The Hayabusa’s large-capacity engine
needs 3 litres or more of engine oil to
keep it running. The oil pan that houses
the engine oil is tted at the bottom
of the engine. As your model does not
need oil, this has become the housing
for the IR sensor, which connects the
model remotely to the base.
Tap the two circled holes in the inside of
the oil pan with either a 2.3mm screw or a
2.3mm tap. Place the IR sensor board onto the inside of
the oil pan, aligning the wires of the board
with the cut-out in the wall of the oil pan
(blue circles). Be very careful when handling
the sensor board – hold it by the edges only.

This stage is now complete. Store the oil pan and the screws until they are
needed again.
Align the holes in the IR sensor board
(circled) with the holes you tapped in
the oil pan.
Align the three mounting pins on the
sensor window with the three holes in the
outside of the oil pan.
Tighten the screw into place. Stop when it
starts to get tight.
Tighten a second 2.3 × 5mm screw into the
other side of the sensor board, then fully
tighten the rst screw to secure the board
to the oil pan.
Insert a 2.3 × 5mm screw into one of the
aligned holes, as shown.
Gently push the window pins into the holes
in the pan.

To increase the eectiveness of the
rear shock absorber, it was mounted
on a lever mechanism. This increased
its range of travel, making for a more
comfortable ride, without actually
making the shock any longer.

Place a 2.3 × 6mm self-tapping screw
(Stage 26) into one of the aligned holes.
Align the holes of the lever and shock
absorber as shown, and insert a 2.3 ×
12mm screw into them.
Hold the shock absorber lever, as shown.
There is a slight step around the circled
hole. Check the holes for any burrs and
remove them with a le.
The screw, lever and shock absorber
should now look like this.
Tighten the screw into the hole, and then
put a second 2.3 × 6mm self-tapping
screw into the other hole.
Tighten the 2.3 × 12mm screw into
the hole. When the head of the screw
touches the side of the shock absorber,
stop tightening.
Hold the shock absorber as shown in the
photo (note the orientation of the part in
the red circle). Place the non-stepped side
of the lever between the sides of the end
of the absorber.
Hold one of the shock absorber rods and
insert one of the shock absorber shafts
into the hole at one end.

Place the end of the shaft into the hole in
the angle of the lever.
Tighten the nut onto the end of the shaft.
Hold the rst rod and shaft in position, and
place the second rod over the free end of
the shaft.
Push frame bridge A into the slot in the
frame, aligning the screw hole of the
bridge (circled) with the one in the frame.
Push the shaft through the hole until the
rod butts up against the lever.
Hold the left frame half from Stage 32 in
one hand and frame bridge A in the other.
Turn frame bridge A so that the wider end
is closest to the frame.
Place an M3 nut over the end of the shaft.
Place a 2.3 × 6mm (silver) self-tapping
screw (Stage 26) into the hole on the
outside of the frame half.

The frame used for the Hayabusa
is a twin-spar aluminium frame. It
combined compact design with a high-
rigidity frame that was overwhelmingly
light, ensuring both stability and
mobility during high-speeds.

Take the rear swingarm from Stage 26
and the shock absorber from Stage 36.
Hold the shock absorber so the lever is
furthest from the swingarm. Insert the shock absorber into the hole in
the swingarm.

holes in the swingarm.
Place the M3 nut from Stage 36 onto the
end of the shaft.
Use the cross wrench and screwdriver to
tighten the nut fully onto the shaft.
Take the second shock absorber shaft from Stage 36 and
insert it into the rod on the side shown.
Tighten the nut into place with
your ngers.
Push the shaft through the swingarm until it comes out of
the rod on the other side.

Locate the circled holes in the right frame half. Check the holes for any burrs
and remove them with a le. Tap the two blue-circled holes, using a 2.3mm tap
or screw.
Push frame bridge D into the hole in the
left frame half.
Remove the masking tape temporarily
holding the parts to the left frame half
(Stage 36).
Align the right frame half with the left.
Match the bridges in the left half with the
corresponding holes in the right half.
Place the circular area of frame bridge D
into the circular recess at the front of the
frame half.
Take frame bridge D, and align the
side of it with the hole in the left
frame half (arrowed).
Carefully place the right frame half onto

This stage is now complete and the frame has
been temporarily assembled. Store it away,
with the elastic bands still tted, along with
the swingarm and any unused parts.
Once the right frame half is positioned on
the ends of bridges A-D, push it down so it
is ush against the left frame half.
Tighten the 2.3 × 6mm screw into place.
Wrap more elastic bands around the
frame assembly.
Turn the frame around to check the
positions of frame bridges A-C, making
sure they are parallel to each other.
Adjust the positions of the elastic bands so
that frame bridges A-C are parallel.
Place a 2.3 × 6mm (silver) self-tapping
screw (Stage 26) into the hole shown.
Hold the two frame halves together and
wrap an elastic band around the lower
part, as shown.
