The Countach in many ways
embodies the Lamborghini
brand: sleek, fast, two-seater
– but the renowned sports car
manufacturer did produce less
racey’ models, its most famous
being the four-seater Espada,
which ran from 1968-78.

Position the battery box connector next to
the socket marked BATTERY. The contour of
the connector will t neatly with the shape of
the socket, so do not force the parts.
Press the connector into place, making sure
the connector is entering straight. This may
take some force, but be very careful not to
snap either part.
6
Fit three AAA batteries into the battery box
(Stage 27), making sure not to trap any of the
delicate wires as you do so.
Next, take the connector at the end of the
black cable leading to the switch pedals, and
line this up to the socket marked SWITCH.
Press into place, again making sure the
connector is entering straight.
With both connectors in place, press the accelerator pedal (farthest right on the pedal switch
plate): the LED should light up.

middle of the centre console. Note the
dierence in size of these holes.
15
Press the gearstick base (Stage 27) into the
circular recess so that its pins t neatly into
the arrowed holes.
Now t the ashtray (also supplied in Stage 27)
into the rectangular recess below the
gearstick base.

Now remove the black cable’s connector (do
not pull on the cable itself) and t the green
cable’s connector in its place.
When removing the connectors,
pinch the two ridges highlighted in
the photo for Step 5 and pull away
gently. Never pull on the cable itself, as this
may damage the metal terminals inside the
connector block. Using needle-nose pliers
may help if you are nding it dicult to
remove a connector.

Lamborghini Countach LP 500S
Though striking, the iconic scissor-
door design of the Lamborghini
Countach is actually a fairly
straightforward mechanism. The
hinge is set below and slightly
ahead of the wing mirror, while the
single hydraulic strut used to push
and hold the door up (just visible in
this shot) is tted a little farther
down inside the door itself.

Remove the seat belt, then lay it out on a
piece of cardboard cut to a corresponding
size, as shown. Use clothes pegs to hold the
straps taut and at to dry: this process will
eliminate any folds or creases seen in the
straps left over from storage.
Once fully dry, slide
the adjusters to the
positions shown above.
Slide the circled adjusters to the ends of the
seat belt straps, as shown.

Now peel o the tapes backing and apply
the decal to the indicated length of seat belt
strap, making sure you have the orientation
of the whole seat belt correct (note the
diering shapes of the end catches of the
upper and lower straps).
Now cut around the decal with the cutter, so
that the tape it is sitting on takes the exact
same shape. There are spare decals, but be
careful not to damage this one as you do this.
6 7
Cut a length of double-sided tape to around
3 x 1cm, as shown, then use tweezers to peel
one of the decals from the sheet, and lay it
onto the tape.
Note: you may choose to apply a matt nish
to the decals for added realism, and if so, this
should be done before beginning these
steps. Follow the ’Treating the decals’ box at
the end of this stage for guidance.
Repeat for the second decal, as shown above.
Be careful to keep the belt the right way up,
and not to twist or crease the lower straps.
Repeat Steps 1-7 for the second seat belt
(saved from Stage 27), which will be tted to
the passenger seat.
Carefully turn the driver’s seat (Stage 3)
around so its underside is accessible. Take
the right-hand lower straps rectangular
catch and press this into the
correspondingly shaped recess, as shown.
The indicated pin will sit inside the hole in
the rectangular catch.
Repeat Steps 8-10 to t the second seat belt
to the passenger seat (Stage 16).
Next, take the cockpit oor assembly (Stage
28) and lower the driver’s seat into it, so that
the four pins on its underside t into the
arrowed holes in the oor’s base.

Hold the driver’s seat in place and turn the
assembly around. Insert one of the M2.3 x
6mm self-tapping screws (saved from Stage
20) into the indicated hole and tighten with
the screwdriver.
Now insert and tighten the second M2.3 x
6mm self-tapping screws from Stage 20 into
the other indicated hole. Do not overtighten
either screw.
Turn the assembly around again and use
tweezers to hook the upper seat belt catch
onto the indicated pin.
16
Repeat so that all four indicated pins have
the upper seat belt straps attached.
17 18
Next, slide the passengers oor mat into the
space beneath the passenger seat, noting the
location of the cutaway corner.
Now do the same for the driver’s oor mat, so
that its edge ts neatly underneath the hand
brake (circled). This stage is now complete, and the interior of your model’s cockpit
is really beginning to take shape.

