5 Delivery
5.1 Scope of supply
The outdoor vehicle is normally shipped fully assembled and
fitted to the personal requirements of the respective user.
The scope of delivery includes:
Adapted outdoor vehicle with main components
Battery charger
Charging cable for external charging of the battery pack
Cover cap
Tool kit
Instructions for Use
The basic settings are based on the indications on the order
form and, to the extent required, are adapted to the chosen
manual wheelchair by the specialist dealer directly on site.
Before operating the product for the first time, all standard
equipment components (see Fig.1) must be checked for
completeness and possible damage.
5.2 Storage
5.2.1 During Daily Use
The product should always be protected against external
influences.
The control unit must be turned off.
5.2.2 For Extended Disuse
Please observe the following if the product is not used for
more than 3 days:
Storage Conditions
Maintain an ambient temperature between -10°C and
+40°C and relative humidity between 45 and 85 %.
Store the product in a dry, enclosed room with sufficient
air circulation and protection from external influences.
Avoid unnecessary parking outdoors.
Protect the crawler tracks against ground frost, e.g. by
elevating them completely off the ground using
assembly blocks or wooden boards.
Notes on the Crawler Tracks
If the product is not moved for several days, permanent
colour changes may occur where it comes into contact
with the surface it is standing on. Therefore a suitable
underlay should be used if the product is parked for
extended periods of time.
The crawler tracks contain chemical substances that
may react with other chemical substances (e.g. clean
ing agents, acids).
Direct exposure to sunlight/UV radiation causes the
crawler tracks to age more quickly. As a result, the tread
surface hardens and corner pieces break out of the
tread.
12 | Ottobock ScoutCrawler
Delivery
Ottobock | 13ScoutCrawler
The crawler tracks must be replaced at a tread depth of
3 mm in order to maintain sufficient traction. Regardless
of wear, the crawler tracks should be replaced every 2
years.
6 Preparation for Use
6.1 Safety Instructions

Ensure that body parts, such as hands or head, are
never in the danger zone.
Perform the work with the aid of a helper for support.
CAUTION
Unsecured screw connections
Risk of pinching, crushing, tipping over, falling of user
After all adjusting/readjusting work, retighten the
mounting screws/nuts firmly. Observe any torque set
tings which may be specified.
Any time you loosen a screw connection with thread
lock, replace it with a new screw connection or secure
the old screw connection with medium strength thread
locker (e.g. Loctite 241
®
).

Preparation for Use
14 | Ottobock ScoutCrawler
6.3 Adjustments
6.3.1 Prerequisites
Adjustment tasks should always be performed in the pres
ence of the user. The user should sit upright in the wheel
chair while adjustments are made, and should check the
settings several times.
The control panel mounting side (left/right) is realised
according to the customer order and may only be changed
by authorised personnel instructed by Ottobock.
The following can be adjusted by the user or attendant:
Position of the stops
Height of the armrests
Position of the armrests
Position of the control panel
All parts of the product should be cleaned thoroughly before
adjustments are made.
6.3.2 Adjusting the Stops
The position of the rear wheel stops can be adjusted. The
stops are adjusted using two quick-release clamping levers
and an Allen head screw (Allen key, size5). Follow the
instructions below to adjust the stops:
1) Loosen the Allen head screw (see Fig.2).
2) Loosen the two quick-release clamping levers.
Now the stops can be moved vertically and horizont
ally.

approximately 2cm below the knee lever wheel
lock, ensuring that the knee lever wheel lock can be
operated with no restrictions.
4) Tighten the two quick-release clamping levers.
5) Tighten the Allen head screw.
INFORMATION: If the adjustment range of the
stops is insufficient to hold the manual wheelchair
securely, the Allen head screw can be omitted dur
ing assembly (only for very wide manual wheel
chairs!).
Adjusting the stop position is complete.
INFORMATION: The stops on the left and right side
must be locked at the same height.

6.3.5 Changing Control Unit Parameters
WARNING
Incorrect configuration settings
Falling, tipping over, collision due to programming errors
Programming may only be performed by qualified per
sonnel trained by the manufacturer. The manufacturer
of the product and the control unit manufacturer are
not liable in case of damage caused by programming
which was not performed properly and/or which was
not adjusted properly according to the user's abilities.
Note that modified parameter settings in the configura
tion can lead to changes in driving characteristics. In
particular, changes to the speed, acceleration, braking
or joystick settings can lead to unexpected and there
fore uncontrollable driving characteristics and cause
an accident.
Preparation for Use
Ottobock | 17ScoutCrawler
After configuration/programming is complete, the user
must test the driving characteristics of the product
under the supervision of the qualified personnel.
If necessary, the authorised personnel can adapt the pre
programmed control unit and accessories to the concrete
requirements of the user.
7 Usage
7.1 Combining the Wheelchair and
ScoutCrawler
CAUTION
Driving on the ramps
Risk of falling, tipping over

3) Lower the loading ramps of the outdoor vehicle using
the pull cables. Engage the hooks of the pull cables in
the transport cases.
4) Drive the manual wheelchair over the loading ramps
onto the platform of the outdoor vehicle.
NOTICE! All four wheels of the wheelchair must
stand firmly on the platform.
5) Move the wheelchair to the stops and engage the knee
lever wheel lock.
6) Pass the carabiners on the two lateral belt straps over
the tyre stops and around the push rings (see Fig.6,
item1) and engage them in the eyelets (see Fig.7,
item1 and item2).
7) Hand-tighten the lateral belt straps (see Fig.8).
8) Pass the centre belt strap around the frame in front of
the caster wheel and engage it in the eyelet (see Fig.9,
item1 and item2).
9) Hand-tighten the belt strap (see Fig.10).
10) Fold up the loading ramps with the help of the pull
cables. Pass the pull cables around the armrest sup

7.2 Control Unit
CAUTION
Use of mobile devices with electromagnetic emis
sions (e.g. mobile phones)
Falling, collision with persons or objects due to interfer
ence with the control signals
Turn all mobile devices off while driving, since the driv
ing characteristics of the product are affected by elec
tromagnetic fields.
Turn the control unit off when it is not required, since
the product may generate electromagnetic fields that
can cause interference with other devices. The product
has been tested according to EMC regulations.
Usage
20 | Ottobock ScoutCrawler
The outdoor vehicle is controlled by an enAble40 control
unit.
Since the control unit is programmable, it can be adapted to
the personal requirements of the user; e.g. the speed,
acceleration and deceleration values can all be adapted.
7.2.1 Control Panel
The outdoor vehicle is operated via the control panel.
The control panel consists of a keypad, LCD display and
joystick. The charging and programming receptacle is loc
ated on the underside.
The control panel is used to switch the outdoor vehicle on
and off, to enter driving commands and to display the cur
rent state of certain functions and components.
