FOREWORD

We thank you for the confidence you

have placed in our company by choos-

ing an electric wheelchair from this

series.

The electric wheelchair can be adapt-

ed to your individual needs by way of

the equipment variants and the acces-

sories.

Like any other vehicle, an electric

wheelchair is a technical aid.It is sub-

ject to explanations, requires regular

care and can cause danger when used

improperly. The correct handling must

therefore be learned.

Read and observe this manual to-

gether with the operating manu-

al < Operating module > as well as

the brochure < Safety instructions

electronic-vehicles > before first

use.

They are intended to help you in the

handling of the wheelchair and to pre-

vent accidents.

Children should read this operating

manual, the operating manual < Op-

erating module > and the < Safety

information dor electric vehicles > bro-

chure together with the parents or a

supervising/accompanying person be-

fore the first use of the electric wheel-

chair.

equipment variants can deviate

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

Please comply with the legal require-

ments of the country in which the

wheelchair is used.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR

GERMANY

Electric wheelchairs 6 km/h

A driving licence is not required for

electric wheelchairs with a top speed

of 6 km/h. Pavements may only be

driven on at walking speed. A liabili-

ty insurance is not mandatory but rec-

ommendable. The minimum age for

driving this vehicle is 15 years. An ex-

emption certificate for younger per-

sons can be applied for at the relevant

administrative authority.

HANDLING THE

WHEELCHAIR

USE

The electric wheelchair, with attached

legrests and armrests, serves exclusi-

vely for the conveyance of one sitting

person. Other pulling or transporting

uses do not comply with its intended

purpose.

This model is a wheelchair which is

intended for use indoors and outdoors

on a firm driving surface. It is assigned

to the user class B according to the

norm EN12184. Before use on outdoor

public routes the electronic wheelchair

is to be fit with an optionally availa-

ble lighting jig.

Depending on the foot plate height

adjustment it can cross obstacles with

a max. height of 50 mm.

Higher obstacles up to 110 mm high

can be crossed with a “step climber”.

TIPS FOR ACCIDENT PRE-

VENTION

First driving exercises

A low maximum speed must be pre-

selected on the control unit for the

initial driving practice. Make yourself

familiar with the driving behaviour of

the electric wheelchair in small steps.

The electric wheelchair should not be

used outside of the familiar environ-

ment or on public highways before

you have a safe control of the vehicle.

Driving in street traffic

The Highway Code must be complied

with when driving on public high-

ways. Before starting to drive the re-

quired lighting jig is to be checked for

function. Carry out a short braking and

steering test after the start of motion

at a very low speed.

Safety informations

▲ Do not press the ON/OFF key whilst

still in motion. Pressing the key will

then switch off the electric wheel-

chair and cause it to stop immedi-

ately.

▲ A danger of tipping over always

exists when driving with a backrest

reclined to the rear or a seat raised

at the front backrest reclined to the

rear or a seat raised at the front.

▲ Before driving outdoors the seat is

to be brought into the basic set-

ting.

▲ Do not adjust the seat or backrest

angle on rising/falling gradients. –

Danger of overturning!

▲ The attachment/detachment of ac-

cessories/components alters the

driving behaviour.

▲ Tyres are made of a rubber mixture

and can leave permanent or diffi-

cult-to-remove marks on some sur-

faces (e.g. plastic, wooden or par-

quet flooring, carpets, mats).

▲ An exposure to high temperatures

from lamps, the sun or other heat

or light sources can damage the

upholstery. Protect the upholstery

with a cover and/or park the wheel-

chair in a protected area.

▲ Never expose the electric wheel-

chair to extreme weather condi-

tions.

CE regulations

☞ Note:

The technology of this electric

wheelchair complies with the re-

quirements of the EEC 93/42 direc-

tive on electromagnetic compati-

bility. However, the possibility of

interference from high-frequency

radiation from other electrical

equipment cannot be excluded.

High-frequency radiation exists in the

proximity of, for example, radar and

broadcasting stations, all types of ra-

dio sets and radio telephones. Stop the

electric wheelchair immediately and

switch off the control unit if the

wheelchair reacts uncontrollably or

causes interference to other electron-

ic devices.

The connection of other electrical de-

vices can also cause malfunctions.

