STAGE 11
The left
exhaust pipes
Tools Prepare
Phillips screwdriver Plastic bag
Pen
There are four exhaust pipes, connected
to each of the four cylinders. They
are split into two pairs, and each pair
runs along the underside of the body,
combines, then passes into the left and
right silencers. The exhaust pipes have
been recreated in die-cast metal with a
matt black surface treatment.

2.3 × 5mm screws × 6
Your parts
Locate the screw hole (arrowed) in left
exhaust pipe A. Place one of the 2.3 ×
5mm screws into the hole. Position the 2.3 × 5mm screw so that it is
aligned with the hole. Begin to tighten the
screw into the hole.

SUZUKI GSX 1300R Hayabusa: Assembly Guide
Tighten the screw into the hole until only
a third of the thread is still visible, as
shown above.
Combine the two left exhaust pipes,
inserting the pins into the holes.
Hold left exhaust pipes A and B next to
each other, as shown. Locate the four
circled holes and pins on the two pipes.
Tighten the screw into place.
Remove the screw and clean away any
shavings from the inside of the hole.
Inserting the screw will have cut a thread
on the inside of the hole.
Place the 2.3 × 5mm screw into the hole in
pipe B.

This stage is now complete. Both sets of
exhaust pipes are now assembled but
they aren't yet ready to be tted to the

Tighten the screw into the hole until only
a third of the thread is still visible, as

Turn the 2.3 × 5mm screw into the hole,
keeping it as straight as possible and
leaving about a third of the threaded
portion visible.
Insert the D-shaped end of the down pipe
into the corresponding hole in the left
silencer inlet and left down pipe plate.
Locate and align the outlined holes and
projections on the left silencer inlet and
left down pipe plate.
Use a toothpick to clear all of the holes in
the instrument panel cover from Stage 2.
Remove the screw from the end of the
down pipe.
Tighten the 2.3 × 5mm screw through the
silencer inlet into the left down pipe.
Remove the protective lm (matt in
appearance) from the instrument panel
lens. You may nd this easier to do by
placing a strip of masking tape onto the
lm and peeling it back.
Align the central holes on the two parts,
and then push the three pins on the down
pipe plate into the three holes in the left
silencer inlet.

Before placing the lens in the instrument
panel cover, make sure they are both the
same way up. There is a matching curved
section at the top of each part (dotted
blue lines).
With the holes aligned, insert one of the
small needle pins. To identify the pins,
look at the sizes of their heads, which are
either large (shown above left) or small
(shown above right).
Locate the four holes (circled) in the four
meters on the instrument panel. The
smaller needles and pins (S) t at the
outside holes, and the larger needles and
pins (L) go with the inner holes.
Align the hole of one of the large meter
needles with the hole in the speedometer,
as shown. Insert one of the large pins into
the holes.
Match the curved sections of the two parts
and place the lens in the cover, as shown.
Holding the pin in place, turn the
instrument panel over and push a stopper
over the end of the pin.
Turn the instrument panel over again and
secure the pin with a stopper.
Place one of the small meter needles over
the temperature gauge (far right), aligning
the holes of both.

This stage is now complete. Keep the
instrument panel cover stored until it is
needed again. Store all other parts from
this stage in a labelled bag.
Fit the needles, pins and stoppers of the
tachometer (left) and fuel gauge (far left) in
the same way as those of the speedometer
and temperature gauge.
Line up the curved sections at the top of
the instrument panel and the cover, and
then place the panel into the cover.
To move a needle, hold its pin and
stopper, as shown, and rotate the two of
them together.
Lift the padding up and t it into the
cover. Then store the cover and padding
in a plastic bag (inset).
When all of the needles and pins are in
place, turn the instrument panel over and
gently push down on each of the stoppers
in turn. This will ensure that all the pins are
properly secured.
Place the instrument panel cover and the
padding next to each other, as shown.
Here is an example of the needle positions
– it’s up to you how you position them on
your model.

Silencer development becomes dicult
in high-performance bikes due to
the need for quietness and exhaust
eciency. The silencer on the model
