The right rear quarter window, right air intake and the rear

body support aren’t used in this stage, so keep them to one

side for the moment. The right air intake has an ‘R’ marked

on the inside of it to identify it.

The right air duct hose and the right air duct are also both

marked with an ‘R’.

Remove the backing from the double-sided tape around

the post at the end of the right air duct hose.

The iconic air intakes of the

Countach had to be added after the

rst prototype suered from engine

cooling problems. These air intakes,

which were essential additions,

were retained on the Countach’s

successor, the Diablo, but dropped

for the Murcielago, on which they

were replaced by speed-sensitive

variable intakes.

Align the post at the end of the right air duct hose with the hole in the

right air duct.

Insert the post of the air duct hose into the air duct, and push the parts together.

This stage is now complete, and you have combined the

two parts of the right air duct. Keep all the unused parts to

one side for use in the next stage.

Prepare

Right outlet louvres (Stage 56)

Right air duct hose (Stage 58)

Right rear quarter window (Stage 58)

Right air intake (Stage 58)

2.6 × 6mm screws × 4 (Stage 57)

Hold the right rear quarter window over the indicated area

on the right rear wheel box.

Insert the pins on the underside of the quarter window into

the corresponding holes in the wheel box, and push the

window into place.

Align the posts on the underside of the right air intake

(Stage 58) with the indicated holes in the wheel box.

Align the four holes in the right intake

housing with the four posts on the inside

of the wheel box.

Tighten the screw into place. This will

secure the air duct to the wheel box.

Tighten a 2.6 × 6mm screw into the hole in

the air duct hose.

Insert a 2.6 × 6mm screw into the arrowed

hole in the underside of the wheel box.

Push the pin into the hole and the hole

over the post.

Lower the air intake into place, inserting

the posts into the holes.

Push the intake housing into place on the

inside of the wheel box.

Align the pin and hole of the right air duct

hose with the hole and the post on the

underside of the wheel box.

This stage is now complete. Store the right

rear wheel box safely until it is needed.

Push the right hot air deector into place.

Align the holes of the right hot air

deector with the holes and post of the

wheel box.

Insert a 2.6 × 6mm screw into the hole in

the hot air deector.

Align the pins on the underside of the

right outlet louvres with the

corresponding holes in the opening

towards the rear of the wheel box.

Push the right outlet louvres into place in

the rear wheel box.

Tighten a second 2.6 × 6mm screw into

the other hole in the hot air deector.

Tighten the 2.6 × 6mm screw into place.

Align the edge of the mirror with the edges

of the mirror base.

Place the mirror onto the base.

Align the pins on the rear of the mirror base

with the holes in the mirror housing.

Peel the protective backing from the mirror.

Lamborghini Countach LP 500S

The Countach had notoriously poor

rearward vision, to the point that,

when reversing, drivers would open

the door and lean out to see what

was behind the car, a technique

that became known as the

‘Countach reverse’. To improve

rearward vision, a viewing window

containing another mirror was

tted into the roof behind the

rear-view mirror, to operate

together with it in an arrangement

that was known as the ‘periscope’.

Place some masking tape over half of

the mirror.

Pull back the masking tape to remove the

protective lm from the mirror.

Store the windscreen, the strong double-

sided tape and the mirror in a bag until they

are needed at a later stage.

Press the mirror base evenly into

the housing.