Attention:

Never operate a wheelchair with an

electric drive in the proximity of

medical diagnostic equipment or

electrical/electronic medical equip-

ment with high danger potential

and/or life-maintaining functions.

Functional checks

The functions and safety of the elec-

tric wheelchair must be checked be-

fore the start of each journey.

• The frame, cables and the batter-

ies should be checked for damage

after a collision with an obstacle. -

Have any visually identified dam-

age repaired immediately by an

authorised workshop.

Selecting the push mode

1. Switch off the operating module

because the pushing will otherwise

be made difficult by the electric

system.

2. Pull the locking sleeve (fig. 4/

➀)

up and then push the selection le-

ver to the rear (fig. 5).

☞ The wheelchair can now be pushed.

Selecting the motor mode

1. Push the selection lever to the front

(fig. 4) until it audibly latches.

2. Switching the operating module

on. The vehicle is now ready for

driving again.

DRIVE-/PUSH MODE

The lever (fig. 3/ ➀) for switching the

drive motors between the drive mode

and push mode is located on the right

side of the wheelchair (optional: le-

ver on the left side).

Attention:

Push the wheelchair only for ma-

noeuvring or in emergency cases

but never on gradients.

The electric magnetic brakes are

switched off in the push mode. A

braking of the wheelchair is then

only possible by switching to the

drive mode. Therefore do not

switch to the push mode on gradi-

ents.

Batteries should only be charged with

a battery charger that is suitable for

the type and rating of the batteries.

The guarantee is only preserved to its

full extent when the supplied and rec-

ommended battery charger is used.

Your authorised dealer will be pleased

to help you choose the correct battery

charger.

Charge the batteries:

– before long tours,

– after a long journey,

– whenever the use permits.

Attention:

• Avoid sparking by static electricity

(e.g. caused by synthetic flooring

or use of the vehicle during the

charging process).

• Observe the contents of the oper-

ating manual for the battery charg-

er.

Recharging batteries

The batteries should be charged im-

mediately after the daily use in order

to have the full driving distance avail-

able on the next day.

Every battery has a normal “self-dis-

charge”. The batteries should be re-

charged once a month when the elec-

tric wheelchair is not used for a long

period of time. The batteries should

be recharged once a month when the

electric wheelchair is not used for a

long period of time.

SELECTING THE OPERATION

Attention:

The functions and safety of the

electric wheelchair must be

checked before the start of each

journey.

1. Charge the batteries via the oper-

ating module before the first jour-

ney.

– Fig. 6 shows the operating module

with plugged-in battery charger

plug.

2. Move the drive motors to the drive

mode position. Push the selection

lever to the front (fig. 7/

➀) until

it audibly latches.

☞ Note:

The key function enables you to

secure the wheelchair against un-

authorised use.

DRIVING BEHAVIOR

You determine the speed and the trav-

el direction through the movement of

the joystick (fig. 10/

➀) and the pre-

selected maximum speed of your

wheelchair.

Attention:

Drive especially carefully during

your first journey!

Do this by setting the pre-selected

speed to the lowest level.

– Do not switch off the operating

module whilst still in motion. A

switch-off will then cause an abrupt

braking of the wheelchair.

– Comply with the max. permitted

rising gradient value specified in

the < Technical data > section.

– Start off slowly. Carry out a short

braking and steering test after

starting off.

– Avoid jerky adjustments to driving

status when negotiating hills, trans-

verse slopes and obstacles.

– Always switch off the vehicle and

move the selection lever to the

drive mode position before trans-

ferring into or out of the wheel-

chair! An unintentional operation

of the joystick will otherwise cause

the wheelchair to travel! – Danger

of accidents!

– For safety reasons, never operate a

mobile phone or other transmit-

ting device whilst the wheelchair

is switched on.

Charging procedure

The charging process for gel batteries

takes longer than that for batteries

with liquid electrolyte due to physi-

cal reasons.

1. Switch off the operating module.

The selection lever should be in the

drive mode position.

2. Insert the battery charger plug into

the operating module (fig. 8).

Attention:

Do not insert any objects other

than the battery charger plug into

the battery charging socket. – Dan-

ger of short circuit!

