A various group of different I/O modules can
be connected to the LON network and it is
possible to transfer data from the I/O mod-
ules to the ECL 2000 if the variables
(SNVTs) are bound between the ECL 2000
and the I/O node with a binding tool:
Direct coupled LON sensors:
Output types:
Ø Relay
Ø Triac
Ø Analogue 0-10V
Input types:
Ø Analogue 0-10V
Ø Analogue 0 (4) -20mA
Ø Temperature inputs (Pt 100/Pt1000)
Ø Digital input
Examples:
A digital input module could contain opto-
coupler isolated digital inputs, each having
separate signal grounds. This makes it a
device, which is ideal for acquisition of
digital DC and AC process signals. It is
used for processing binary and digital val-
ues, e.g. switch signals or binary sensor
signals. Other applications are acquisition
and measurement of frequency, time, pulse
width and count.
Optionally relays with switch over contacts
can be included in some modules. These
relays can be used for signalling error con-
ditions, or for output of logic equations.
Normally, input and relay output states are
signalled by LEDs.

Combined digital output / input modules
contain groups of galvanic separated high-
side switches.
Furthermore, the outputs can be configured
as digital DC inputs for mixed applications.
Different external load supply voltages can
be used. Outputs can be connected in par-
allel for increasing load current. This makes
it ideally suited device for output of digital
process signals or for plc-interfacing. Other
applications include output of pulses with
specific frequencies, widths, or pulse se-
quences. Devices such as electronic valves,
contacts or lamps can be switched immedi-
ately.
Transistor outputs are normally protected
against short-circuit, overload, wrong load
voltage polarisation, high internal dissipation
and chip temperature.
Relay modules are used for message based
switching of external currents or signalling of
states.
Example for the usage of this module (soft-
ware not included as standard): Signalling of
reaching upper or lower limits of values.
Hysteresis and time delays are programma-
ble in both transition directions (on --> off /
off --> on).
Other possible operating modes include
clock generation, delay generation, or sim-
ple switch amplifier.
Triggering or switching activities usually oc-
cur as a consequence of message receipt
(switch command, updating of input val-
ues).
All relay modes are normally signalled with
LEDs.
Self-calibrating, integrating analog input
Modules contain analogue inputs normally
both for current, or alternatively for voltage.
It is used for processing slowly changing
analog values, e.g. sensor or transmitter
signals.
Analog output modules have normally gal-
vanic isolated analog outputs with common
signal ground. Mostly they can operate as
voltage output (0...10V) or as current output
(0/4.20mA or alt. 0...5V). This makes it a
device, which is ideal for output of analog
process signals in control applications or for
PLC-interfacing.
Service-LED and service-pin are normally
accessible from the front side.
What do I need?
For binding SNVTs:
PC (Laptop)
Interface between LON network and the PC
Binding tool
For visualisation of network data:
SCADA system, main station or PC (Laptop) with visualisation software and an OPC-server.
