4 Installationandcommissioning
1. Onunpacking,checkthesensorforpossiblemechani-
caldamageofthepHsensitiveglass,thediaphragm(s),
thebodyandtheconnector.Reportanydamageimme
-
diatelytoyourMETTLERTOLEDOsupplier.
2. Remove the watering cap and rinse the sensor with
deionizedwater.Afterrinsing,thesensorshouldonly
bedabbeddrywithatissue.DonotrubthepHsensitive
glass,sincethiscanleadtoelectrostaticchargingand
sluggishresponsetimes.
3. CarefullycheckthespacebehindthepHsensitiveglass
forthepresenceofanyairbubblesandremovesame
bygentlyswingingthesensorinaverticalplane.
4. Remove completely from the electrode,the T-shaped
rubberstopperintheelectrolyterellopeningandits
elasticsecuringbandbeforeinsertingtheelectrodeinto
thehousing.Alsoremovepossibleelectrolyterestsin
thellingport.
5. Please refer to the instruction manual of the relative
housinginordertoinstallthesensorcorrectly.
6. ConnectthesensortothepHtransmitter,usingacorre
-
spondingcable.Pleaserefertothewiringandterminal
diagramaccompanyingthecable.
7. ForelectrodeswithPt100temperaturesensors,3-wire
techniqueisrecommendedinordertoobtainbestmea
-
surementaccuracy.Pleaserefertothecableandtrans-
mitterinstructionmanualsforthecorrespondingcable
wireconnections.

5 Operation
5.1CalibrationofthesensorandpHtransmitter
ForInPro2000(i)sensors,a2-pointcalibrationisrecom
-
mended.Thecalibrationcanbemadewiththesensoreither
readyformountingoralreadymountedwithinthehousing.
Afterremovingthewateringcap,thesensorisdippedin
successionintotwodifferentbuffersolutionswithgivenpH
referencevaluesandthetransmitteriscalibratedtothese
buffer values.
5.2Sterilizationofsensor
Inthecaseofsterileprocesses,suchasinfermentationap
-
plications,thesensorsaresterilizedpriortotheproduction
cycle.Sterilizationisnormallyeffectedbymeansofsteam
orsuperheatedprocessmediumwiththesensoralready
mountedinthereactorinsideitshousing.
5.3 Housing pressurizing
During possible sensor sterilization and during normal
operation,itisimportantthatthehousingandelectrolyte
pressureisadjustedtobehigherthantheeffectivepressure
inthereactorvessel.Thismeasureisnecessaryinorder
toavoidmediumintrusionintotheelectrolyte.Theoptimal
pressuredifferencevaluetokeepthediaphragmcleanand
obtainacceptableelectrolyterellintervalshastobeestab
-
lishedempiricallyfromcasetocase.