3. Switch on the battery charger, re-

spectively, plug the mains plug of

the battery charger into a conven-

ient mains socket. The battery is

now charging.

The charging process only runs with

an intact battery fuse (fig. 9/

➀)!

It is best to charge the battery over-

night. A full charging of the batteries

takes approximately 8 hours.

4. Disconnect the battery charger

from the mains socket at the end

of the charging process and then

pull the charging plug out of the

operating module.

POSITIONING THE OPERAT-

ING MODULE

The position of the operating module

can be adjusted to suit the individual

size of the user. The control unit can

also be detached for transportation or

storage and can be laid on the seat or

stored separately.

Attention:

Switch off the operating module

before adjusting/removing it.

You will find a detailed description of

the keys and symbols in the operating

manual for < Operating module >.

Horizontal adjustment

Slacken the clamping screw for depth

adjustment (fig. 11/

➀). Move the op-

erating module into the desired posi-

tion. Carefully route the cable when

doing this.

Vertical adjustment

With the optional height adjustable

operating module adapter the oper-

ating module can be adjusted in

height.

Slacken the clamping lever (fig. 12/

➁)

whilst holding the control unit, move

the operating module into the desired

position and then retighten the

clamping lever.

BRAKES

Attention:

Have the brakes repaired immedi-

ately by an authorised dealer if

they work one-sided or if the brak-

ing effect is reduced.

Service brake

The motor works electrically as a driv-

ing brake and decelerates the wheel-

chair softly and jerk-free to a stand-

still.

Parking brake

The parking brakes only work when

the selection lever is in the drive mode

position. They disengage automatical-

ly when the wheelchair starts off. They

are disengaged manually by moving

the selection lever to the push mode

position. Also view chapter < Drive-/

push mode >.

Braking the wheelchair

The wheelchair stops when you let go

of the joystick (fig. 10/

➀).

For allotted braking slowly guide the

joystick back to the home position

(zero-setting). Always ensure an ade-

quate braking distance when applying

the wheelchair brakes.

Attention:

For this reason, ensure that you

brake the wheelchair in good time

when you encounter other people

or obstacles.

Braking distance

The shortest braking distance, depend-

ing on the surface condition and speed

and the wheelchair version, is about

1.0 m at a speed of 6 km/h.

LOADING AND TRANSPOR-

TATION

Safety informations

For the transport in vehicles, you must

leave the wheelchair and sit in a suit-

able seat in the vehicle. – The wheel-

chair is not designed to withstand the

forces which are generated in acci-

dents, which exposes the user to con-

siderable risks.

Transport in vehicles

The following items may be necessary

due to lack of space for the transport

in vehicles.

▲ Remove the legrests.

▲ Remove the operating module.

▲ Remove the armrest units.

▲ Folding over the backrest (fig. 15).

The parts detached for the transport

must be carefully stowed and careful-

ly attached again before the next jour-

ney!

Attention:

Do not use the wheelchair without

attached legrests and armrest units!

Remove the operating module

To remove the control unit, slacken the

clamping screw (fig. 13/

➀). Pull the

operating module to the front.

☞ Note:

☞ Carefully route the cable when

doing this.

Fitting of the operating module

Insert the operating module into its

clamping device. Tighten the clamp-

ing screw (fig. 13/

➀).

Turning the operating module

to the side

With the optional swivel away oper-

ating module adapter the operating

module can be swivelled away to the

side so that it is located parallel to the

armrest (fig. 14). This makes it possi-

ble, for example:

– to drive closer to a table.

– Remove the operating module

more easily.

For normal driving, swivel the oper-

ating module forward again over the

pressure point until it latches into

place.

The wheelchair can be loaded with the

aid of ramps or lifting platforms.

☞ Note:

Observe the chapter < Ramps and

lifting equipment >.

Transport security

Carry out the following steps when the

wheelchair is located in the transport

vehicle:

– Operate parking brakes.

– Check the locking devices of de-

tachable parts, or if necessary re-

move them (e.g. side elements,

armrests) and store them safely and

protected.

– Secure the wheelchair by way of

elasticated straps.

Only affix the elasticated belts to parts

of the car envisaged for this purpose

and to the frame tubes of the wheel-

chair!

