1 Introduction
METTLERTOLEDOpHsensorstypeInPro
®
3200arelow-
maintenanceelectrodeswithpressurizedgel-electrolyte,
silver-ion trap and built-in temperature sensor.
The InPro 3200 sensors are suitable for the same
applications as the corresponding DPA(S) sensors
without RTD, and provide an additional temperature
signalforautomatictemperaturecompensationofthe
pH signal during calibration and operation.
InPro 3200 sensors are autoclavable and in-situ
sterilizable.
2 Safety instructions
Thesensorconsistsp ar t lyofglassan dsho uldbehandle d
carefully.Ifthesensoristobecleanedorcalibratedusing
acid or alkaline solutions, safety goggles and gloves
shouldbeworn.Localsafetyregulationsareapplicable
tothehandlingofthesensor.Pleasefollowtheguidelines
enclosedforaninstallationintheExzone.Pleasetake
extra care during installation/tting of the sensor to
ensurethatneitherthepolymerbody/shaftofthesensor
northethread(Pg13.5)sufferanyinjuryordamage.
We recommend that you only operate the electrode
in combination with original parts from METTLER
TOLEDO.Operationandmaintenanceshouldbecarried
outonlybytrainedpersonnelandstaffwhohaveread
andunderstoodtheoperatinginstructions.

4 Installation and commissioning
1. On unpacking, check the sensor for possible
mechanical damage of the pH sensitive glass,
the diaphragm, the shaft and the VarioPin (VP)
connector.Reportanydamageimmediatelytoyour
METTLERTOLEDOsupplier.
2. Remove the watering cap and briey rinse the
sensor with deionized water. Carefully remove the
protectiondropletofsiliconeonthediaphragmwith
theenclosedknife,asshownonthegreenpictures
onthepacking.
3. Againrinsethesensorwellwithdeionizedwater.After
rinsing,thesensorshouldonlybedabbeddrywith
atissue.Donotrub the pH sensitiveglass,since
thiscanleadtoelectrostaticchargingandsluggish
response times.
4. Carefullycheckthespace behind thepHsensitive
glassforthepresenceofanyairbubblesandremove
same by gently swinging the sensor in a vertical
plane.
5. Pleaserefertotheinstructionmanualoftherelative
housinginordertoinstallthesensorcorrectly.
6. Connect the sensor to the pHtransmitter, usinga
cablewithVarioPin(VP)connector.Pleasereferto
thewiringandterminaldiagramaccompanyingthe
cable.
7. For electrodes with Pt100 temperature sensors,
3-wiretechniqueisrecommendedinordertoobtain
best measurement accuracy. Please refer to the
cable and transmitter instruction manuals for the
correspondingcablewireconnections.
8.ForInPro3200SGelectrodes,withanadditionalPt
ringforsolutionground,connectthecorresponding
blue wire in the VP-cable to your transmitter in
accordance with instructions in the connection
diagramm of VP-cable and/or in the transmitter
instruction manual. For ORP measurement (sep.
transmitter needed) connect solution ground with
ORP input.
5 Operation
5.1 Calibration of the sensor and pH transmitter
For InPro 3200 sensors, a 2-point calibration is
recommended. After removing the watering cap,
the sensor is dipped in succession into two different
buffersolutionswithgivenpHreferencevaluesandthe
transmitteriscalibratedtothesebuffervalues.
5.2 Sterilization of sensor
Inthecaseofsterileprocesses,such as infermenta-
tionapplications,thesensorsaresterilizedpriortothe
productioncycle.Autoclavingofthewholefermenter/re-
actorunit including pH electrode is possible with this
sensor type. Sterilization can also be effected in-situ
bymeansofsteamorsuperheatedprocessmediumin
contactwiththelowersensorparts.

5.3 Temperature sensor
The integrated Pt100/1000 temperature sensor
is primarily intended for automatic temperature
compensationofthepHsignalduringcalibration and
normal operation, and notfortheaccurateindicationor
controloftheprocesstemperature.
6 Maintenance
1. Carefully rinse the sensor tip and diaphragm with
deionizedwateraftereachproductioncycle.Under
no circumstances must measuring solution be
allowedtodryontheseparts!
2. When the sensor is not in operation, store itwith
sensor tip and diaphragm well submerged into
9823/3MKClor9816/Viscolyt™electrolyte.
3. Ifthesensorisstoredmountedinitshousing,the
sameruleasin2)aboveapplies,butthestorage
electrolytehastobeslightlymodied,with2partsof
buffersolutionpH9.2to10partsofelectrolyte,this
inordertoavoidcorrosionofhousingparts.
4. Ifasensorisstoreddryforafewdaysbymistake,let
itsoakinthenormalstorageelectrolyteforseveral
hoursbeforeuse.
5. Occasionallychecktheconnectorforpossibletraces
ofmoisture.Ifnecessary,cleanwellwithdeionized
wateroralcohol,andafterwardsdrycarefully.
7 Trouble-shooting
At sluggish response time (e.g.after alonganddry
storage period), reactivation of the pH sensitiveglass
maybenecessary.DipthepHsensitiveglass(butno
furthersensorparts!)intoReconditioning(HF)Solution
(articleno.51319001)for5min.Afterwards,rinsewell
withdeionizedwaterandletsensortipanddiaphragm
soakinreferenceelectrolyteforminimum12hours.
Rapidly increased resistance of reference electrode
and/or drift could be signs of protein precipitation. Use
CleaningSolutionPepsin/HCl(articleno.51340068)
toremovesuchprecipitation.Atrepeatedproblemsof
thistype,considerswitchingtosensorswithFriscolyt™
basedgelelectrolyte.
8 Disposal
If no relative ofcial regulations are in force, used or
defectiveInPro3200sensorsandthepackagingcanbe
disposedofasordinaryhouseholdwaste.
9 Guarantee
Onmanufacturingdefects,12monthsafterdelivery.
