1.1 SDI Inputs and Outputs
The GS6080 is a high-speed BiCMOS integrated circuit designed to drive one or two 75Ω
coaxial cables. The EB-GS6080 is the Evaluation Board for the GS6080. It features one
pair of 100Ω differential inputs through SMA connectors (J3, J4) and one 75Ω
single-ended output through a BNC connector (J10).
1.2 Power
The EB-GS6080 Evaluation Board features three discrete methods of powering the
board. Refer to the GS6080 Data Sheet (DocID: PDS-060045) for more information on the
necessary power requirements of the device. The power supply types are described in
Table 1-1 below.
Note: Only one method of supplying power should be used at any time.

1.3 Switch Settings
A three-point dip switch (SW1) allows for input selection. The switch is simply used to
override the default states of the three input pins as described in the Table 1-2 below.
Note: Trace Equalization is not available in SD mode, and therefore must be disabled
when operating in this mode.

Power Supply Type Description
USB connection
Attach a USB cable to connector J1 (see
Figure 1-1) and connect the other end to a
PC or USB power source. The cable required
is a USB A Male to USB Micro-B Male
connector.
External 5V Supply
Attach ground reference (GND) to TP3 and
attach the 5V supply to TP1.
External 3.3V Supply
Attach ground reference (GND) to TP3 and
attach the 3.3V supply to TP2.
Note: If using the external 3.3V supply,
resistor R6 must be removed.

1.4 Measuring ORL
To measure Output Return Loss (ORL) on the EB-GS6080 board, follow these steps:
1. Set the cable driver in balance mode by setting EQEN and SD. DISABLE must not be
set. The balance mode table is given below.
2. The cable driver outputs are now balanced. ORL can now be measured
single-endedly using a Network Analyzer. Please refer to the GS6080 Data Sheet
(DocID: PDS-060045) for more information regarding balance mode.
1.5 Signal Presence Indicator
The EB-GS6080 features a green LED (D1) which indicates when a valid signal has been
detected at the pre-driver output. The LED remains off if no signal is detected
