1 Introduction
METTLERTOLEDOpHsensorstypeInPro
®
3200arelow-
maintenanceelectrodeswithpressurizedgel-electrolyte,
silver-ion trap and built-in temperature sensor.
The InPro 3200 sensors are suitable for the same
applications as the corresponding DPA(S) sensors
without RTD, and provide an additional temperature
signalforautomatictemperaturecompensationofthe
pH signal during calibration and operation.
InPro 3200 sensors are autoclavable and in-situ
sterilizable.
2 Safety instructions
Thesensorconsistsp ar t lyofglassan dsho uldbehandle d
carefully.Ifthesensoristobecleanedorcalibratedusing
acid or alkaline solutions, safety goggles and gloves
shouldbeworn.Localsafetyregulationsareapplicable
tothehandlingofthesensor.Pleasefollowtheguidelines
enclosedforaninstallationintheExzone.Pleasetake
extra care during installation/tting of the sensor to
ensurethatneitherthepolymerbody/shaftofthesensor
northethread(Pg13.5)sufferanyinjuryordamage.
We recommend that you only operate the electrode
in combination with original parts from METTLER
TOLEDO.Operationandmaintenanceshouldbecarried
outonlybytrainedpersonnelandstaffwhohaveread
andunderstoodtheoperatinginstructions.

4 Installation and commissioning
1. On unpacking, check the sensor for possible
mechanical damage of the pH sensitive glass,
the diaphragm, the shaft and the VarioPin (VP)
connector.Reportanydamageimmediatelytoyour
METTLERTOLEDOsupplier.
2. Remove the watering cap and briey rinse the
sensor with deionized water. Carefully remove the
protectiondropletofsiliconeonthediaphragmwith
theenclosedknife,asshownonthegreenpictures
onthepacking.
3. Againrinsethesensorwellwithdeionizedwater.After
rinsing,thesensorshouldonlybedabbeddrywith
atissue.Donotrub the pH sensitiveglass,since
thiscanleadtoelectrostaticchargingandsluggish
response times.
4. Carefullycheckthespace behind thepHsensitive
glassforthepresenceofanyairbubblesandremove
same by gently swinging the sensor in a vertical
plane.
5. Pleaserefertotheinstructionmanualoftherelative
housinginordertoinstallthesensorcorrectly.
6. Connect the sensor to the pHtransmitter, usinga
cablewithVarioPin(VP)connector.Pleasereferto
thewiringandterminaldiagramaccompanyingthe
cable.
7. For electrodes with Pt100 temperature sensors,
3-wiretechniqueisrecommendedinordertoobtain
best measurement accuracy. Please refer to the
cable and transmitter instruction manuals for the
correspondingcablewireconnections.
8.ForInPro3200SGelectrodes,withanadditionalPt
ringforsolutionground,connectthecorresponding
blue wire in the VP-cable to your transmitter in
accordance with instructions in the connection
diagramm of VP-cable and/or in the transmitter
instruction manual. For ORP measurement (sep.
transmitter needed) connect solution ground with
ORP input.
5 Operation
5.1 Calibration of the sensor and pH transmitter
For InPro 3200 sensors, a 2-point calibration is
recommended. After removing the watering cap,
the sensor is dipped in succession into two different
buffersolutionswithgivenpHreferencevaluesandthe
transmitteriscalibratedtothesebuffervalues.
5.2 Sterilization of sensor
Inthecaseofsterileprocesses,such as infermenta-
tionapplications,thesensorsaresterilizedpriortothe
productioncycle.Autoclavingofthewholefermenter/re-
actorunit including pH electrode is possible with this
sensor type. Sterilization can also be effected in-situ
bymeansofsteamorsuperheatedprocessmediumin
contactwiththelowersensorparts.

5.3 Temperature sensor
The integrated Pt100/1000 temperature sensor
is primarily intended for automatic temperature
compensationofthepHsignalduringcalibration and
normal operation, and notfortheaccurateindicationor
controloftheprocesstemperature.
6 Maintenance
1. Carefully rinse the sensor tip and diaphragm with
deionizedwateraftereachproductioncycle.Under
no circumstances must measuring solution be
allowedtodryontheseparts!
2. When the sensor is not in operation, store itwith
sensor tip and diaphragm well submerged into
9823/3MKClor9816/Viscolyt™electrolyte.
3. Ifthesensorisstoredmountedinitshousing,the
sameruleasin2)aboveapplies,butthestorage
electrolytehastobeslightlymodied,with2partsof
buffersolutionpH9.2to10partsofelectrolyte,this
inordertoavoidcorrosionofhousingparts.
4. Ifasensorisstoreddryforafewdaysbymistake,let
itsoakinthenormalstorageelectrolyteforseveral
hoursbeforeuse.
5. Occasionallychecktheconnectorforpossibletraces
ofmoisture.Ifnecessary,cleanwellwithdeionized
wateroralcohol,andafterwardsdrycarefully.
7 Trouble-shooting
At sluggish response time (e.g.after alonganddry
storage period), reactivation of the pH sensitiveglass
maybenecessary.DipthepHsensitiveglass(butno
furthersensorparts!)intoReconditioning(HF)Solution
(articleno.51319001)for5min.Afterwards,rinsewell
withdeionizedwaterandletsensortipanddiaphragm
soakinreferenceelectrolyteforminimum12hours.
Rapidly increased resistance of reference electrode
and/or drift could be signs of protein precipitation. Use
CleaningSolutionPepsin/HCl(articleno.51340068)
toremovesuchprecipitation.Atrepeatedproblemsof
thistype,considerswitchingtosensorswithFriscolyt™
basedgelelectrolyte.
8 Disposal
If no relative ofcial regulations are in force, used or
defectiveInPro3200sensorsandthepackagingcanbe
disposedofasordinaryhouseholdwaste.
9 Guarantee
Onmanufacturingdefects,12monthsafterdelivery.
