EIKE direct expansion evaporators
Sabroe shell and tube direct expansion water and brine chillers type EIKE are generally suitable
for use with the traditional CFC, HCFC and HFC refrigerants. For use with zeotropic refrigerant
blends such as R407C caution must be exercised when deciding upon operational parameters due
to the effect of the temperature glide.
The large EIKE chillers are produced with fixed tube sheets and the small units with a single tube
sheet and a U-tube bundle. They are made of low alloy carbon steel with copper tubes.
Due to the micro-fin structure of the copper tubes EIKE chillers offer a high heat transfer rate,
small temperature approaches and a compact design. The combination of dry evaporation inside
the tubes and the high specific heat transfer rates leads to a very low refrigerant charge.
The special designed distribution system at the refrigerant inlet ensures a low superheating of the
suction gas with a resulting high COP-value at all loads even with only a single expansion valve.
EIKE chillers are designed to meet the requirements of the European Pressure Equipment Direc-
tive (PED) and many classification societies. Design pressure on the shell side (Brine side) is 21
barg and 10 barg on the tube side. Design temperatures are 50°C/-40°C on both sides.
By using the windows computer program COMP1 it is easy to find the most appropriate EIKE for
the given conditions.
