airbubblesandremoveanyairbubblesbyshak-
ingtheelectrodeslightlyinaverticaldirection.
4. Placetheelectrodeintothehousingasdescribed
intheinstructionsforthehousing.
5. ConnecttheelectrodeandthepHtransmitterwith
thecorrespondingcable(AK9forInPro3030).Ob-
servetheconnectionsschemethataccompanies
thecableorthetransmitter.
5 Operation
5.1 Calibration of the electrode and pH transmitter
FortheInPro3030electrodea2-pointpH-calibration
isrecommended.Beforecalibration,rstremovethe
wateringcap.Tospeeduptheresponsetimeofthe
electrode after long transport and storage periods,
andbeforecalibration,diptheelectrodeintobufferpH
7,bufferpH4andbufferpH7again,eachtimefor
aboutoneminute.Theelectrodeisthendippedsuc-
cessivelyintotwodifferentbuffersolutionswithgiven
pHreferencevaluesandthetransmittercalibratedto
thesebuffervalues.NormallyyoustartwithbufferpH
7fordeterminingthe0-pointandthenbufferpH4or
9fordeterminingtheslope.Inthecaseofmicropro-
cessor-basedtransmitterswithbufferrecognition,the
orderofthetwochosenbuffersolutionsisirrelevant.
Wheneverpossible,atemperaturesensorshouldbe
connectedtothetransmitterand«automatictempera-
turemeasurement»selectedthere.

5.2 Sterilization of the electrode
The InPro 3030 electrode can be sterilized either
through autoclaving or through in-situ sterilization
with steam or superheated fermentation medium.
Sterilization temperatures above 140 °C are not al-
lowed,andexcessivesterilizationtime(forinstance
t>30min at 140°C) could notably shorten the life
time ofthe electrode.Repeated sterilization and/or
autoclavingoftheelectrodecanleadtoaslightcol-
orationoftheelectrolyte.Thiscolorchangedoesnot
effectthefunctioningoftheelectrode.
6 Maintenance
1. Carefullyrinsetheelectrodetipanddiaphragmwith
de-ionizedwateraftereachproductioncycle.Under
no circumstances must measuring solution be al-
lowedtodryontheseparts!
2. Whentheelectrodeisnotinoperation,storeitwith
electrodetipanddiaphragmwellsubmergedinto
9823/3MKClor9816/Viscolyt™electrolyte.
