SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step
Remove the two gun port strips from
the sheet, and use sandpaper to smooth
and remove any splinters. Hold one of
the strips in place against the ribs and
mark on it any ribs that rest near the
gun ports, then glue gun mounts into
place on the inside of the strip.
Test-fit the strip in place against the
ribs, make any necessary adjustments to
the mounts and then apply glue to the
sides of the ribs.

the strip in front of it first and then with
each of the ribs.
Continue nailing the strip in place, as

Apply glue to the sides of the ribs and
slot the strip into place, engaging first
with the forward strip at Rib 6, then
with the rest of the ribs.
Glue the mounts into place, covering
the ports and leaving gaps for the ribs
where marked.
Nail the strip into place, beginning at
Rib 6 and working aft.

Paint the inside surfaces of the two new
strips with wood stain. Let them dry
before proceeding.
Remove the two gun port strips from
the sheet and smooth them with
sandpaper. Hold the strip in place up
against the decks, as shown.
Hold the shorter of the two strips
in place, making sure to fit it to the
curvature of the deck.

Before the glue completely dries, nail
the strip in place to the ribs. The tips
of the nails should be angled slightly
downwards to prevent them protruding
through the deck.
Position the strip flush with Rib 1 and

amount of quick-drying glue to the
contact points.

Cut two sections from the grating,
one containing 6 x 3 holes and the
other 9 x 6 holes.
Apply super glue to all the joints, so that
the grating becomes one single piece.
Smooth the sides and any rough
edges of the gratings, keeping the
corners square.

Sand the corners and edges of the
assembly, slightly rounding both, then
paint it with clear varnish.
Take one of the 2 x 3mm wooden
strips and cut two lengths to fit the short
sides of the 6 x 3-hole grating, then glue
them into place as shown. Then cut a
further two lengths to fit the long sides,
including the ends of the strips just
added, and glue them into place.
Glue the grating assembly onto the
deck between Ribs 1 and 2, as shown.

larger grating, which will be fitted at a

Cut two lengths of the 2 x 3mm
wooden strips to fit the long sides of the
9 x 6-hole grating, then glue them into
place as shown. Then cut a further two
lengths to fit the short sides, including
the ends of the strips just added,
and glue them into place. Round the
corners and edges, and varnish the
grating (see Step G).

Draw a line along the centre of one of
the 18 x 18mm faces of the wooden
block from the previous stage.
Insert the tip of a knife into the centre
of the line on the block, so that you can
use the knife to hold the block. Apply
some glue to the opposite face of the
block, then place the block, glue side
down, centrally on the main deck, as
shown. Wait until the glue dries before
carefully removing the knife.

Cut three 6 x 4-hole sections from the
grating assembled at the beginning of
the previous stage.
Remove the pieces of beam that are
visible in the openings on the decks.
After smoothing the edges of the
gratings, cut and glue a piece of
2 x 3mm wooden strip onto a long
side of one of the gratings. Then glue
the second grid to the other side of the
strip, aligning all three pieces.

Cut two lengths of 2 x 3mm wooden
strip to fit the long sides of the grating
assembly, and glue them into place,
aligned at the edges. Then cut and glue
another two lengths to fit the shorter
sides, including the ends of the long
strips just added.
Repeat the previous step, fitting another
strip and the third grating to the other
two. When dry, smooth the sides flush.
Smooth the edges of the assembly and
then paint with clear varnish.
