SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Use 1 x 3mm wooden strips to cover
the bare areas at each end of the deck
from Stage 2.
Cut away any strips overlapping the
edges and sand the surface smooth.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Paint the deck with wood stain, to
match the rest of the model.
For a more aged look, you can apply
a thin coat of bitumen diluted with
turpentine over the surface, wiping it off
straight after applying it.
Cut two 90mm lengths of 2 x 3mm
wooden strip and glue onto the deck
either side of the mast hole, as shown.
Test-fit the deck on the lower beams
(red-dotted lines), aligning the hole for
the mast with the hole in the mast step.
Make any adjustments to improve the
fit of the deck and then apply glue to
the tops of the beams.

SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Cut two 90mm lengths of 2 x 3mm
wooden strip and glue onto the deck at
either side, up against the ribs.
Place the deck into position on the
beams and hold in place until the glue
dries, making sure that the mast hole is
aligned with the hole in the mast step.
Cut four 90mm lengths of 4 x 4mm
wooden strip and glue two to the ribs
on either side, underneath the second
level of beams.

Adjust the width of the third strip to fit
between the strips from Steps G and
I (arrowed), and then glue into place.
Repeat Steps I-J for the other side of
the model.
Cut three 90mm lengths of 2 x 5mm
wooden strip and glue them above the
strip from Step G.
Make sure that the ends of the strips
are always aligned.

should look at this stage. Keep any left-
over material, as it will be used later.

Cut four 31mm lengths of 4 x 4mm
wooden strip (light) and shape the
central section, 4mm from either end,
with a file, as shown to create columns.
Smooth the four columns with
sandpaper and apply a coat of wood
stain and clear varnish to each.

Prepare another four columns,
25mm in length, in the same way as
those in Steps A-B. Glue two of the
25mm columns onto the lower deck,
underneath the beam, at a distance of
18mm from the false keel.
Glue one of the columns 23mm away
from the centre of the false keel,
underneath the beam. Glue a second
column on the opposite side, at the
same distance from the centre of the
false keel.
Glue the other two 25mm columns
under the beam at the other end of
the model, aligned with those in the
previous step.

Take the knees sheet from Stage 20
and cut all the parts out of the sheet.
Cut a length of 4 x 4mm wooden strip,
and glue into place, positioned centrally
between and parallel to the two beams,
as shown.
Use sandpaper to smooth the surfaces
of the knees and then apply a coat of
wood stain to each.

Cut some 1 x 3mm wooden strips into
100mm lengths and glue to the deck
half from Stage 20.
When dry, turn the deck half over and
cut away any overlapping parts of strips.

grating, two 4 x 6 and one 6 x 6.
Assemble the grating strips from Stages
20 and 51.
Smooth the sides of the grating grids.

Glue the remaining six 2 x 5mm
lengths to the outside of the ribs on the
other side of the model.
Sand the ends of the strips to ensure
they are aligned.
Cut 12 lengths, 90mm long, of
2 x 5mm wooden strip. Glue six to the
outside of the ribs, continuing on from
the previous ones.

Smooth the stand sides with sandpaper
to remove any rough edges or splinters.
Then apply a coat of wood stain to
both pieces.
Cut two 70mm lengths of 5mm dowel
and insert into the holes in one of the
stand sides, with 5mm of the dowel
projecting through.

Place the model onto the stand. You
may find it easier to work on the model
in this raised position.
Slide the other stand side over the
two dowels until they project through
it by 5mm.
Cut more 100mm lengths of 1 x 3mm
wooden strip and cover the rest of the
deck half from the previous stage.

Test-fit the two deck halves on the
beams, as shown. Make any necessary
adjustments if the fit isn’t flush, and
then glue them into place.
Remove the overlapping strips and
smooth the surface and sides of the
deck halves.
Slide the 12mm dowel down through
the mast holes of each deck and into
the hole in the mast step to ensure they
are all aligned.

Glue the square onto the deck,
centred over the mast hole, as shown

Remove one of the mast support
squares from the parts sheet received
in Stage 52. Smooth the surface of the

Cut two 22mm lengths of 2 x 5mm
wooden strip and glue them on either
side of the square hole. Make sure that
the bottoms of the lengths are flush
with the bottom of the deck.
Cut another two lengths of 2 x 5mm
wooden strip, to fit between the two
22mm lengths, and glue into place.

Glue one of the 4 x 6 grating grids in
the gap at the front of the deck.
Cut two 90mm lengths of 2 x 3mm
wooden strip, and glue them either
side of the mast support square and the
strips from Step A. Then, cut another
length and glue it in front of the square
hole, flush with the edge of the deck.
Cut another two 90mm lengths of
2 x 3mm wooden strip and glue to the
side of the deck up against the ribs.

Cut a further ten 90mm lengths of
2 x 5mm wooden strip and glue five
to the outside of the ribs on each side
of the model.
Cut two 90mm lengths of 2 x 5mm
wooden strip and glue one on each side
of the deck, on top of the 2 x 3mm
wooden strips from the previous step.
Sand the front and back of the model
to ensure that all the ends are aligned.

Apply a coat of wood stain to the deck
and any other unstained areas.
For a more aged look, you can apply
a thin coat of bitumen diluted with
turpentine over the surface, wiping it off
straight after applying it.
