NOTE: Refer to your local Arctic Cat ROV dealer
or the appropriate ROV Service Manual for more
detailed instructions.
NOTE: These instructions are divided into three
sections. (A) Prowler HDX with power steering
(page 1), (B) Prowler XT and XTX with power steer-
ing (page 2) and all (C) non-power steering Prowler
XT and XTX models (page 4).
(A) Prowler HDX Installation
1. Remove seat, seat base and center floor section.
2. Loosen all screws securing the dash; then move
the dash to gain access to all screws securing the
front storage box. Remove the storage box.
3. Secure Mounting Bracket (p/n 0513-041) to the
steering rack frame using two Cap Screws (M8
x 1.25 x 16). Tighten to 20 ft-lb. See Fig. 1.

4. Secure the top of the oil cooler to the back side
of the frame and secured using Self-Tapping
Screw; then secure the lower tabs to the back
side of the mounting bracket using two Cap
Screws (M10 x 1.25 x 20) and two Flange Lock
Nuts. Tighten to 20 ft-lb. See Fig. 2.

5. Secure Right-Side Oil Cooler onto the passenger
side oil cooler fitting with a Clamp. Tighten to
20 in.-lb.
6. Secure Left-Side Oil Cooler Hose onto the oper-
ator side oil cooler fitting with a clamp. Tighten
to 20 in.-lb. See Fig. 3.

NOTE: The end of the hose should be inserted
onto the fitting past the barb to the bead but not
over the bead. Mark this hose on the opposite end
for installation purposes.
7. Route the oil hoses along the passenger side of
the frame tubes back to the engine.
8. Position the oil cooler hoses toward the oil filter.
9. Remove and discard the existing oil filter.
10. Remove the existing union that secures the oil
filter to the engine using a vise grip. Discard the
union.
11. Place the O-Ring into the groove on the bottom
of the Tower.
NOTE: The word “UP” is embossed on the face of
the tower.
12. Place the tower onto the engine with the O-ring
contacting the engine case.
13. Thread new Union into the center of the tower
and into the case making sure the tower hose fit-
tings are positioned parallel with the clutch cover
belt cooling duct. Tighten to 18 ft-lb. See Fig. 4.

14. Thread new Oil Filter onto the stand and prop-
erly tighten.
15. Place the left-side oil cooler hose onto the left-
side tower fitting (as viewed from the rear of the
vehicle). Be sure to push the hose completely
onto the fitting: then secure with a clamp and
tighten to 20 in.-lb.
16. Place the remaining oil cooler hose onto the
opposite cooler fitting and secure with clamp as
described above.
17. Secure both oil cooler hoses to the frame tubes
using cable ties as needed. See Fig. 5.

18. Fill the engine will the appropriate amount of oil;
then start the engine and allow it to reach its nor-
mal operating temperature and check for any
possible oil leakage.
19. Check the oil level and add oil as necessary to
the proper level.
(B) Prowler XT and XTX with Power
Steering
1. Remove seats, console, and floor.
2. Loosen all screws securing the dash; then move
the dash to gain access to all screws securing the
front storage box. Remove the storage box.
3. Secure Mounting Bracket (p/n 0513-040) to the
steering rack frame using two Cap Screws (M8 x
1.25 x 16). Tighten to 20 ft-lb. See Fig. 6.

4. Place U-Nut Clip over the tab located on the top
of the oil cooler making sure the clip is posi-
tioned with the threaded section facing the rear
of the vehicle.
5. Position Oil Cooler making sure the oil cooler
tab is positioned on the back side of the mount-
ing tab and that the oil cooler fittings are facing
toward the rear of the vehicle; then using
Machine Screw, secure the upper tab of the oil
cooler to the crossover support bracket. Loosely
secure at this time. See Fig. 7.

6. From the front of the vehicle, insert the two Cap
Screws (M10 x 1.25 x 20) (E) through the two
lower oil cooler tabs (positioned in front of the
mounting tabs) and through the newly installed
brackets on the rack and pinion. Loosely secure
with Flange Lock Nuts. See Fig. 8.

7. Tighten the upper machine screw to 48 in.-lb and
the lower cap screws to 20 ft-lb.
8. Secure Right-Side Oil Cooler onto the passenger
side oil cooler fitting with a Clamp. Tighten to
20 in.-lb.
9. Secure Left-Side Oil Cooler Hose onto the oper-
ator side oil cooler fitting with a clamp. Tighten
to 20 in.-lb. See Fig. 9.

