Your parts
Most motorcycles have a simple
exhaust system, in which the exhaust
gases from the engine pass through the
exhaust pipe or pipes to the silencer(s).
Positioned directly under the oil
pan, the four exhaust pipes from the
Hayabusa’s cylinders combine into two,
one positioned on each side of the bike
to distribute the weight evenly.
Place the end of one of the 2.3 × 5mm
screws (Stage 11) into the end of the right
downpipe. Tighten the 2.3 × 5mm screw into the
hole, keeping it as straight as possible
and leaving about a third of the threaded
portion visible.

This stage is now complete. You will be
using the downpipe assembly in the next
stage, so there is no need to store it away
at this point.
Remove the screw from the end of the
downpipe.
Insert the D-shaped end of the downpipe
into the corresponding hole in the right
downpipe plate.
Align the central holes on the two parts,
and then push the three pins on the
downpipe plate into the three holes in the
right silencer inlet.
Tighten the 2.3 × 5mm screw through the
silencer inlet into the left downpipe.
Locate and align the outlined holes and
projections on the right silencer inlet and
right downpipe plate.
Insert the screw removed in Step 3 into
the hole in the silencer inlet.
Align the outlined areas of the downpipe
and the downpipe plate.

Your parts
The left and right silencers of the
Hayabusa play an important role in how
the bike handles. Having one exhaust
pipe and silencer on each side of the
bike to distribute the weight evenly
prevents the bike from becoming
unstable when cornering.
Locate the pin at the end of the silencer
furthest from the mounting bracket, and
the notch in the silencer outlet, both
circled above. Align the notch in the outlet with the pin
in the silencer.

SUZUKI GSX 1300R Hayabusa: Assembly Guide
This stage is now complete. The left and
right downpipe and silencer assemblies
are complete. They won’t be needed
again until you mount the engine on the
main frame, so until then, put them in a
plastic bag and keep them in a safe place.
Push the outlet into the silencer. Try to
keep it straight as you push it so that it
doesn’t get jammed.
Insert the silencer inlet into the silencer,
holding the downpipe at an angle to the
silencer, as shown.
Locate the two pins at the other end of
the silencer, and the two notches in the
silencer inlet at the end of the downpipe
from Stage 15, all circled above.
Place the strips of masking tape on the
right downpipe and the right silencer. This
will help you to distinguish them from the
left downpipe and silencer assembly from
Stage 14.
Push down rmly on the outlet, to make
sure it’s as far into the silencer as it will go.
Cut two strips of masking tape and write
the letter ‘R’ on them.
Align the pins of the silencer with the
notches of the inlet.

A 1,300cc engine needs a large
radiator to cool it. However, thanks
to the extremely aerodynamic
fairing around the engine, the
speed of the Hayabusa doesn’t
suer because of the larger
radiator, which can eectively and
eciently cool the massive engine.
Hold the radiator front and rear as shown.
Locate the four holes and projections
on each one, circled in blue, and the
mounting points, circled in red. Combine the two radiator halves by
inserting the projections of the rear into
the holes of the front.

This stage is now complete. Be careful when storing the radiator, as
the hoses coming from the radiator cap and the thermostat switch
are quite delicate. Store the radiator along with the unused 2.3 ×
6mm screws in a plastic bag marked with the stage number.
Using tweezers, carefully remove the
radiator cap warning sticker from its
backing sheet. Fix the sticker in the centre
of the radiator cap (see Step 4).
Align the D-shaped projection on the
thermostat switch with the corresponding
hole in the rear of the radiator.
Locate the circled projection on the top
of the radiator and place the hole on the
underside of the radiator cap over it.
This photo shows the correct position of
the radiator cap warning sticker.
Push the thermostat fully into the hole in
the radiator.
Push the radiator cap straight down onto
the projection as far as it will go.
