CE REGULATIONS
Note:
The technology of this electric
wheelchair complies with the re-
quirements of the EEC 93/42 direc-
tive on electromagnetic compati-
bility.
However, the possibility of interfe-
rence from high-frequency radiation
from other electrical equipment can-
not be excluded.
High-frequency radiation exists in the
proximity of, for example, radar and
broadcasting stations, all types of ra-
dio sets and radio telephones. Stop the
electric wheelchair immediately and
switch off the control unit if the
wheelchair reacts uncontrollably or
causes interference to other electronic
devices.
The connection of other electrical de-
vices can also cause malfunctions.
!
Attention:
Never drive the electric vehicle in
the proximity of electronic medi-
cal equipment with a high danger
potential and/or life-supporting
function or in the proximity of di-
agnostic equipment.

DRIVING
Drive especially carefully during your
first journey!
Bearing this in mind, set the pre-se-
lectable final speed to the lowest set-
ting.
!
Attention:
Children may not use the
wheelchair without supervision or
without an attendant.
Do not touch the I/O button while
driving. – Pressing the key will then
switch off the electric wheelchair
and cause it to stop immediately.
Observe the brochure < Safety in-
formation electronic wheelchairs >
and the operating manual < Ope-
rating module >!
You can determine speed and driving
direction by yourself while driving
through the movements of the joystick
(fig. 3/
) as well as the maximum
speed set for you wheelchair.
Note:
The key-function secures the
wheelchair against unauthorised
use. Observe the operating manu-
al < operating module >.
3
Speeds up to a maximum of 6 km/
h can be achieved.
The drive limits the maximum
speed depending on the joystick
position during downhill travel.
Inclinations up to 15 % (about 8°)
can be overcome with the drive.
When reversing with the joystick
leaning to the left, your wheelchair
makes a right turn.
If drive mode is switched off (bra-
ke release lever in the push positi-
on) the wheelchair cannot be ope-
rated and braked via the joystick!
In this event, use the brake release
lever (shift to the drive position). –
Danger of accidents!
1
11
The drive can cause malfunctions
with devices that are not normati-
ve.
Electromagnetic fields created by
equipment which emits radiation
can influence the drive perfor-
mance characteristics. Mobile te-
lephones and other radio equip-
ment should, therefore, only be
used when the wheelchair is stati-
onary.
A reversal of the steering direction
is, with certain manoeverabiltiy
restrictions, possible by repro-
gramming.
To optimise the driving behaviour
or adjustment of the driving pro-
grams the specialist dealer can tune
the electronic with a programming
unit or through the PC-software.
Braking the wheelchair
The wheelchair stops when you let go
of the joystick. Always ensure an ade-
quate braking distance when applying
the wheelchair brakes.
Note:
Observe the section entitled < Bra-
kes > !
First driving exercises
A low maximum speed must be pre-
selected on the control unit for the
initial driving practice. Make yourself
familiar with the driving behaviour of
the electric wheelchair in small steps.
The electronic wheelchair should only
then be used outside of your familiar
surroundings when it is fully under
control.
Note:
Observe the chapter < driver trai-
ning > in the brochure < Safety
instructions electronic wheelchairs
>!
!
Attention:
Drive carefully during the first ri-
des!
Start off slowly. Carry out a short
braking and steering test after star-
ting off.
12
Safety informations
!
Attention:
Before you make your first drive,
read and observe the contents of
this operating manual and
the brochure < Safety informations
– electronic wheelchairs >
the operating manual < operating
module >.
Comply with the max. permitted
rising gradient value specified in
the < Technical data > section.
The attachment/detachment of ac-
cessories/components alters the dri-
ving behaviour.
Tyres are made of a rubber mixtu-
re and can leave permanent or dif-
ficult-to-remove marks on some
surfaces (e.g. plastic, wooden or
parquet flooring, carpets, mats).
Only use the drive when the sup-
port castors that belong to
wheelchair are mounted.
