4 Installation and commissioning
1. Onunpacking,andagainpriortoinstallation,checkthe
electrodevisuallyforsignsofmechanicaldamagetothe
glassmembrane,theshaftandtheconnector.Report
any faults or defects immediately to your authorized
METTLERTOLEDOdealer.
2. Removethewateringcapandrinsetheelectrodewith
distilledordeionizedwater.Useonlysofttissuetodab
theelectrodedry.Donotrubtheglassmembranesince
this can lead to sluggish response behavior of the
electrode.
3. Electrodes with a dry glass membrane must be
conditioned forseveralhoursina3mol KClsolution
before being used.
4. Connectalwaysthesolutionground(bluecable)tothe
transmitter.
5. UsePTFEtapetosealtheNPTthread.
6. If possible use the protection sleeve (order no.
52401808).
5 Cabling
TheInPro4550VPisequippedwithaVarioPinconnector.
Toconnect thecable totheelectrode,attachandgently
rotateuntiltheconnectorisengaged(groove).Screwthe
cablecap nut onto the electrode until the connection is
secure. The plug assembly should be tted hand-tight
only; no tools should be used. For details of the exact
assignmentoftheindividualcableleadstotheVPpins,
please refer to the instruction leaet “Preparation of the
cableforconnectiontothetransmitter”suppliedtogether
withthecable.
6 Calibration and measurement
InPro 4550VP electrodes require two-point calibration.
Before calibration, the watering cap must be removed
from the pH electrode. The electrode is then dipped
successively into two different buffer solutions, each of
knownpHvalue,andthe transmittercalibratedtothese
buffervalues(forexample,bufferspH4.01andpH7.00).
Pleasenotetheinstructionsgivenintheoperatingmanual
ofthetransmitter.Calibrationshouldberepeatedasand
whenneeded.
7 Maintenance
–ElectrodeswithXerolyt
Pluspolymerelectrolytecannot
berelled.
–Electrodes shouldnotbe storeddryfor any periodof
time.
–Duringstorage,thewateringcap should beinplace,
lledwithFriscolyt™or3molKClsolution.
–Neverstoreanelectrodeindistilledordeionizedwater,
asthisshortensthelifetimeoftheelectrode.
–Shouldtheelectrodedryout,itmustbeconditionedfor
24hoursinFriscolyt(orderingno.51340053for250
ml,or51340054for63250ml)beforereuse.After
conditioning,recalibrationisrequired.
–Aftereachworkcycle,thetipoftheelectrodeshouldbe
cleanedusingdeionizedwater.
