FICO PRO - Operation Guide
GENERAL, PROPERTIES AND FUNCTIONS
1 GENERAL
The monitoring system ISYteq FICO-PRO is designed for monitoring
and testing motorized fire dampers. The system consists of a control
unit FCLB-256 as the main unit, which can directly accommodate the
connection of up to 4 fire dampers and multi-boxes ISYteq FCBB-
2 & FCBB-4. The multi-boxes can control two or four fire dampers
respectively and they are installed close to the fire dampers. The
FCBBs are installed in a suitable location with the system able to
control 256 fire dampers and 128 smoke detectors with individual
status indications. The fire dampers can be divided into multiple groups
with each of them including ventilation interlocking.
- FICO PRO
- FCBB-2
- FCBB-4
The PRO control unit has four internal relay units for the connection of 4
number fire dampers and 2 smoke detectors. Additionally, the PRO has
4 volt-free relays, 3 are assigned by default for the connection of a fire
alarm contact, a service alarm contact and a fan control contact. Digital
inputs of which there are 3 for external test switch, external interlock
or external fire alarm.
The communication with the multi-boxes is via Modbus RTU
communication protocol and must be connected in a daisy chain,
looping in and out from each multi-box after the PRO master device.
The complete system can consist of 1 PRO and up to 63 FCBB multi-
boxes. Care in the design of the system should be taken as the
maximum number of multi-boxes in a single system can not exceed
63 regardless of whether FCBB-2 or FCBB-4 multi-boxes are used.
Manual function control can be performed from the control unit for a
damper group with several different settings: the whole system, group
by group, for a single multi-box or a single damper (Note! Single multi-
box or single damper test can only be performed if the multi-box or
damper have been assigned to an individual group). In addition, a
manual function control can be run using a push button on the multi-
box. The system’s flexibility allows for a system test of dampers or
groups separately, therefore removing the need to shut down the
AHU if required to continue running for a critical application. A built-in
schedule allows for testing of the fire dampers to be carried out at the
most convenient times.
The modular construction of the ISYteq FICO system allows for a
flexible installation and commissioning approach, as the system can
be easily extended with more multi-boxes.
The HMI is a 7-inch colour touchscreen and utilises the ISYteq controls
tile format to display the system and for easy navigation of the system.
Alarm indications are quickly seen and can be easily read for quick
action. A Modbus connection from the FICO PRO can be connected to
the building management system for remote indication of operating
status.
2 PROPERTIES AND FUNCTIONS
FICO PRO - for the control and management of four 24V fire damper
actuators directly connected and the control and management of up to
a further 252 24V damper actuators via the Multi-boxes FCBB-2 and
or FCBB-4. The unit firmware incorporates a calendar for the set-up of
regulated testing.
2.1. Easy to engineer
The control unit contains all essential functions and ensures safe
installation. The system has two data transfer loops to which the
multi boxes are connected in series using, for instance, FQAR-PG
2x0.5 (1 twisted pair) Modbus data transfer cable can be used for the
connection. The maximum length of the cable is 1100 m in each loop.
This makes it easy to connect new multi-boxes to an existing system.
The power supply voltage for the control unit and the multi-boxes is
230 VAC. Each multi-box supplies 24 VAC max. to 2 or 4 dampers.
The maximum number of smoke detectors connected to a multi-box is
two. As part of the installation, the system can be divided into groups.
Each FICO PRO and FCBB multi-box requires a 230VAC connection
using a power cable type such as EQQ 3x1.5 mm2. See the cabling
requirements on page 7.
2.2. Easy to use
The control unit panel has a
7-inch colour touchscreen
display, with LED indicators
on the multi-box control
board, which can be seen
through the clear box cover.
All functions, settings and
readings are accessible
through the menu system.
The settings are protected
with three levels that require passwords. The possibility to read room
status through the multi-box makes monitoring quick and easy.

2.3. Damper testing
Damper function control can be run automatically at set intervals for
the whole installation at the same time. Manual function control can
be run from the control unit or the multi-box. From the control unit, you
can select testing of the whole system, a group, a single multi-box, or a
single fire damper if these have been assigned to their own group.
3 AUTOMATION SYSTEM
The FICO PRO control unit can be connected to a building automation
system through a Modbus protocol connection. This makes it possible
to monitor the FICO’s functions, e.g., damper status, smoke detector
status, and fire and service alarms.
3.1. External inputs and outputs
- Fire alarm output
- Service alarm output
- External fire alarm input
- External interlock input, enabling damper closing without alarm.
- Built-in data transfer via Modbus as standard.
- Fan/AHU control outputs
- External damper test
- External reset inputs
3.2. Service mode
Single multi-boxes can be set to service mode to facilitate repair
work on rooms or ventilation or ventilation extension work. In this
mode, the multi-box is not activated. After a set time the multi-box will
automatically return to an activated state.
3.3. Fan interlocking relay
Standard delivery includes four built-in relays in the ISYteq FICO PRO,
further relays to extend the system for controlling ventilation equipment
groups are possible with the use of the FCIO-88 which has 8 relay
outputs. The system can be extended to handle up to 63 multi-boxes
and a total of 256 fire dampers. The whole system (256 fire dampers)
can be contained in a single group. In the event of a fire alarm being
triggered all dampers automatically close, and a signal to the AHU can
be sent to shut down or operate certain extract functions alongside or
separate to smoke extract fan/s.

assigned to an individual custom group first.
5.1.2 Manual test dampers
It is possible to carry out a manual test of all dampers, and groups of
dampers. For a group of dampers to be tested, the group must have
been created either during the set-up process or before you require
a set number of dampers to be tested as a group (see the FICO PRO
operation manual for further details of how to set up groups of dampers.
Dampers can be manually tested by pushing the test button on a multi-
box PCB. In this case, all the dampers connected to a particular multi-
box will be tested instantly and simultaneously.
The other way of a manual damper test is to execute it from the HMI of
FICO PRO. It is possible to test fire dampers manually one fire damper
group at a time.
1. Select ‘Groups’ tile from the home view.
2. Select a group to be manually tested.
3. Select ‘Test group’ to start damper testing.
