Theuser’stelephonemustbeconnectedtotheReachUltra TEL socket– adoubleadapteronthe
incominglinemustnotbeused.Iftheuserhasextensiontelephonescareshouldbetakentoensurethat
thesearealsoconnectedviatheReachUltraTELsocket.Failuretoconnecttheuser’stelephonesas
describedabovemaycausedifficultieswithalarmcallsifindoubtseekadvice.
Iftheuserhaselectronicequipmentitshouldbeatleast2metresawayfromtheReachUltraunit.
Failuretoprovidethisseparationmayresultinreducedrangeofpersonalpendantsorotherradiodevices.
DonotlocatetheReachUltraunitnearadirectheatsource,e.g.adjacenttoorabovearadiatororother
heatsource,oronawindowsillindirectsunlight.

AlltelephoneequipmenthasaRingerEquivalenceNumber (REN)whichisusedtocalculatethenumberof
itemsthatcanbeconnectedtoasingletelephoneline.ARENof4isthemaximumallowedonastandard
UKtelephoneline‐theReachUltrahasaRENof1.IftheRENtotalofallequipmentconnectedtoa
telephonelineexceeds4theequipmentmaynotoperatecorrectly.Withdifferenttypesofequipment
thereisnoguaranteeofcorrectoperationeveniftheRENislessthan4.Typically,1or2standard
telephones(REN1)canbeusedwiththeReachUltra.
WheninstallingaReachUltraunitensureallradiotriggerdevicesincludingthosethatmayhavebeen
previouslyinstallede.g.smokedetectors,PIR'setc.areregisteredwiththeReachUltraunit.
OncecompleteatestcallshouldberaisedfromeachtriggerdevicetotheARCtoensureitisreceivedand
thetriggerdeviceiscorrectlyidentified.
Avoidusingharsh,abrasiveorcorrosivecleaningagentsordetergents(e.g.scouringpowders,bleaches,
polishes,etc.)whencleaningtheReachUltraorTouchPendant.
YoucandusttheReachUltraorTouchPendant withasoftclothorsoftbrush.Forparticularlysoiledunits
wipecleanwithadampclothandanonabrasivecleaningproduct,polishwithadryduster.
DONOTuseawetclothontheReachUltraunit.
TheReachUltra unitincludesdelicateelectronicstoallowwatertocomeintocontactwithitis
dangerousandmaycausedamage.Iftheunitdoesgetwet;unplugitfromthemainssupplyandswitch
offimmediately,thencontactyourServiceProviderbeforeattemptingtoreuseit.
TheReachUltra andTouchPendant bothcontainbatteriesandshouldthereforenotbedisposed ofin
domesticwaste.RefertoTynetec’sTelecareBatteryManagementinformation(DocNo.FM0630)for
detailsonbatterytypes,changingintervalsandsafedisposal.

TheReachUltradefaultstothePSTNlinefornormaloperation,shouldthelinefailformorethan2
minutesitwillautomaticallyswitchtoGSMmode.WhenswitchedtoGSMmodeitwillcheckthePSTN
lineevery10minutes,oncethelineisdetectedagaintheunitwillswitchbacktoPSTNmode.
WhenoperatinginPSTNmodeallGSMfunctionsi.e.SMStextmessagingandtheiCaremonitoring
servicewilloperateasnormal.
WhenoperatinginGSMmodetheuserstelephoneconnectedtotheReachUltracannotbeusedfor
incomingoroutgoingtelephonecalls.
TheReachUltrawillonlyreportaTelephoneLineFaultwhenboththePSTNlineandthemobile
networkhavefailed.
TheReachUltraissueB2onwardscanbesettooperateinGSMonlymode,i.e.itwillneverswitchto
PSTNmodeevenifalivelineisconnected.RefertoprogrammingSection2.6.14parameter#154.
IntheeventofaPSTNfailure,theReachUltra willattemptto switchtoGSMcommunicationmode
subjecttonetworkcoverageandavailability.Supplyandprovisionofmobileconnectivityisthe
responsibilityoftheserviceprovider.