Before starting to drive adjust to
the lowest final speed on the ope-
rating module so that a slow and
controlled start can be warranted.
Avoid sudden change to the oppo-
site direction, (e.g. change to for-
ward drive after driving backwards
without any movement of the stee-
ring wheel). – This can lead to acci-
dents due to full braking while
steering wheels are moving in-
wards!
Holes, stones, grooves, gully covers
and similar obstacles can lock the
wheels. Always be ready to brake.
Think ahead when manoeuvring.
Drive wide around obstacles if pos-
sible.
An exposure to high temperatures
from lamps, the sun or other heat
or light sources can damage the
upholstery. Protect the upholstery
with a cover and/or park the
wheelchair in a protected area.
13
Never expose the electric
wheelchair to extreme weather
conditions.
Do not throw or drop parts belon-
ging to the wheelchair!
Detachable parts like e.g. armrests
and legrests have to be used pro-
perly to guarantee their function.
Treat the removed operating mo-
dule properly to guarantee their
function.
Avoid jerky adjustments to driving
status when negotiating hills, trans-
verse slopes and obstacles.
Especially avoid tight turning and
jerky braking on inclines with cri-
tically set driving parameters. –
Danger of overturning!
When traveling downhill, select a
low speed!
Functional checks
The functions and safety of the elec-
tric wheelchair must be checked be-
fore the start of each journey.
!
Attention:
Observe the brochure < Safety in-
formation electronic wheelchairs >!
The frame, cables and the batteries
should be checked for damage af-
ter a collision with an obstacle. –
Have any visually identified dama-
ge repaired immediately by a work-
shop.
The following situations increa-
se the risk of accidents!
Driving with angle-adjusted back-
rest.
Traveling uphill/downhill, especial-
ly when no safety belt is worn.
Oblique crossing of an obstacle.
Additional luggage behind the
backrest or hung one-sided on an
armrest.
Driving with too low tyre pressu-
re.
Operation on uneven and/or loose
surfaces
Using the ON/OFF key while dri-
ving.
14
BRAKES
!
Attention:
Have the brakes repaired immedi-
ately by a specialist dealer if they
work one-sided or if the braking
effect is reduced.
Observe the brochure < Safety in-
formation electronic wheelchairs >!
SERVICE BRAKE
The motor works electrically as a dri-
ving brake and decelerates the
wheelchair softly and jerk-free to a
standstill.
PARKING BRAKE
The parking brakes only work when
the selection lever is in the drive mode
position. They disengage automatical-
ly when the wheelchair starts off. They
are disengaged manually by moving
the selection lever to the push mode
position. Also view chapter < Drive-/
push mode >.
!
Attention:
Before maintenance work as well
as reconfigurations, adjustments to
the wheelchair, switch the brake
release lever to the drive position
and switch off the operating mo-
dule.
– Accident risk resulting from inadver-
tent movement of the wheelchair!
Braking the wheelchair
!
Attention:
For this reason, ensure that you
brake the wheelchair in good time
when you encounter other people
or obstacles.
For allotted braking slowly guide the
joystick back to the home position
(zero-setting).
The wheelchair stops when you let go
of the joystick.
Braking distance
Depending on the nature of the dri-
ving surface and speed, the shortest
braking distance is approx. 1 m for 6
km/h.
15
Locking the brake
Push the brake release lever forward
as far as it will go (fig. 4).
!
Attention:
It is impossible to push the
wheelchair when in drive mode.
The brake performance reduces
with
the brake pads are worn.
If the wheelchair demonstrates an
uneven or impaired braking effect,
take it immediately to your specialist
workshop for repair.
Releasing the brake
Activate the pull button (fig. 4/
) and
push the brake release lever back as
far as it will go (fig. 5).
!
Attention:
Do not get into/out of the
wheelchair unless it is switched off
and the selection lever has been set
to drive mode.
– Inadvertently knocking the joy-
stick will set the wheelchair in
motion without control! – Danger
of accidents!
