Lamborghini Countach LP 500S
The front compartment of the
Countach was an invaluable storage
area. With such an enormous and
powerful engine taking up so much
room at the rear of the car, space
was at a premium.

Prepare the front compartment (Stage 27). Make sure all
the parts are still in place.
Align the hole in lock hinge C with the post on the rear wall
of the front compartment.
Place lock hinge C onto the post. As there is a projection on
the post and a corresponding notch in the hole, there is
only one way in which it can be inserted.

The headlamps of the Countach
were designed to be hidden
when not in use. At the time, this
was a common feature of
supercars. On the real car, these
would rise automatically when
the lights were switched on.
On your model, there is a control
lever that you can operate to
raise them.

socket on the LED tester (Stage 28). Align
the connector at the end of the cable
from the right headlamp unit with the
socket labelled ‘LED1’.

Insert the connector into the socket.
This should switch on the right-hand
headlamp (circled). Once tested, remove
the connectors from the sockets, and take
the batteries out of the battery box.

each side of the headlamp, in line

Then apply a strip of masking tape to
the upper half of each lens, in line with
the step.
8
Then follow the same procedure to t
headlamp lens A into position in the
other reector.
Hold the right headlamp next to the right
end of the headlamp link bar, with both
of the ‘R’ stamps facing upwards.
The headlamps should now look like this,
with both lenses in place. Check the
patterns on the lenses to ensure you have
placed them correctly.
There is a step around the rim of each
headlamp lens (A and B), which matches
the stepped lip in each of the reectors.
Look at the photograph in Step 11 to see
how the pattern of lens A diers from
that of lens B. This dierence will enable
you to tell which is which.
Place headlamp lens B into the left-hand
headlamp reector, as shown, using the
pieces of masking tape as a guide to
align the step around the rim of the lens
with the stepped lip in the reector.
Look inside each headlamp reector and
locate the stepped lip (circled and inset).

the elegant lines
and aerodynamics
of the front end of
the Countach.
399
Lamborghini Countach LP 500S
By tting the Countach with
retractable headlamps, its
designers could give it a wide,
shallow front end with great
aerodynamics when the headlamps
were down. And when the
headlamps were raised, they didn’t
obstruct the driver’s view.
