1 Introduction
METTLER TOLEDO pH sensors type InPro
®
2000 (i) are
high-precisionelectrodeswithliquidelectrolyte,silver-ion
trapandbuilt-intemperature sensor. The InPro2000(i)
sensorsaresuitableforthesamewiderangeofapplica
-
tionsasthecorresponding465sensorswithoutbuilt-in
temperaturesensor,andprovideanadditionaltemperature
signalforautomatictemperaturecompensationofthepH
signal during calibration and operation. InPro 2000 (i) sen
-
sors are in-situ sterilizable.
Pleasereadthroughtheseoperatinginstructionscarefully
beforecommissioning,inordertoensuretrouble-freeuse.
2 Safetyinstructions
Thesensorconsists partlyofglass andshouldbehan-
dledcarefully.Ifthesensoristobecleanedorcalibrated
usingacidoralkalinesolutions,safetygogglesandgloves
shouldbeworn.Localsafetyregulationsareapplicableto
thehandlingofthesensor.
We recommend that you only operate the electrode in
combination with original parts from METTLER TOLEDO.
Operationandmaintenanceshouldbecarriedoutonlyby
trainedpersonnelandstaffwhohavereadandunderstood
theoperatinginstructions.

4 Installationandcommissioning
1. Onunpacking,checkthesensorforpossiblemechani-
caldamageofthepHsensitiveglass,thediaphragm(s),
thebodyandtheconnector.Reportanydamageimme
-
diatelytoyourMETTLERTOLEDOsupplier.
2. Remove the watering cap and rinse the sensor with
deionizedwater.Afterrinsing,thesensorshouldonly
bedabbeddrywithatissue.DonotrubthepHsensitive
glass,sincethiscanleadtoelectrostaticchargingand
sluggishresponsetimes.
3. CarefullycheckthespacebehindthepHsensitiveglass
forthepresenceofanyairbubblesandremovesame
bygentlyswingingthesensorinaverticalplane.
4. Remove completely from the electrode,the T-shaped
rubberstopperintheelectrolyterellopeningandits
elasticsecuringbandbeforeinsertingtheelectrodeinto
thehousing.Alsoremovepossibleelectrolyterestsin
thellingport.
5. Please refer to the instruction manual of the relative
housinginordertoinstallthesensorcorrectly.
6. ConnectthesensortothepHtransmitter,usingacorre
-
spondingcable.Pleaserefertothewiringandterminal
diagramaccompanyingthecable.
7. ForelectrodeswithPt100temperaturesensors,3-wire
techniqueisrecommendedinordertoobtainbestmea
-
surementaccuracy.Pleaserefertothecableandtrans-
mitterinstructionmanualsforthecorrespondingcable
wireconnections.

stallation,commissioningandoperationoftheISMsys-
templeaseobservetheinstructionsforthetransmitter,
moduleandcable.
5 Operation
5.1CalibrationofthesensorandpHtransmitter
ForInPro2000(i)sensors,a2-pointcalibrationisrecom
-
mended.Thecalibrationcanbemadewiththesensoreither
readyformountingoralreadymountedwithinthehousing.
Afterremovingthewateringcap,thesensorisdippedin
successionintotwodifferentbuffersolutionswithgivenpH
referencevaluesandthetransmitteriscalibratedtothese
buffer values.
5.2Sterilizationofsensor
Inthecaseofsterileprocesses,suchasinfermentationap
-
plications,thesensorsaresterilizedpriortotheproduction
cycle.Sterilizationisnormallyeffectedbymeansofsteam
orsuperheatedprocessmediumwiththesensoralready
mountedinthereactorinsideitshousing.
5.3 Housing pressurizing
During possible sensor sterilization and during normal
operation,itisimportantthatthehousingandelectrolyte
pressureisadjustedtobehigherthantheeffectivepressure
inthereactorvessel.Thismeasureisnecessaryinorder
toavoidmediumintrusionintotheelectrolyte.Theoptimal
pressuredifferencevaluetokeepthediaphragmcleanand
obtainacceptableelectrolyterellintervalshastobeestab
-
lishedempiricallyfromcasetocase.

5.4Temperaturesensor
TheintegratedPt100/1000temperaturesensorisprimari
-
lyintendedforautomatictemperaturecompensationofthe
pHsignalduringcalibrationandnormaloperation,and
notforthe accurate indicationorcontrol ofthe process
temperature.
6 Maintenance
1. Regularly check the applied housing overpressure
duringoperation,andre-adjustifrequired.
2. Regularly check the electrolyte level in the sensor.
Whenreachingtheendofthebulbousshaftsection
(reservoir),rell with the electrolyteindicated on the
sensoruptotheindicationlineformax.level.
3. Inthecase ofelectrodeswith electrolytebridge,ref
-
erenceelectrolyteisrstlledintotheouterchamber
(marked blue) up to the maximum level. The inner
chamber (red marking) is then lled to a level ap
-
proximately0.5to1.0cmhigherthanthatoftheouter
chamber.
4. Carefullyrinsethesensortip anddiaphragm(s)with
deionizedwateraftereachproductioncycle.Underno
circumstancesmustmeasuringsolutionbeallowedto
dryontheseparts!
5. Whenthesensorisnotinoperation,storeitwithsen
-
sortipanddiaphragmwellsubmergedintothesame
referenceelectrolyteasinsidethesensor.
6. Ifthesensorisstoredmountedinitshousing,thesame
ruleasin4)aboveapplies,butthestorageelectrolyte
hastobeslightlymodied,with2partsofbuffersolu
-
tionpH9.2to10partsofelectrolyte,thisinorderto
avoidcorrosionofhousingparts.
7. Ifasensorisstoreddryforafewdaysbymistake,letit
soakinthenormalstorageelectrolyteforseveralhours
before use.
8. Occasionallychecktheconnectorforpossibletracesof
moisture.Ifnecessary,cleanwellwithdeionizedwater
oralcohol,andafterwardsdrycarefully.
7 Trouble-shooting
Atsluggishresponsetime(e.g.afteralonganddrystor-
ageperiod),reactivationofthepHsensitiveglassmaybe
necessary.DipthepHsensitiveglass(butnofurthersen
-
sorparts)intoReactivation(HF)Solution(articleNo.51
319053)for5min.Afterwards,rinsewellwithdeionized
waterandletsensortipanddiaphragmsoakinreference
electrolyteforminimum12hours.
Rapidly increased resistance of reference electrode
and/ordriftcouldbesignsofproteinprecipitation.Use
CleaningSolutionPepsin/HCl(articleNo.51340068)
toremovesuchprecipitation.Atrepeatedproblemsofthis
type,considerswitchingtosensorswithFriscolyt™/9848
electrolyte,whichcounteractsproteinprecipitations.
8 Disposal
Ifnorelativeofcialregulationsareinforce,usedorde-
fectiveInPro2000(i)sensorsandthepackagingcanbe
disposedofasordinaryhouseholdwaste.
9 Guarantee
Onmanufacturingdefects,12monthsafterdelivery.