To secure the wheelchair, use the front

crossbrace (fig. 16) as well as the loops

at the side (fig. 17).

▲ Do not use the armrests, legrests or

the push bar for lashing the wheel-

chair. Only use permitted fastening

material.

☞ Note:

☞ Suitable fixing points can usually

be found in the car and in the ve-

hicle operating manual.

☞ Before transporting the wheelchair,

ask your car dealer how to secure

it without risk to the existing fix-

tures or other safety fittings!

Attention:

Make sure that the operating mod-

ule is switched off and the selec-

tion lever for the driving motors is

set to driving mode.

Safety informations

☞ Loose object are to be stored se-

curely.

▲ Only approved ramps or lifting

equipments may be used.

Attention:

The loading capacity per ramp or

lifting equipment must be for the

wheelchair:

– greater than 100 kg without driv-

er and

– greater than 250 kg with driver

(fixed ramp)!

Only tested and approved ramps or

lifting platforms intended for

wheelchair loading may be used.

Special safety informations

▲ For safety reasons, the wheelchair

must be unloaded (without bag-

gage and without user) during its

loading into a car or when a split

ramp is used.

▲ Ensure that the wheelchair can roll

back for a short distance (neutral

zone) if forward motion on the

ramp is interrupted or when set-

ting in motion at the bottom of the

ramp.

▲ Cars and vans should be parked on

a level and firm surface with the

handbrake on to prevent them

from rolling away.

▲ Ensure that the ramp cannot slip

at the ground end or at the trans-

port vehicle end.

▲ Ramps should be positioned so as

to leave enough space for wheel-

chair steering correction without

one of the wheels protruding over

the edge of the ramp.

▲ Only use the wheelchair on dry,

clean and undamaged ramps or lift-

ing equipment.

▲ Pre-select the lowest maximum

speed.

RAMPS AND LIFTING

EQUIPMENT

When the wheelchair is loaded with

the help of ramps or lifting platforms,

the following safety instructions are

to be observed:

▲ The brochure < Safety information

for electric vehicles >.

▲ The operating manual for the trans-

port vehicle.

▲ The manufacturer’s information for

the ramp or lifting equipment.

Attention:

The maximum bearing height spec-

ified for the ramp must be greater

than the height ‘h’ from the ground

to the loading surface, e.g. of the

car (fig. 18).

The wheelchair can be driven into the

transport vehicle over ramps with its

own propulsion power (fig. 19 + 20).

☞ Note:

☞ During the process the operating

module has to be guided accord-

ingly.

☞ Do not pull on the connector ca-

ble.

ERGOpor seat element

(Option)

Detaching the ERGOpor seat

element

The seat element is detached by slack-

ening the clamping screws (fig. 23/

➀)

on both sides and pushing the clamps

inwards (fig. 23).

Attaching the ERGOpor seat

element

First press the seat element onto the

frame (fig. 24).

The fixing screws

positioned between the supporting

plates

Then push the clamps (fig. 25/

➃) out-

wards under the frame tubes and

tighten the clamping screws (fig. 25/

➀).

ERGOpor seat cushion

The ERGOpor seat cushion (fig. 26/

➀)

is secured to the seat shell with Velcro

fasteners and can be pulled off.

Attention:

After assembly of the seat unit onto

the chassis check the fixation of the

seat.

COMPONENTS

SEAT

Folding over the seat strap

For cleaning and maintenance work

on the batteries the seatbelt can be

folded over to one side (fig. 21).

1. Pull the back flap off of the seat

strap. – Velcro fastener.

2. Lift the left seat strap rod and fold

it over to the other side (fig. 21/

➀).

Placing the seat strap

To replace the seat strap, press the pins

of the seat strap rod (fig. 21/

➀) as far

as possible into the corresponding

holes of the side frame (fig. 21/

➁).

Adjusting the seat depth

The seat depth can be changed by

moving the backrest to a different

position.

☞ Note:

The adjustment must be carried out

by an authorised workshop.

For this the attachment screws (fig. 22/

➂) are to be removed. Then attach the

backrest holders again at the desired

position with the securing screws.

Subsequently refasten the back flap

underneath the seat strap. – Velcro fas-

tener.

☞ Note:

Hereto observe subchapter < repo-

sitioning the armrest cushion >.

