FDKC SMOKE DETECTOR
INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
INSTALLATION
The FDKC (UG-3-O) smoke detector must always be installed in the
direction of the air flow inside the duct. The shape of the smoke
detector mounting flange and the arrow on the casing show the
correct direction of the airflow. The smoke detector can be installed
on any side of the air duct.
PLEASE NOTE: For rectangular ducts, in order for the detector to
optimally sample the air, install the FDKC (UG-3-O) on the smallest
side of a rectangular duct.
It is recommended that the FDKC (UG-3-O) be installed at the same
distance from heaters, coolers or humidifiers as other flow meters.
A safety distance should be observed between the installation
point of the smoke detector and a source of disturbance such
as a damper, filter or a duct elbow. When the installation point is
upstream of a source of disturbance, the safety distance is three
times the duct diameter (3 x D),
while if it is downstream of a
source of disturbance, the safety
distance is five times the duct
diameter (5 x D).

FDKC Instructions for installation, operation and maintenance
1
Drill a hole in the duct:
Without an installation support brace, ø 38 mm
With an installation support brace and/or with a venturi tube equipped with an
additional fan, ø 51 mm
2
Measure the duct diameter.
Shorten the venturi tube if necessary.
The venturi tube should cover at least 90% of the duct diameter.
PLEASE NOTE: See point 8.
Install the end plug.
3
Install the black gasket in the venturi tube.
Push the venturi tube into the bottom of the adapter.
Attach the venturi tube into the adapter using a locking screw.
4
Install the venturi tube and the smoke detector in the duct.
Attach the smoke detector adapter into the duct wall using three screws in the
locations marked in the figure.
PLEASE NOTE: — IMPORTANT!
The airflow direction markings (the mounting flange shape and the arrow on top of
the casing) must be installed in line with the duct airflow.
5
FLOW INDICATOR AND VENTURI TUBE WITH ADDITIONAL FAN*
The FDKC (UG-3-O) is equipped with a red plastic flow indicator that twists outward
due to the airflow when the smoke detector has been installed correctly.
PLEASE NOTE:
If the flow indicator does not move due to the airflow, consider a different installation
point in the duct, or install a venturi tube with an additional fan.
When using a venturi tube with an additional fan, the use of a support brace is re-
quired.
*A venturi tube with an additional fan is a regular venturi tube that includes an addi-
tional fan. The fan needs a separate 24 VAC/DC power supply.

ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Detach the protective cover by opening the locking clip.
Push the cable through the Klikseal grommet. If you wish to use different grom-
mets, detach the pre-installed grommets by pushing the grommet out of its hole
first from one edge and then the other (1-2).
The smoke detector is fitted with four IP67 Klikseal grommets for cable diameters
4-11 mm.
PLEASE NOTE: The cable may only be pulled in the direction of the connectors
through the Klikseal grommet. If the cable has to be replaced, it has to be cut
outside the smoke detector and then pulled through the grommet in the direction
of the connectors.
Connect the wires according to the connection instructions.
Do not shorten this end!

OPERATIONAL TESTING
Check that the smoke detector works using test spray RDP-300 or an equal solution.
Move the testing hole plug to the side and spray some test gas into the hole.
When the fire alarm is active, a red LED lights up on the circuit board and the
detection component. When the service alarm is active, a yellow LED lights up on
the circuit board, while a green one lights up in the detector.
IMPORTANT! Seal the test hole with the plug after device operation has been tested.
PLEASE NOTE: Do not drill holes in the casing to attach guides for example. Holes
cause leaks that may significantly disrupt the operation of the detector.
8
VENTURI TUBE INSTALLATION IN DUCTS OF DIFFERENT DIAMETERS
Standard 600 mm venturi tube for ducts
under 600 mm in diameter.
1500 mm venturi tube for ducts
with a diameter of 600-1400 mm.
2800 mm venturi tube for ducts
with a diameter of over 1400 mm.
9
INSTALLATION IN PLACES WHERE CONDENSATION MAY OCCUR, SUCH AS UNHEATED ATTICS AND OUTDOORS.
Drill a hole of
Ø 38 mm.
Drill a hole of
Ø 38 mm.
• Shorten the venturi tube to its
correct size.
• Install the end plug.
• Install the plastic
end gasket.
• Install the rubber
gasket, HFU204.
PLEASE NOTE:
Drill a hole of
Ø 51 mm.
Max. channel diameter 600 mm.
Use a venturi tube of 600 mm.
Shorten if necessary.
Diameter of channel over 600 mm.
The venturi tube has to extend
through the entire duct.
The venturi tube must not protrude over 30 mm from the duct.
Smoke detector
Sign plate
Drill a hole
Ø 38 mm.
Insulate the entire smoke detector
using insulation with a thickness of
100-200 mm. Mark the location of
the insulated smoke detector with a
sign outside the insulation.
For outdoor installations, use
a cover such as the Calectro
UG-COVER.
Drill a hole
Ø 38 mm.

SUPPORT BRACE FOR ROUND DUCTS OR INSULATED RECTANGULAR DUCTS
Drill a hole
Ø 51 mm.
The installation support brace can even be attached
to ducts that are only 100mm in diameter.
The installation support brace can
be easily shaped to fit a round or
rectangular duct.
The installation support brace is
delivered straight.

FINAL INSPECTION
Check that the air flow direction markings in the smoke detector
mounting flange and on the casing are in line with the duct
airflow.
Check that the test hole is properly plugged using the rubber
plug supplied.
Check that the flow indicator moves with the airflow, thus verify-
ing that the airflow is correct for the smoke detector.
It is recommended that you verify that the smoke detector’s fire
alarm works by leading smoke from a smoke generator directly
into the air duct and making sure that the smoke detector trig-
gers an alarm.
CONNECTION
The smoke detector is to be connected into a FICO fire damper
control system FICO PRO or FICO MINI control unit, or a FCBB-2
or FCBB-4 connection box, in accordance with the connection

To avoid induction coupling disturbances, the smoke detector cable
must always be installed separately from the power cables. The
recommended max. length of the cable is 15 m, and the cable
must not exceed 30 m in any circumstance.
PLEASE NOTE: If using a FDKC (UG-3-O) smoke detector connected
to a FICO system, a 2.2 kΩ terminal resistor must always be fitted to
the smoke detector.
CLEANING
The smoke detector may be cleaned using a soft, lint free cloth or
by blowing it using clean compressed air. It is recommended that
you replace extremely dirty smoke detectors
TROUBLESHOOTING
The smoke detector activates an alarm without smoke.
The smoke detector is defective, the sensor chamber is dirty
or there is moisture condensed in it. Clean the detector sensor
chamber according to instructions or replace the extremely dirty
detection component, if necessary.
The FICO control system triggers a service alarm or a fire alarm, al-
though the smoke detector is not triggering one.
Check that there is a terminal resistor fitted to the smoke detec-
tor. If there are multiple detectors in the detection circuit, only
the last smoke detector must be fitted with a terminal resistor.
Check that the detection circuit resistance equals 2.2 kΩ.
Check that the FICO control system smoke detector output is
working by detaching the smoke detector wires and attaching a
2.2 kΩ resistor directly to the smoke detector output.
Use a multimeter to check that the smoke detector pins 1(-) and
2(+) receive a ~18 VDC input voltage. The polarity of the input
voltage matters, so make sure that the wires are connected the
right way around.
