Information on your ISDN line
ZephyrXstreamneedstoknowsomethingsaboutyourISDNlinetoworkproperly.YourISDN
circuitconsistsoftwodigital“Bchannels”.Justlikearegulartelephoneline,thesechannels
havetelephonenumberssothatyoucansendandreceivecalls.TheZephyrXstream,aswith
mostISDNequipment,referstoth
esechannelsas“lines”.Unlikeregulartelephonelines,both
"lines"mighthavethesametelephonenumberassignedtothem.
ThereareseveraldifferenttypesofISDNservice.Youmustknowwhattypeyouhave.In
addition,ISDNcircuitsintheUSandCanadawillusuallyhaveServiceProfileIDentification(SPID)
numb
ers.SPIDs,whenused,mustbeprogrammedintotheZephyrXstream.Inrare
circumstances,USusersmayalsoneedDirectoryNumbers(DNs)ifthetelephonenumbersare
notincorporatedintotheSPIDs.

European & Japanese users should disregard all references to SPIDs. Euro ISDN &
Japanese ISDN do not have SPIDs! If your equipment configuration requires MSNs, they may
be entered in the MSN/DN menu options in the TEL menu. MSNs are optional, would only be
used if another ISDN device is sharing the ISDN circuit with the Zephyr Xstream.

Connecting to the ISDN Circuit
MakingthephysicalconnectiontotheISDNlinevarieswithyourNT1.Youwilluseoneofthe
followingmethodsasappropriateforyourlocale:

UsingastandardRJ11styletelephonetypemodularcable,interconnectthesmaller

company.Becarefultoinsertthecableinthecenterofeachjack,asitisthemiddle
twowiresthathavetheISDNcircuit.
2. ExternalNT1providedbytheTelephonecompany(Europe&mostlocations
worldwide)
Usingalarge8pin(R
J45style),telephonetypemodularcablewitheightwires,
interconnectthelargerjackontheZephyrXstreamandajackontheNT1thatis
labeled“Terminal”or"S/T."Thiscablemusthaveeightwir es andisprovidedwith
theZephyrXstream.
Youshouldnotneedtopr
ovidepowertotheNT1.TheNT1isnormallypoweredfromtheISDN
line.

ConnecttheprovidedIECpowercabletotheZephyrXstream.Asyouface
theback,theconnectionisonthelowerright.
ConnecttheotherendoftheIECcabletoyourAC(mains)poweroutlet.The
ZephyrXstre
am’spowerinputisuniversal,acceptinganythingfrom100to
240VoltAC50/60Hz.
Flipthepowerswitch,locatedjustabovethepowercableconnector,tothe
“on”position.(pushinthesidelabeled“1”).