Seat suspension

For optimal sitting comfort the seat

suspension spring (fig. 28/

➀) can be

adjusted according to the desire of the

user.

Attention:

Make sure that the adjustment ring

sits securely before starting to

drive.

– Screw a loose adjustment ring

tight enough, until the pressure of

the seat suspension spring prevents

further loosening.

Adjusting the seat suspension

For adjustment of the seat suspension

the adjustment ring (fig. 29/

➁) is

screwed forward or backward accord-

ingly.

Attention:

The adjustment of the seat suspen-

sion may only be done by an au-

thorised dealership. – The seat sus-

pension spring might be under

extreme pressure.

Seat inclination

The seat inclination can be adjusted

into an angle of 4° to 12° in six steps

(fig. 27).

Attention:

Adjust the seat angle only when the

wheelchair is standing on a level

surface. A danger of tipping over

exists on gradients!

• The mechanical seat-angle adjust-

ment is not linked with an auto-

matic speed reduction function.

• An increased danger of tipping

over exists with a reclined backrest.

Adjustment of seat inclination

Before adjusting the seat inclination

lift the seat slightly. Screw the clam-

ing screw (fig. 28/

➀) on both sides

far outward. Lift or lower the seat up

to the marker, according to the de-

sired seat inclination. Reinsert the

clamping screw on both sides and

tighten.

Attention:

In doing so make sure that the

point of the clamping screw press-

es into the respective indentation.

• Lift the seat maximum to the hole

without mark.

Backrest belt, standard

The standard-back strap is spanned

through the backrest tubes.

The extended back part (fig. 33/

➂) is

velcro strapped underneath the seat

surface.

Backrest belt, adjustable

(Option)

The tension of the strap part (fig. 33/

➁) is adjustable through the velcro

straps.

The adjustable back strap

➀ is attached

to the adjustable strap part

➁ with

velcro straps.

The extended back part (fig. 33/

➂) is

velcro strapped underneath the seat

surface.

Adjusting the tension of the

back strap

After pulling off the back cushion the

tension of the back straps can be ad-

justed through the single straps (fig.

34/

➂).

Attention:

The overlapping of the Velcro fas-

tener has to be at least 10 cm!

The angle of the standard backrest (fig.

30) can be infinitely adjusted between

approx. 0° to 30° (fig. 31/

➀) with the

adjustment screw and the lock nut.

Folding over the backrest

Screw far out the clamping screw (fig.

31/

➁) at both sides. Pull up the back-

rest and then fold it forwards (fig. 32).

Folding up the back

Bring the backrest into the upright

position, then press it fully down and

tighten the clamping screws (fig. 31/

➁).

ARMRESTS

The armrests can be adjusted in height

to suit the needs of the user.

Attention:

Do not use the armrests to lift or

carry the wheelchair.

• Do not drive without the armrests!

Height adjustment

Slacken the clamping screw (fig. 38/

➀), slide the end stop fully up and

lightly tighten the clamping screw

(fig. 38/

➀).

Attention:

Before loosening the clamping

screws (fig. 38/

➀) secure the arm-

rest against falling down with your

hand. – Danger of crushing!

• During the adjustment the maxi-

mum armrest height is reached

when a mark becomes visible

above the receptacle tube.

• Ensure the tight fit of the clamp-

ing screw (fig. 38/

➀) in order to

prevent the armrest from sliding

down.

Height adjustment with height

stopper

(Option)

Slacken the clamping screw (fig. 31/

➀ and ➁) slide the end stop fully up

and lightly tighten the clamping screw

(fig. 39/

➀).

Push the height stopper down to the

stop and tighten the clamping screw

(fig. 39/

➁).

ERGOpor-backrest element

(Option)

Detaching the ERGOpor back-

rest element

Loosen the attachment screws (fig. 35/

➀) and push the clamping tins inward.

Then push the backrest element for-

wards out of the backrest frame (fig.

36).

Attaching the ERGOpor back-

rest element

Press the backrest element, left and

right, onto the backrest frame (fig. 36).

Push the securing screws (fig. 35/

➀)

of the clamps outwards and then

tighten them.

