onto the surface of the plate.
Perform the same process at the other end of the
plate. Hold a ruler up against the lines and draw
along it to connect them.

Plate 3 will fit onto the top of the wing at the point
shown. Test-fit the plate in place, ensuring that it
fits flush with the curvature of the wing.

Turn the plate over to check the rivets. Before
proceeding, make sure the plate is flat. Then,
roughen the back side with sandpaper.

Place the wing plate on some card, align a ruler
with the line marked in the previous step and roll
the marker along the line, applying light pressure.

To help you shape the plate to fit the wing, bend
it over something like a spray can. Test-fit against
the wing again and bend it more if necessary.

Apply a quick-setting glue along the ribs and
leading edge (dotted lines) of the wing.
When the glue has dried, use the awl
received with Stage 55 to lightly pierce
five holes in the plate (arrows).
The leading edges have a small ledge which
the plates sit on. Place the plate up against the
leading edge first, working towards the back of
the wing, pressing the plate down onto the ribs as
you go.

Insert a nail (from Stage 57) into each of the holes made in
the previous step and gently hammer it in.
