STATUTORY REGULA-
TIONS
Observe the applicable laws and traffic
regulations when driving on roads and
never drive without the side parts!
A driving licence is generally not re-
quired for driving an electronic wheel-
chair.
A liability insurance is only mandatory (in
Germany) for a wheelchair with a
speed in excess of 6 km/h but is never-
theless recommendable. The insurance
sign must be fixed to the rear of the ve-
hicle. Securing holes are usually al-
ready available.
In addition to the liability insurance,
wheelchairs with speeds exceeding
6km/h also require (in Germany) a ve-
hicle approval.
The necessary appraisal report will be
supplied to you with the wheelchair.
The application for the vehicle approval
is dependent on the respective vehicle
registration centre.
You usually only need to post the ap-
praisal report to your local vehicle reg-
istration centre in order to apply for the
vehicle approval for your electronic
wheelchair. You will then be sent the
stamped vehicle approval. You must al-
ways have the vehicle approval with
you when driving on public roads.

If drive mode is switched off (brake re-
lease lever in the "push" position) the
wheelchair cannot be operated and
braked via the joystick! In this event, use
the brake release lever (shift to the
"drive" position). – Danger of acci-
dents!
!
Attention:
Please observe the Safety Instruc-
tions!
Although the wheelchair conforms with
the statutory EMV regulations, it can
cause unintentional interference noise if
operated in the vicinity of sensitive elec-
tronic equipment (e.g. buzzing, hum-
ming).
The wheelchair can also interfere with
electromagnetic fields, e.g. such as
those emitted by shop anti-theft systems.
!
Attention:
Mobile telephones and other radio
equipment should only be used when
the wheelchair is stationary (control
box switched off) for reasons of safe-
ty.
Braking the wheelchair
The wheelchair stops when you let go of
the joystick. Always ensure an adequate
braking distance when applying the
wheelchair brakes.
Remark:
Depending on the nature of the driving
surface and speed, the shortest braking
distance is:
approx. 1 m for the 6 km/h version
andmin. of 1.5 m for the 10 km/h ver-
sion.
For this reason, ensure that you brake
the wheelchair in good time when you
encounter other people or obstacles.
!
Attention:
Braking the wheelchair when
traveling downhill at high speed can
cause it to skid. – Danger of acci-
dents!
When traveling downhill, select a
low speed!
Avoid jerky adjustments to driving
status when negotiating hills, trans-
verse slopes and obstacles.
Especially avoid tight turning and
jerky braking on inclines with critical-
ly set driving parameters.– Danger
of overturning!
Before performing maintenance
work, dismantling/mounting parts or
adjusting the settings on the wheel-
chair, push the brake release lever
to the "drive" position and switch off
the control box! – Accident risk re-
sulting from inadvertent movement of
the wheelchair!
DRIVING BEHAVIOR
Drive especially carefully during your
first journey!!
Bearing this in mind, set the pre-selecta-
ble final speed to the lowest setting.
Press the minus key [24] on the key field
of the control box (see 'Pre-operation
Checks').
!
Attention:
Please observe the Safety Instruc-
tions!
You determine the speed and driving
direction yourself when driving through
the movement of the joystick [35] and
the maximum top speed setting of your
wheelchair.
When reversing with the joystick leaning
to the left, your wheelchair makes a
right turn.
A reversal of the steering direction is,
with certain manoeverabiltiy restrictions,
possible by reprogramming..
Negotiating curbs
Curbs can be negotiated with the
detachable curb aid Code 862.
Please observe the operating man-
ual which is supplied with Code
862.
6
BRAKE RELEASE LEVER
Locking the brake
Push the brake release lever (11) for-
ward as far as it will go, (Fig. 3).
!
Attention:
It is impossible to push the wheelchair
when in drive mode.
The brake performance decreases
when:
– the brake pads are worn.
If the wheelchair demonstrates an une-
ven or impaired braking effect, take it
immediately to your specialist workshop
for repair.
Releasing the brake
Pull the knob on the brake release lever
and pull the brake release lever back
as far as it will go (Fig. 4).
!
Attention:
Do not get into/out of the wheelchair
unless it is switched off and the selec-
tion lever has been set to drive
mode.
Inadvertently knocking the control le-
ver (35) will set the wheelchair in
motion without control! – Danger of
accidents!
BRAKES
The brakes are one of the most impor-
tant safety features of a wheelchair.
The SPRINT GT model 2.593 is
equipped with two independently-work-
ing braking systems as a standard fea-
ture.
1. The motor brake:
An electronic service brake which
brakes the wheelchair gently without
jerking.
