Take the tailfin from Stage 32 and smooth with
sandpaper. Take the leading edge from Stage 105
and put it up against the tailfin. The leading edge
has internal reinforcements that help fix it to the fin.
Mark out and cut slots in the tailfin that correspond
to the reinforcements (see arrows, above). With a
flat file, sand down the slots in the tailfin that you
have made for the leading edge.

Glue the leading edges to the tailfin and the
horizontal stabilisers. Then glue the stabilisers
onto each side of the fin at a 90° angle. Make sure
that the ends of the leading edges are flush with
the ends of the fin and stabilisers (dotted lines).

Take the stabilisers and the edges that were
provided with Stages 33, 34 and 105. Mark, cut
and file the slots, in the same way as the tailfin,
so that the edges fit, as shown in the picture.

Fit the leading edge on the tailfin. Push the tailfin
into the fuselage to check that it fits. When in
place, the fin edge should be approximately
1mm above the top of the fuselage. If necessary,
file down the lower edge of the tailfin to bring it
to the correct level.
Take 2 x 5mm wooden strips provided in previous
stages. Cut them to size and glue them onto the
stabilisers, as shown in the photo. Do the same on
the underside of the stabilisers (inset). Remember
that the pieces should be symmetrical, so do the
same on each side of the tailfin.

Glue wooden strips onto both sides of the tailfin,
as shown. The strips will support the plates when
they are put in place.
Take the plate away and glue a wooden strip along the pencil
line, as indicted by the red dotted lines. This strip will support
the plate. Do the same on the stabiliser on the opposite side,
and on the underside of both (see inset photo).
Take the tail plate from Stage 110, and position
it on the stabiliser, as shown in the photo. With a
pencil, draw along the inside edge of the plate on
the stabiliser (see dotted line).

File down the wooden strips where they meet the leading
edges of the stabiliser and tailfin. When the plate
is put in place, it should be level with the leading edge.

Take the tail rudder from Stage 40 and the trailing
edges from Stages 105, 106 and 107. As in Stage
111, cut and file the slots and glue the edges to the
rudder. Cut out the piece of rudder shown in the
inset picture, once the edges are glued and dry.
Cut 2 x 5mm wooden strips and glue them on
both sides of the rudder, at the points indicated
in the photo.

File all the wooden strips reinforcing the rudder
so that they are level with the trailing edge. Glue
one of the plates from the previous step onto
each side of the rudder and finish the edges (see
inset picture) with a file. Pay particular attention
to ensure that the top edge is straight (see red
dotted lines).

Find the plates for the rudder and the template
that came with Stage 111. Score the lines
following the template, and remember that the
two pieces must be symmetrical.

With a round file, make sure that the circular hole at
the front of the rudder is clear. Take the red LED and
make sure it fits into the hole in the rudder. Ensure
the LED is flush with the hole in the trailing edge.

Place the fuselage on a flat surface so that it is
steady. Take the tail unit made in the previous
stage and place it on the fuselage. Make sure it is
properly aligned and centred.

Cut small wood strips and glue them in place to
support the fin and the rear stabilisers. Make sure
all the strips are level with a file or sandpaper.
Retrieve the tailfin plates and template from Stage
111. Score patterns on both plates, making sure
they are symmetrical. Apply glue and stick on.
Sand the back of the fin and the fuselage to
ensure they are the same thickness.
Put the rudder in place against the tail to see how
these two pieces fit together. There should be a
smooth curve at the front (dotted line).
The fuselage, tailfin, stabilisers and rudder
should now look like this. Store any unused
parts to one side.

Take the fret board that came with Stage 42. This
will form the rear of the pilot’s seat. Remove the
parts and sand them smooth, then assemble and
glue them as in the picture.
Take the cockpit floor and the joystick from Stages
35 and 41. Sand them carefully, then check that
the joystick fits into the hole in the floor, as shown
in the photo. Do not glue it in place.

Take the engine wiring panel and paint in grey
(RAL 7016 or Humbrol 32). Then highlight the
elements shown in the picture with matt green,
black, red and yellow paint.

When they are completely dry, take the inside
panels of the cockpit and paint them matt green
(RAL 6003 or Humbrol 78). Apply light coats and
allow plenty of time to dry. Then highlight the
details in black, red and grey, as shown in the
picture, to make them stand out.

If you are painting your model, apply a thin, even
coat of primer on the parts from Steps 1 and
2. Also apply primer to the inside panels of the
cockpit and the engine wiring panel. Put them to
one side to dry. If you are not painting your model,
go straight to Stage 114.

Find the engine block that was painted in Stage
105. With a fine brush and using the technique
of dry brushing (removing excess paint from the
brush with a paper towel), highlight the cables in
yellow and red.

Take the cylinder head covers (parts 1) and paint
them silver. Then glue them in place on the
engine, as shown (dotted lines).

Paint the cockpit floor and seat rear grey, and the
joystick matt green. Highlight the joystick tubes in
black and handle details in yellow.

Find the pilot’s seat and glue it to the seat rear that
has just been painted.

Find the dashboard from Stage 1 and instrument
panel from Stage 87. Paint the metal pieces black
and matt green, with the rudder pedals in silver.
Then cut out the instrument panel and stick it
carefully behind the metal panel.

Find the tailplane elevators from Stages 35 and 36,
and the trailing edges from Stages 106 and 107.
Sand the edges, cut the slots in the elevators and
glue the edges on. Stick 2 x 5mm strips on both
sides of the elevator, as in the photo.
Take the aluminium tail plates provided with
Stages 108, 110, 112 and 114 . Score the plates
as on the template (Stage 114). Each elevator
needs two plates (shown above), top and bottom.

Find the hinges that were included with Stage 40
and insert one into each slot on the elevator. For
added strength apply quick-setting glue. Do the
same on the other elevator.

Using the same method as used for the rudder, use
a knife to make the slits for the hinges. The dotted
red lines show where the slits should be made.

File down the reinforcing strips, as with
previous pieces, to ensure that the aluminium
plates go on evenly. Glue the plates to both
sides of the elevators. Paint any exposed
wooden edges in silver.

On a level surface, place one of the elevators in
position to make sure that it fits. Ensure a perfect
fit by making adjustments with a sanding block
(see inset picture). Make a pencil mark to show the
position of the hinges on the stabiliser.

With a sharp knife, make slits along the pencil
marks for fixing the hinges. The points are
indicated above by the dotted lines.
Do the same on the other side of the tailfin with the other elevator,
fitting its hinges into the other stabiliser.
Insert the elevator’s hinges into the stabiliser.
The elevator should not be glued, but should
move freely on the hinges.

Take two hinges and put them in place in the rudder assembled
in Stage 112. Make slots in the tailfin with a knife (arrows), and
insert the hinges into the tailfin. Note that the rudder should not
be glued in place.
