The stand

Paddock stand

Tapping wrench/2.3mm tap or screw
Swingarm (Stage 37)
Your parts
To keep the Hayabusa light, it was
designed without a centre stand. This
can be a problem when it comes to
maintenance or storage, as a side
stand, which it did have, will give you
limited access to the side of the bike,
and a side stand leans the bike over,
which means that it takes up more
space. Supplied with your model is an
example of a paddock stand, which is
separate from the bike and takes the
place of a centre stand.
Take the swingarm from Stage 37 and tap
the two holes at the bottom (circled), with
a 2.3mm screw or tap. Insert one of the 2.3 × 16mm screws
through one of the stand bobbins. Make
sure that you get the orientation of the
bobbin correct, as shown above.

Insert the end of the screw into one of the
tapped holes in the swingarm.
Place the paddock stand on a at
surface, and align the bobbins on the
swingarm with the bobbin hooks at the
top of the stand.
Move the swingarm up and down with the
bobbins in the hooks to ensure that the
movement is smooth and aligned.
Repeat Steps 2-4 to t the second bobbin
to the swingarm.
Tighten the 2.3 × 16mm screw into place,
securing the bobbin to the swingarm.
Place the bobbins into the hooks,
as shown.
The ends of the 2.3 × 16mm screws
should be protruding through the holes
on the inside of the swingarm by about
the amount shown in the inset (circled).
Tighten the screws until you cannot turn
the bobbins with your ngers.
This stage is now complete. The paddock
stand will be an essential tool throughout
the rest of the assembly work.

Check the edges of the highlighted
hole in the centre of the rear subframe
to check that they are smooth. If you
nd any sharpness or roughness, use a
le to remove it.
1
Above the Hayabusa’s rear fender
is a reinforced resin subframe with
an aluminium alloy rail around it to
ensure the rigidity of the component.
Including this lightweight alternative
signicantly reduced the overall weight
of the bike, thereby contributing to its
handling and ease of maintenance.
Because the 2.3 × 6mm self-tapping screws
and 2 × 6mm self-tapping screws are so
similar in size, it’s best to keep them in the
bags that they come in, labelled with the
stage number and their size.
Tip

SUZUKI GSX 1300R Hayabusa: Assembly Guide
Prepare the main frame assembly from Stage 37, and place
it on a cutting mat. In the time since it was assembled, the
bridges may have moved or warped. Placing it over the grid
of the cutting matt allows you to make sure the lines are all
parallel. In the image above, you can see that frame bridge
C is slightly misaligned with the others.
If you do nd that the frames or bridges are out of
alignment, try moving the frames around to see where
they need to be in order to align the bridges.
When the correct position is found, t additional elastic
bands to hold the frames in that place.

This stage is now complete. Check
the positions of the frames and
bridges every two weeks – you may
need to add or remove elastic bands
as necessary.
With the bands added here,
frame bridge C is pulled into
alignment with the others
Remember that these are
example images, and that your
model will dier from them
and may not need adjustment.

The battery box

Tools Prepare

Your parts
The battery box of the model is
incorporated into the rear subframe
supplied with Stage 39. This box will
power the lights on the bike, and will
be discreetly hidden away when the
fairings are tted.
Remove the screw
holding the backing plate
onto the battery box.

This stage is now complete. Store any unused parts, along
with the battery box, safely to one side.
Remove the backing plate from the battery box.
Place a further two batteries into the battery box, again
matching the positions shown inside the box.
You will notice that the positions of the batteries are
marked inside the battery box.
The points at which the power cable attaches to the
battery box are fragile, so take care when handling it.
Place an AAA battery into the rst section of the battery
box, matching the position marked on the box.