2. The safety magnetic brakes:
These are used only when the wheel-
chair is stationary. They are activated
by way of the selection lever for
drive/push mode. At the same time,
they guarantee the automatic brak-
ing of the wheelchair in the event of a
power failure.
You switch the safety magnetic brakes
from the drive mode to the push mode
with the brake release lever located at
the side of the wheelchair!– Also ob-
serve the signs affixed to the left and
right of the brake release lever.
!
Attention:
Danger of crushing between the
drive wheel and frame.
The safety magnetic brakes are im-
mediately fully effective after the
brake release lever is pushed into
the 'drive mode' position. – Control-
led braking is not possible!
Please observe the Safety Instruc-
tions!
PREPARING THE
WHEELCHAIR FOR
OPERATION
Follow the instructions below in the stat-
ed order.
1. Shift to drive mode.
Push the brake release lever (11)
forward as far as it will go, (Fig. 3).
!
Attention:
Do not switch to push mode when the
wheelchair is in operation!
2. Insert the battery fuse (main
fuse)
Blade-type fuse:
The blade-type main power fuse is
located in the fuse holder under the
seat (A, Fig. 5).
3. Position of the control box
The control box should be positioned
in such a way that you can comforta-
bly and safely steer the wheelchair.
Longitudinal adjustment:
Loosen adjustment screw (A, Fig. 6).
Height adjustment
The height of the control box is adjust-
ed with the adjusting screw (B, Fig.
6) (see also 'Armrests' section).
Do not forget to
tighten the adjusting screw again.
7
4. Insert drive key
Insert the drive key [28] in the drive
key socket (Fig. 38). The control box
is deactivated when the drive key is
removed. This secures the wheel-
chair against unauthorised use!
!
Attention:
Do not insert any object other than
the drive key into the drive key sock-
et. – Danger of short circuit!
Remark:
Always remove the drive key after
you have switched off the wheel-
chair with the ON/OFF key (Fig.
39) in order to prevent a battery
discharge (e.g. through leakage
currents which can result in battery
damage!
If the drive key is removed during
motion, the wheelchair will contin-
ue to travel until the joystick is re-
turned to the zero position.
– The wheelchair switches off auto-
matically when the joystick remains
in the zero position (centre posi-
tion) for more than 2 seconds after
the drive key has been removed.
5. Switch on control box
Press the ON/OFF key [34] on the
key field of the control panel (Fig. 7).
The LED of the pre-selected speed
[27] will go on (Fig. 8).
The LCD indication [39] will appear
on LCD control boxes.
(see 'Control box' section).
Remark:
Only transfer to and from the
wheelchair when the wheelchair is
switched off and the brake release
lever has been placed into the for-
ward position!
– Inadvertently knocking the control
lever [35] will set the wheelchair
in motion without control! – Danger
of accidents!
Do not move the joystick until the
self-test of the electronics has end-
ed!
– The signalling bar [41] (Fig. 9),
respectively, the malfunction indi-
cation [37] (Fig. 8) will stop blink-
ing after switch-on.
6. Check before drive start:
the battery charge level and
the pre-selected top speed setting.
(See 'Pre-operation checks' and 'con-
trol box' sections!).
8
PRE-OPERATION
CHECKS
A self-test (approx. 2 sec.) occurs imme-
diately after the control box has been
switched on (press the ON/OFF key).
The warning indication [29] (Fig. 8),
respectively, the signalling bar [41]
(Fig.9) blinks.
The warning indication [29] (Fig. 8)
blinks when the hazard warning light is
switched on and in the case of malfunc-
tion (see 'Fault clearance' part of 'Serv-
ice' section').
The symbol for 'push mode' [37] (Fig.
8) goes on when the push mode is acti-
vated.
BATTERY CHARGING STATUS
After switch-on, the battery indication
[30] (Fig. 8) shows the battery charge
state.
LED control box
Battery indication:
no LED on, – ready to drive, batter-
ies charged.
permanent yellow light, – middle to
low battery charge (working range).
permanent yellow and red light,
– low to no battery charge. – Re-
charge batteries!
permanent red light, – batteries dis-
charged, voltage dropped to 21 V.
– Recharge batteries as soon as pos-
sible!
blinking red light, – batteries fully dis-
charged, voltage dropped to less
than 20.5 V.– Recharge batteries
immediately.
LCD control box
After the control box has been switched
on (press the ON/OFF key), the battery
symbol [30] on the LCD display (Fig. 9)
shows the battery charge state.
The value shown depends on the ambi-
ent temperature, the age of the battery
and the type of load. It should therefore
only be taken as an approximate value.
If doubt exists, the daily kilometre indi-
cation should also be considered for a
better estimation of the remaining re-
serve.
