3. Removethewateringcapandbrieyrinsetheelectrodewith
de-ionizedwater.Analreadyusedelectrodeshouldrstbe
cleaned by lightly scrubbing the sensing element with a
soft-bristledtoothbrushandamildsoapsolution,followed
byrinsingwithde-ionizedwater.
4. Connect the electrode to the pH transmitter, using cable
VP6-ST/ISFET.Pleaserefertothewiringandterminaldiagram
accompanyingthecable.
5. Priortocalibration,soaktheelectrodeinbufferpH7.00or
pH4.01foratleast10minutes,withtheelectrodeconnected
tothetransmitter.
6. Beforeputtingtheelectrodeintooperation,carryoutazero
pointcalibration.Exactinstructionsforzeropointcalibration
aregivenintheinstructionmanualoftheassociatedpHtrans-
mitter.
5. Operation
5.1 Calibration of the electrode and the pH transmitter
A2-pointpHcalibrationisrecommendede.g.usingbuffers
pH7.00andpH4.01.Pleaserefertotheinstructionmanu-
alofthepHtransmitterforfurtherdetails.
5.2 CIP-cleanability (Cleaning-In-Place)
Astandardprocedureformaintaininghygienicconditions
in food processing is Cleaning-In-Place (CIP). Periodic
ushingwithhotcausticsoda(NaOH)willhowevershorten
the lifetime of the electrode.Wetherefore recommend to
retracttheelectrodefromtheprocessandtocleanitwith
hotsteam(sterilizationprocedure).
6. Maintenance
1. Carefullyrinsethesensortipanddiaphragmwithde-ionized
wateraftereachproductioncycle.Undernocircumstances
mustmeasuringsolutionbeallowedtodryontheseparts!
2. Whenthesensorisnotinoperation,storeitwithsensortip
anddiaphragmwellsubmergedinto9823/3MKClor9816/
Viscolyt™electrolyte.
3. Ifthesensorisstoredmountedinitshousing,thesamerule
asin2)aboveapplies,butthestorageelectrolytehastobe
slightlymodied,with2partsofbuffersolutionpH9.2to10
partsofelectrolyte,thisinordertoavoidcorrosionofhousing
parts.
4. Ifasensorisstoreddryforafewdaysbymistake,letitsoak
inthenormalstorageelectrolyteforseveralhoursbeforeuse.
5. Occasionallychecktheconnectorforpossibletracesofmois-
ture.Ifnecessary,cleanwellwithde-ionizedwateroralcohol,
andafterwardsdrycarefully.
6. ThesiliconeO-ring(markedNo.4inthedrawing)istobe
replacedatleasteverysixmonthsor,ifnecessary,atashort-
erinterval.
7. Trouble-shooting
Forcleaning,lightlyscrubthesensingelementoftheelectrode
withasofttoothbrushandwatertoremoveanypossibleresi-
dues.Usemilddetergentifnecessary.Possibleproteinprecipi-
tationandblockageofthediaphragmcanbetreatedwithclean-
er51340070.

Attention:HF-containingsolutionswilldestroythepHsen-
sitiveelementoftheelectrode.
8. Disposal
Ifnoofcialregulationsareinforce,usedordefectiveelectrodes
and the packaging can be disposed as ordinary household
waste.
9. Warranty
Intheeventof manufacturingfaults,awarranty periodof12
monthsfromdateofproductionisgranted.