17. Thread new Oil Filter onto the stand and prop-

18. Place the left-side oil cooler hose onto the left-
side tower fitting (as viewed from the rear of the
vehicle). Be sure to push the hose completely
onto the fitting: then secure with a clamp and
tighten to 20 in.-lb.
19. Place the remaining oil cooler hose onto the
opposite cooler fitting and secure with clamp as
described above.
20. Secure both oil cooler hoses to the frame tubes
using cable ties as needed. See Fig. 11.

21. Fill the engine will the appropriate amount of oil;
then start the engine and allow it to reach its nor-

22. Check the oil level and add oil as necessary to
the proper level.
(C) All Prowler XT, XTX Models
Without Power Steering
1. Remove seats, console, and floor.
2. Loosen all screws securing the dash; then move
the dash to gain access to all screws securing the
front storage box. Remove the storage box.
3. Remove one of the two cap screws and nuts
securing the rack and pinion mounting tab to the
frame: then loosen, but do not remove the
remaining cap screw securing the rack and pin-
ion to the frame.
4. Slide Mounting Brackets (p/n 0513-023) (A)
under the bushing located at the rack and pinion
mounting tab where the cap screw and nut were
removed in step 3. See Fig. 12.

NOTE: Position the bracket so the single hole is
under the rack and pinion bushing and the tab on
the bracket is on the left side of the rack and pinion
mounting tab.
5. Install the cap screw and nut (removed in step 3)
into the rack and pinion mounting tab. Loosely
secure at this time.
6. Remove the opposite-side cap screw and nut
securing the rack and pinion mounting tab to the
frame: then install the remaining Mounting
Bracket as described above. Install the cap screw
and nut. Loosely secure at this time.
7. Place the U-Nut Clip (B) onto the upper cross-
over support bracket tab located above the rack
and pinion making sure the clip is positioned
with the threaded section facing the rear of the
vehicle. See Fig. 13.

8. Position Oil Cooler (C) onto the crossover sup-
port bracket making sure the oil cooler tab is
positioned in front of the mounting tab and that
the oil cooler fittings are facing toward the rear
of the vehicle; then using Machine Screw (D),
secure the upper tab of the oil cooler to the cross-
over support bracket. Loosely secure at this time.
See Fig. 13.

9. From the front of the vehicle, insert the two Cap
Screws (M10 x 1.25 x 20) (E) through the two
lower oil cooler tabs (positioned in front of the
mounting tabs) and through the newly installed
brackets on the rack and pinion. Loosely secure
with Flange Lock Nuts.
10. Tighten the two cap screws and nuts securing the
rack and pinion to the frame to 50 ft-lb.
11. Tighten the upper machine screw to 48 in.-lb and
the lower cap screws to 20 ft-lb.
12. Insert Right-Side Oil Cooler Hose (F) onto the
passenger side oil cooler fitting making sure the
hose is properly inserted. See Fig. 14.

NOTE: The end of the hose should be inserted

over the bead. Mark this hose on the opposite end
for installation purposes.
13. Secure the hose to the cooler fitting with a
Clamp (G). Tighten to 20 in.-lb. Secure the hose
to the lower cross-over tube using a Cable Tie
(H). See Fig. 14.
14. Insert Left-Side Oil Cooler Hose onto the opera-
tor side oil cooler fitting and secure with a
clamp. Tighten to 20 in.-lb.
15. Route the right-side oil cooler hose along the top
of the frame crossover tube (behind the rack and
pinion) and then continue routing toward the rear
of the vehicle along the left side of the lower
frame rail.
16. Position the oil cooler hoses toward the oil filter
just behind the left-side rear engine mount.
17. Remove the existing oil filter and discard.
18. Remove the existing union that secures the oil
filter to the engine using a vise grip. Discard the
union.
19. Place the O-Ring into the groove on the bottom
of the Tower.
NOTE: The word “UP” is embossed on the face of
the tower.
20. Place the tower onto the engine with the O-ring
contacting the engine case.
21. Thread new Union into the center of the tower
and into the case making sure the tower hose fit-
tings are positioned parallel with the clutch cover
belt cooling duct. Tighten to 18 ft-lb. See Fig.
15.

22. Thread new Oil Filter onto the stand and prop-
erly tighten.
23. Place the left-side oil cooler hose (previously
marked) onto the right-side tower fitting (as
viewed from the rear of the vehicle). Be sure to
push the hose completely onto the fitting: then
secure with a clamp and tighten to 20 in.-lb.
24. Place the remaining oil cooler hose onto the
opposite cooler fitting and secure with clamp as
described above.
25. Secure both oil cooler hoses to the frame tubes
using cable ties as needed. See Fig. 16.

26. Fill the engine will the appropriate amount of oil;