The kilometric performance (range) of
the wheelchair should be tested at least
once.
The daily kilometre indication should be
set to zero after each charging process
to aid the kilometric performance esti-
mation.
You can derive a very useful estimation
of the remaining driving capacity [km]
by comparing the distance you have al-
ready driven (according to the daily kil-
ometre indication) with the average sum
of the driven distances [km] you previ-
ously covered before the symbol for 5%
battery capacity started blinking.
Battery symbols and meaning
of LCD indications
fully charged

PRE-OPERATION
CHECKS
PRE-SELECTION OF FINAL
SPEED
The pre-selectable top speed can be set
with the
- and - keys after the
control box has been switched on (by
pressing the ON/OFF key).
!
Attention:
Adapt and reduce speed when
traveling up or downhill in accord-
ance with gradient. However, never
exceed the permitted top speed (6
or 10 km/h depending on version).
– Danger of accidents!
Have you selected an appro-
priate maximum final speed?
The maximum final speed should reflect
the given conditions.
!
Attention:
Risk of accident by the selection of an
inappropriate maximum final speed
setting!
Always select a low final speed in
driving situations which you do not
feel comfortable with (e.g. opera-
tion in confined spaces or traveling
uphill on ramps etc.).
2. Situation:
Crossing a road junction.
Necessary setting: high maximum
speed
Incorrect setting:
Low maximum speed
Consequence:
The wheelchair does not cross the junc-
tion quickly enough.
Accident risk due to oncoming
vehicles!
Top-speed indication on LED
control box (Fig. 10)
The top speed has a default setting of
100% after the control box has been
switched on (by pressing the ON/OFF
key [34] (Fig. 10).
The top speed can be set to one of 4
levels (each 25%) with the
- and
- keys (also whilst driving).
The lit LED indicates the selected top
speed.
Level: (pre-selection indication)
= 100% (maximum top speed)
= 75% (almost max. top speed)
= 50% (top speed reduced to
one-half)
= 25% (greatly reduced top
speed) – not selectable!
Have you selected an appro-
priate maximum final speed?
Risk of accident by the selection of an
inappropriate maximum final speed set-
ting!
Always select a low final speed in driv-
ing situations which you do not feel com-
fortable with (e.g. operation in confined
spaces or traveling uphill on ramps
etc.).
This can be highlighted by two exam-
ples:
1. Situation:
Use in the home.
Necessary setting: low maximum speed
Incorrect setting:
High maximum speed
Consequence:
Small movements of the joystick cause
the wheelchair to set off at speed.
The operator loses control in the con-
fined space of the home. – Danger of
accidents!
10

justments or special control options, in-
cludes a 'daily kilometre counter', a
speed indicator and a 3-digit LCD com-
bination lock used as a programmable
anti-theft device (see relevant section).
JOYSTICK
You determine the speed and direction
of travel while in motion by activating
the joystick [35], (Fig. 12).
Do not move the joystick out of the zero
position before the self-test has ended. –
The warning LED [29] Fig. 8, respec-
tively, the signalling bar [41] (Fig. 9) no
longer blinks. See 'Fault clearance' part
of 'Service' section if blinking continues.
Forward motion
Push the lever forwards until you attain
the desired speed.
The wheelchair will move off slowly or
quickly when you activate the joystick,
depending on the maximum speed set-
ting.
Reverse motion

Slacken the adjusting screw (A, Fig. 6)
and pull/push the control box [13] to
the desired position (marking indicates
max. point).
Removal:
Slacken the adjusting screw (A, Fig. 6)
and pull the control box [13] forwards
out of the guide.
!
Attention:
Operation of the wheelchair after
removing the control box is only per-
mitted when the therapy table is be-
ing lowered and raised! – Danger of
accidents!
Height adjustment
The height of the control box can be
adjusted after the adjusting screw (B Fig.
6) has been slackened (see 'Armrests'
section).
Braking to a standstill
Controlled braking:
Move the lever back towards the neu-
tral position in accordance with the re-
quired degree of braking.
Emergency braking:
Release the lever and allow it click back
into the neutral position of its own ac-
cord. – The wheelchair will then brake
over the shortest possible distance.
When carrying out this braking manoeu-
vre, take into account a braking dis-
tance of
approx. 1.0 m for 6 km/h version and
approx. 1.5 m for 10 km/h version!
This standard value may differ, de-
pending on the condition of the tyres, the
overall weight of the wheelchair and
the condition of the road surface.
Turning to the left and right
Move the lever to the left or right in
accordance with the desired turning ra-
dius
Remark:
The smaller the turning radius the
higher the reduction in speed.
