53With parts 387, 388, 389, 390, 391, 395,
109, 153, 308, 348, 381, make the
mizzen boom 386, the mizzen gaff 392 and the
mainmast gaff 393, following the plans for the
masts. Sew the mizzen fore trysail 394 to the
gaff 392 with the fine raw thread 308. Fit the
boom and the gaff on the fore trysails 394 and
sew this sail with the fine raw thread 308 to the
boom 386 and to the stay on the rounding of
the mizzen 355. Fit the gilt chain 302 with the
help of the small rings 108 and the double hook
on the mizzen gaff 396. Rig the mizzen fore
trysail 394, following the direction of the
coloured arrows, while taking into account the
yellow, white and violet arrows to be tied on
the belay pins of the circular pin-rail 356. The
green and blue arrows are to be tied to the
eyebolts 109 located on the deck, and the red
arrow is to be threaded through a hole in the
small clump block 100 to end in a belay pin 103
in the pin-rail on the mizzen rigging 382.

54 Gaff and trysail of mainmast
54Sew the mainmast fore trysail 397 to the mainmast gaff 393 with the fine raw thread 308.
Fit the gaff with its sail into the eyebolt 109, located at the jaw of the trysail 332, and sew
this sail with the thread 308 to the stay on the rounding of the mainmast 341. Rig the fore trysail
of the mainmast 397, following the direction of the coloured arrows – the yellow arrows to be
tied in the belay pins 103 of the circular pin-rail 339, the violet arrows to be tied to the belay
pins 103 of the side pin-rails on the mainmast 284, and the green arrow to be tied to the eyebolt
109 located on the deck.

55On the stays located between the
mainmast and mizzen masts, fit the
mizzen topmast staysail 398 and the mizzen
topgallant staysail 399, securing them with the
small rings 108. Rig both sails 398 and 399,
following the direction of the coloured arrows.
The violet arrows are to be tied on the belay
pins 103 of the side pin-rails on the mainmast
284, the red arrows to be tied on the belay
pins 103 of the circular pin-rail 356 and the
yellow arrows to be threaded through a hole in
the small clump blocks 100 located in the lower
rigging to end in the belay pins 103 (one is tied
to the port pin-rail and the other to the
starboard pin-rail). See the next page for more

56Fit the main stay topsail 400 on the stays
located between the foreyard and
mainmast, fit the topgallant staysail 401 and the
top stay main mast 402, fixing them with the
small rings 108. Rig the sails 400, 401 and 402
with the fine raw thread 308, following the
direction marked by the coloured arrows: the
violet arrows are to be tied onto the dowels
belay pins 103 of the side pin-rails on the
foreyard 283; the red arrows are to go through
the 3mm blocks 348 to be tied onto the belay
pins 103 of the circular pin-rail on the mainmast
339.The yellow arrows are to be tied in this
order – the arrow for the sail 400 to the
eyebolt 109 located on deck, the arrows for the
sails 401 and 402 to the belay pins 103 on the
port and starboard sides, the first going through
the cap of the mast 338 and the second through
the clump block 100 located on the mainmast
foretop, and then both through the clump
blocks 100 located on the lower rigging. See
the next page for more step-by-step photos.

57With the fine raw thread 308, rig the boom halyard, starting from the eyebolt 109 and
passing the thread through the hole located on the boom 364 and through the 3mm block
348, tying off in the belay pin 103 of the bowsprit pin-rail 116. On the flying jib 403, fit the bowsprit
stays, the jibsail 404 and the fore topmast staysail 405. Secure the sails to the corresponding stays
by means of the rings 108, leaving a 14mm gap between them. Rig the three sails, following the
coloured arrows (see following Step 58).
