INSTRUCTIONS D’INSTALLATION
TO INSTALL:
FOR INSTALLATIONS THAT HAVE EXISTING LUMINAIRES:
STEP 1:
Remove existing luminaire from canopy surface. Remove any old
caulking, then wash both top and bottom canopy surfaces. Ensure top
canopy surface is dry prior to proceeding with luminaire install.
STEP 2:
If the existing hole is larger than 4” dia, a beauty plate and backer
accessory kit must be installed first. If the accessory kit was not
provided with the luminaire, then contact the manufacturer to order. In
this instance, reference backing plate/beauty plate accessory installation
instructions. If the hole is equal to or smaller than 4” dia, then proceed to
step 1 in New Luminaire Installation section below.
NOTE: Beauty plate is compatible with both sparkle and cut off bezels.
FOR NEW LUMINAIRE INSTALLATIONS:
STEP 1:
Unbox luminaire; do not remove canopy gasket protective cover. Measure
the canopy’s width and note the panel size (Common sizes are 12” and
16”). Using the supplied template (located on the packaging insert) mark
the locations for the center hole and outer two fastener positions marked
with cross-hairs. This ensures that the luminaire is oriented correctly.
See Figure 2 for lower template, Not to scale.
STEP 2:
Cut a 4.0” dia hole for luminaire into canopy at the previously marked
center location.
NOTE: If there is an existing hole of a smaller diameter, two common
methods used to expand the hole are to either :
1. Use a core cut from scrap material and place it on the 4.0” hole saw
pilot bit to provide centering.
2. Use a double hole-saw with the smaller diameter saw within the
larger 4” saw.

NOTES:
The electrical supply connection of the
CPY500 Canopy Luminaire employs type
TC-ER cable. This cable must be connected
to the electrical supply in accordance with the
wiring practices described in Article 336 of
NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code).
This light fixture is designed to be sealed
from above the canopy. If water is dripping
from light fixture area DO NOT seal light
engine directly to the lower side of the canopy
as this may cause water to pool inside the
light fixture, which can lead to partial or
complete failure of the light fixture. Avoid
all water leakage from above the canopy by
ensuring the driver base and screw holes are
properly sealed.
Sealing the light engine directly to the lower
side of the canopy will void the manufacturer
10-year warranty.
The supply cable is intended to be connected
via the appropriate Listed fitting to a
cable tray of the supply. The cable is to be
prevented from being subjected to physical
damage, using mechanical protection such as
struts, angles or channels. The cable shall
be mechanically supported where exiting
the cable tray to ensure that the minimum
bending radius of four times the diameter of
the cable is not exceeded.
Examples of appropriate Listed fittings:

STEP 3:
Make sure bottom side of canopy surface is free from debris. Place
mounting bracket into hole. The side of the mounting bracket labeled
“THIS SIDE UP” should be against the canopy with the tall ribs on the
mounting bracket fitting inside the circle cut. Insert and tighten (4)
supplied 5/16" Phillips hex head self-drilling sheet metal screws utilizing
the two previously marked fastener locations as shown in Figure 1. If
canopy is not sufficiently flattened with four outer fasteners, insert and
tighten extra fasteners into inner fastener locations as necessary. One
extra fastener is included with each luminaire. If additional fasteners are
needed use fasteners of the same type.
NOTE: Luminaire corners are aligned with ends of mounting bracket per
Figure 4.
STEP 4:
Squeeze legs of wire-form hanger on light engine together and insert
into mounting bracket opening. Using wire-tie included in hardware bag,
fasten legs together at notch location shown in Figure 3. Trim excess
length from wire-tie once fully secured. The light engine can now hang
freely from the mounting bracket. Depending on customer preference, any
one of four mounting bracket hanger slots can be used to orient Standard,
Occupancy Sensor or Zhaga socket Luminaire versions as desired.
STEP 5:
For products with optional field adjustable dimming, complete Steps 1 and
2 of the Field Adjustable Dimming section.
For products without field adjustable dimming, proceed to next step.
STEP 6:
If luminaire has a bezel, refer to bezel accessory installation instructions.
If luminaire does not have a bezel, proceed to the next step.
STEP 7:
If area above 4”dia hole is covered by a beam, leave light engine hanging
on wire form hanger. If area above 4”dia hole is clear, swing light engine
upwards, and drive 4x T20 retained corner fasteners into mounting bracket
to 23 in-lbs as shown in Figure 4.
STEP 8:
Once above canopy, if driver enclosure must be installed directly beneath
a canopy beam, reference Install Driver Housing Under Beam section on
the next page to complete installation. If no beam, proceed to next step.
STEP 9:
Make all electrical connections between luminaire light engine and driver
enclosure per the Electrical Connections section.
STEP 10:
NOTE: A template has been included on the packaging insert to assist
when positioning the driver enclosure. Template is aligned on protruding
mounting bracket screws. See Figure 5 for upper template, Not to scale.
Make sure top side of canopy surface is free from debris. Remove canopy
gasket protective cover. Position driver enclosure over middle of 4”dia
hole as shown in Figure 6. (To avoid obstacles as necessary, housing can
be clocked in 90 degree increments with mounting bracket). Spin housing
one full rotation to ensure wires are loosely bundled. Fasten housing into
position using (3x) retained T20 torx/hex drive fasteners to 32 in-lbs per
Figure 7.
STEP 11:
Verify driver housing bottom lip is flush with canopy surface. If there is a
gap, continue tightening (3x) retained T20 torx/hex head fasteners until all
four driver housing sides contact canopy surface.
STEP 12:
If Cree Lighting junction box being used, refer to installation instructions
supplied with the junction box accessory. If Cree Lighting junction box is
not being used, proceed to the next step.
STEP 13:
Attach the luminaire’s supply cable using the supplied 1/2” cord-grip to
customer provided junction box. Tighten grip to 75 in-lbs and make wiring
connections per the Electrical Connection- Junction Box section.
STEP 14:
Apply sealant around all mounting screws poking through canopy, around
perimeter of driver housing, and tops of (3x) T20 torx/hex head fasteners
for a complete seal.

INSTALL DRIVER HOUSING UNDER BEAM:
NOTE: Luminaire will only fit beneath a beam with the following
characteristics: beam flange is covering no more than half of the
mounting hole with a deck clearance of at least 3".
STEP 1:
If beam is 3” above decking, and fairly centered on 4”dia hole, remove
nylon retention washers from the ends of the (3x) T20 torx/hex fasteners.
Reference Figure 8. Otherwise skip this step.
STEP 2:
Make sure top side of canopy surface is free from debris. Remove canopy
gasket protective cover.
STEP 3:
While holding all three fasteners such that heads are approximately 0.5”
above their landing pads, tilt and slide the driver housing under the beam
until the plastic driver housing is centered on the 4”dia hole as shown in
Figure 9 (while sliding luminaire, housing gasket at rear will need to be
temporarily compressed). Once centered on the hole, allow the front of
the housing to rotate down to sit flush with canopy. If housing is trapped
and cannot move any lateral significant distance, housing is correctly
aligned.
STEP 4:
Fasten housing into position using (3x) T20 torx/hex drive fasteners to
32 in-lbs as illustrated in Figure 7.
NOTE: Fasteners also accept 1/4” socket or wrench for side installation.