STAGE COMPLETE
168
Lamborghini Countach LP 500S
For a realistic nish for your seat belt decals, a clear metal
primer spray and matt lacquer spray (sometimes called
topcoat) should be used. Be sure only to use clear primer.
Next, apply the matt lacquer spray, again following the
manufacturers guidelines for use. (See Pack 5 for more
information on using lacquer sprays.) Leave to dry fully
before continuing.
Peel o the protective transparent lm from the decal sheet
using tweezers, leaving only the decals themselves.
Cut lightly around the perimeter of the decals – you only
need to cut through the thin layer of clear primer and
lacquer, so there is no need to press too hard on the blade.
Lay the decal sheet out on a piece of cardboard, in a well
ventilated area. First apply the clear metal primer spray,
following the manufacturer’s instructions as given on the
can. Leave to dry fully.
The dierence in appearance of the unprimed/unlacquered
decals on the left, and the treated ones on the right can be
seen in the photo above. To apply these to the seat belt,
continue with the rest of the steps as described in this stage.

Unprimed Matt-lacquered
To create the most realistic look possible for your model, you may choose to apply a matt lacquer
nish to the seat belts’ decals, the procedure for which is described below. This is an optional
stage, so if you are happy to proceed without applying any lacquer, ignore this page.
Treating the decals

Lamborghini Countach LP 500S
The Lamborghini Countach is not famed for being a particularly
smooth ride, but what suspension it does have is provided by its
KONI-branded shock absorbers. These are doubled-up for the rear
suspension system, and every detail, from the KONI logo to the
wide-set shock springs, has been faithfully recreated for your model.
170
Lamborghini Countach LP 500S
Wrap the section of the shock’s body and
spring so that it resembles the one above,
then repeat for the second. Again, be very
careful not to touch the red strip.

For the next steps, you will need a clear
lacquer spray in gloss – the same one you
used in Stage 16 when working with the
driver and passenger’s seats will be ideal.
Always follow the manufacturers directions
and use in a well-ventilated area.
Cut a cardboard box diagonally so you have
a walled spraying area, like the one pictured.
Then, use two clothes pegs to position the
shock absorbers as shown, and spray a
thin layer of clear lacquer over them from
25-30cm away. Leave to dry fully, then peel
away the masking tape.
Take the rst shock absorber, and with the
KONI logo facing away from you, as shown,
wrap some masking tape around the parts
body. Make sure the red strip is not covered
in any way.

of 25-30cm
Attaching the rear
shock absorbers
Stage 30
For this stage, you will be applying some
clear lacquer spray in gloss (sometimes
called topcoat), to the shock absorbers, as
you did for the driver and passengers
seats in Stage 16. It is very important you
use a clear spray, and be sure to follow
the manufacturer’s guidelines for use.
171
Lamborghini Countach LP 500S
Insert one of the M2.3 x 8.5m screws into the indicated hole.
Adjust the shock absorber so that the circled holes line up
and are clear.
67
Take the rst shock absorber and t it into the indicated slot
on the rear shock absorber bracket.
Push the screw through the hole so that it feeds through the
end of the shock and into the threaded hole behind.
With the tip of the screw sitting in the hole on the far side,
tighten the screw with a screwdriver, stopping when you feel
resistance. Do not overtighten the screw.
Next, insert the second rear shock absorber into the free
slot on the same side of the shock mount, as indicated by
the red arrow.
5
8 9 10
172
Lamborghini Countach LP 500S
Repeat Steps 6-8 to t another M2.3 x 8.5mm
screw into the indicated hole.
Press this through by hand. Tighten using the screwdriver, being sure not
to overtighten.
14
Make sure that both shock absorbers can
rotate freely in their slots. If they can’t, you
may have overtightened the screws.
15 16
Make sure that the shock absorbers can
contract on their shock springs, by squeezing
the silver tops inwards. The springs are very
taut, so be careful.
Store any unused parts in a plastic bag with
the stage number (30) written on it. This will
help you in future assemblies.
This stage is complete, and the rear
shock bracket has two of its shock
absorbers tted. Store your assembly
safely until next time.

STAGE COMPLETE
173
Lamborghini Countach LP 500S
For this stage, you will need water-based markers, like those
above. These are available from modelling or art supplies
shops in a mix of coloured packs, but make sure you have a
grey one and a neutral, uncoloured one. If you can't nd
one of these, a cotton bud can be used.
Now use the neutral pen (or cotton bud) to wipe away the
surface excess, leaving the grey ink inside the dips. Wipe the
area fully clean with a folded tissue, making sure not to
wipe the ink out of the dips.
Position the circled section of the left-side cockpit wall
under a light, so the roundels of dips are easily seen.
Repeat for the left-hand cockpit wall, and
this detailing stage is complete. If you
have missed any of the holes, simply
repeat Steps C and D, again wiping the
surface clean with a tissue afterwards.
First use the grey pen to ll in the holes. It doesn’t matter if
you cover more than just the holes, as shown above.

To add a further degree of realism to the perforated holes representing the audio system
speaker covers, some water-based ink can be applied. Do this by following the steps here.