ERGOpor backrest cushion

The ERGOpor backrest cushion (fig. 37/

➁) is secured to the backrest shell with

Velcro fasteners and can be pulled off.

Adjusting the selection lever

After adjustment to a greater seat

width a correction of the selection le-

ver (fig. 43.1/

➀) might be necessary.

Tools:

1 x hexagonal stud wrench WW* 3

– Loosen the clamping screw (fig.

43.1/

➁) and swivel the selection

lever outward or inward as need-

ed.

– To fix the selection lever retighten

the clamping screw (fig. 43.1/

➁).

Attention:

The distance between the clothes

guard and the ball of the selection

lever should be about 3 cm.

– Danger of crushing!

Adjustment is done in connection

with a change of the seat width and

is to be done by an authorised spe-

cialist workshop!

Repositioning the armrest

cushion

Tools:

1 x screw driver

By displacing the armrests the resting

position can be adapted for example

to a changed seat depth.

Remove the armrest

(Fig. 40)

Slacken the clamping screw (fig. 41/

➀) and pull off the armrest upwards.

☞ Note:

The operating module must be re-

moved first if the armrest on the

control side is to be detached.

To remove the control unit, slacken the

clamping screw (fig. 42/

➁).

☞ Note:

Carefully route the cable when

doing this.

Adjustment of seat width

The seat width can be adjusted by a

lateral displacement of the armrests.

Displace both armrests by an equal

distance after slackening the clamping

screw (fig. 43/

➂ ) on both sides.

Attention:

The maximum seat width has been

reached when a marking is visible

on the square tube.

A reduction of the seat width to

less than 43 cm is possible by

switching the two armrests.

The retrofit may only be carried out

by an authorised dealer!

– After removing the countersunk

screws (fig. 44/

➂) the armrest can

be displaced.

Swivelling away the side

The legrests can be swivelled outwards

after the calf strap has been detached

at one side, for an easier transfer to/

from the wheelchair or a closer driv-

ing up to a cupboard, bed or bath (fig.

47).

First lift the locking device (fig. 48/

➀)

and then swivel the legrest outward

(fig. 47).

Attention:

Swivelled-away leg stump supports

are automatically unlocked and can

easily fall off. Note this when han-

dling (e.g. transport).

Do not forget to check the correct

functioning of the respective lock-

ing device (fig. 49/

➀) after having

swivelled in the legrests again.

LEGRESTS

Various legrest models for the wheel-

chair are available. The foot plates can

be folded up.

Attention:

Do not use the legrests to lift or

carry the wheelchair.

• Lift the feet, respectively place

them on the foot plates before each

movement of the wheelchair.

• The operating module is to be

switched off:

– Before placing the feet on the

floor.

– To remove the calf belt and the

legrest.

– Before folding up the footplates.

Calf strap

The calf strap is wrapped around the

left and right legrest and secured with

Velcro fasteners (fig. 45/

➀). Removal

of the calf belt is achieved by open-

ing the velcro straps.

Folding up the foot plates

Take the feet off of the footplates, fold

the footplates up (fig. 46).

Height-adjustable legrests

Removal

Pull up the locking device (fig. 54/

➀).

Swivel out the legrest and then pull it

off in an upward direction.

Fitting of

With the legrest in the swivelled-aside

position, hang it in and then swivel it

to the front until the locking device

audibly latches. - Check for a correct

locking of the locking device!

Adjusting the height of the

foot plate

Slacken the clamping screw (fig. 55/

➁) to adjust the height of the foot

plate.

Telescope the foot plate to the desired

height and then tighten the clamping

screw.

Attention:

The marking (hole) shows the max-

imum extension.

Remove the legrests

Undo the calf strap at one side before

removing the legrests.

Pull up the locking device (fig. 50/

➀)

swivel out the legrest and then pull it

off in an upward direction (fig. 51).

Attaching the legrests

With the legrest in a swivelled-aside

position, hang it in and then swivel it

to the front until the locking device

audibly latches. – Check that it is se-

cure! Attach the calf strap.

Adjusting the height of the

foot plate

Tools:

1 x open-end or ring spanner WW* 10

Remove the clamping screw (fig. 52/

➁) to adjust the height.

Telescope the foot plate to the desired

height and then secure it with the

clamping screw.
