4.1 Connection
Theinteriorbody(pHelectrode)isreadyforcalibration.
–Onunpacking,checkthepHelectrodeformechanicalda-
mage.ReportanydamageimmediatelytoyourMETTLER
TOLEDOsupplier.
–Removethewateringcap,capsleeve,membranebody
andbrieyrinsethesensorwithde-ionizedwater.
–Afterrinsing,thesensorshouldonlybedabbeddrywitha
tissue.DonotrubthepH-sensitiveglassasthiscanlead
toelectrostaticchargingandsluggishresponsetimes.
–CheckinsidethepH-sensitiveglassforthepresenceof
any air bubbles and remove same by gently swinging
theelectrodeinaverticalplane(shakingdownaswitha
thermometer).
–CalibratethepHsensorasdescribedinSection5.
–Placetheelectrodeintothehousingasdescribedinthe
instructionsforthehousing.

sibleduetotheinternalpHelectrode.Anangleof15°or
greatertohorizontalisneeded.
–Connect the electrode and the pH transmitter with the
correspondingcable(AK9fortheInPro5000(i),VPfor
the InPro 5000). Observe the connection scheme that
accompaniesthecableorthetransmitter.

5 Operation
5.1 Calibration of the pH sensor
(NotneededforInPro5000i)

For the analog CO

sensor InPro 5000,we recommend
a2-pointcalibrationinpHbuffers7.00and9.21.Before
calibration,rstremovewettingcap.StartwithbufferpH
7.00fordeterminingzeropointandthenbufferpH9.21for
determiningtheslope.Pleaserefertoinstructionmanualof
thetransmitterforfurtherdetails.

resultinhighsensordriftintheprocess.
5.2 Mounting the membrane body
–AftercalibrationofthepHelectroderinsethepHelectrode
withde-ionizedwaterandcarefullydabitwithapaper
tissue.
–FillthenewmembranebodyhalfwaywithCO
2
electroly te.
–Makesurethatallairbubblesareremovedfromthemem-
brane body. Air bubbles can be removed by carefully
tappingonthemembranebody.
–Slip the membrane body over the pH electrode while
holding the sensor in a vertical position. The excess
electrolytethatwillbedisplacedshouldberemovedwith
apapertissue.

Notice: No electrolyte, sample media or contamination
shouldbepresentbetweenthemembranebodyandthe
capsleeve.Pleasecheckcarefully.
–Carefully slip the cap sleeve over the tted membrane
body,holdingthesensorinaverticalposition,andscrew
ittight.Thecapsleevemustbecleanandtight.
5.3 Calibration of the CO
2
sensor
TheInPro5000isinsitusterilizableorinanautoclave.After
sterilizationaprocesscalibrationstepisneededtoachieve
accuratemeasurements.
The process calibration can be performed by using the
transmitter’s calibration menu. For further details please
refertothemainmanual.
6 Maintenance
Werecommendusinganewmembranebodyaftereach
batch.AftereachcalibrationofthepHelectrodenewCO
2
electrolyteshouldbelledinthemembranebody.
IfthepHelectrodeshowsasluggishresponsetimeand/or
insufcientsensitivity,thepH-sensitiveglasscanbereac-
tivatedusinganHFsolution(p/n51319053).Forfurther
detailspleaserefertothemainmanual.
Typically,after10–20sterilizationcyclesthepHelectrode
shouldbereplaced.Pleaserefertotheinstructionmanual
ofthereplacementinteriorbodyInPro5000(i).
7 Disposal
Itistheuser’sresponsibilitytodisposeofthespentspare
partsandifnecessarythesensorinaprofessionalmanner.
Sensorscontainelectroniccomponentsthatrequirespecial
disposalwithoutanyhazardforhumans,andwithnorisk
ofharmtotheenvironment.Pleaseobservetheapplicable
localor national regulationsconcerning the disposal of
"wasteelectricalandelectronicequipment".
8 Warranty
Warrantedfreeofmanufacturingdefectsforatermof12
monthsafterdelivery.
9 Storage condition
Forstoragewerecommendllingthemembranebodywith
freshCO
2
electrolyteandreconnectingittothesensor.The
wetting cap, lled with CO
2
-electrolyte, will prevent dry-
ing-outofthemembrane.
