them; you should also read the instructions for a soil finishing tool.
The operating person should be qualified in safety requirements and be instructed about the dangers by the instruction for use and maintenance.
Please pass on all safety instructions to other users.
The relevant safety regulations and the other generally recognised technical safety, health care and traffic regulations are to be observed.
Beware of the ”warning” signs!
Instructions in this manual with this sign and warning graphical symbol on the tool warn of danger!
(for explanations of the warning graphical symbol see appendix ”pictogram symbols”)
Loss of guarantee
The drill has been manufactured exclusively for usual agricultural uses. Any other use is considered as not in accordance with the requirements
of the law and the manufacturer is not liable for any damage resulting from this use .
Observing the prescribed operating, maintenance and upkeep conditions is considered use in accordance with the requirements of the law as
is the exclusive use of original spare parts.
By using external equipment and/or external parts (high-usage/wear and tear spare parts and other spare parts) which are not allowed by the
Poettinger manufacturer any guarantee is cancelled.
Unauthorised repairs or changes to the device and failure to monitor use (that all blades sow) exclude any liability for any damage which arises
from this.
Possible complaints on delivery (damage in transit, incomplete units) are to be immediately communicated in writing.
Guarantee demands and guarantee conditions to be observed or liability disqualification are in accordance with our delivery conditions.
Safety Instructions
Before coupling and uncoupling, set the tractor’s hydraulic unit to „position control“!
When coupling and uncoupling, do not allow anyone to stand between the tractor and the machine; also stay clear of the tractor
and machine when the external hydraulic console is in use. Risk of injury!
Ensure that when lifted, the seed drill (with its row markers folded in) does not come into contact with other objects – e.g. with
a rear-hinged window!
Ensure that there is sufficient space to manoeuvre (when the hopper is full), and attach a suitable weight to the front of the
tractor.
Before operation, ensure that the tractor and machine are both in safe operating condition and that the relevant guards have
been attached.
The operator is responsible for safety.
Do not transport the machine with a full hopper!
Never allow anyone to climb onto or to ride on the machine (or loading platform), and keep clear of danger zones (swivel
area)!
Before leaving the tractor, lower the machine, switch off the engine and remove the ignition key.
Always lower the machine prior to performing adjustments or repairs.
Do not reach into the hopper or place objects into it when empty. The agitator (if installed) may turn if the machine is pushed
(when the spur wheel is turned) with transmission in > „0“ position. Danger of injury or damage to machine!
When filling the hopper with treated seed and cleaning with compressed air, please note that seed dressing is toxic and irritant.
Wear appropriate protective clothing!
Ensure that no one is near the machine before operating or towing.
On steep slopes, allowances are to be made for the centre of gravity of the purchased combination.
Before using the machine for the first time and after long downtimes check the oil level in the transmission and that all bearings
are adequately greased. Check that all screws are tightened, and that there is no leakage in the hydraulic unit.

TECHNICAL DATA GB
0900-GB TECHN. DATEN_8541
Technical Data
(Subject to alteration)
Brief Description of the Machine
Once assembled, the pneumatic PÖTTINGER drill machine ”AEROSEM” (with quick
coupling device) is fitted on to soil finishing tools.
The seeds from the large hopper, that has a waterproof lid, are centrally batched for the
full working width and then equally distributed to the sowing coulters. The batching is
carried out via a drive wheel, the air for the transport of the seeds – via the distributor
head to the sowing coulters generates a seed shaft driven, low noise impeller fan
(hydraulic fan fitting if required).
Through the simple, central, switching from coarse grain to fine grain and through
the continuously adjustable oil-bath transmission, all desired sowing volumes of the
different types of seed can be selected. The hydraulic seed rate adjustment means
that even during operation, the seed rate can be selected to suit the different ground
conditions.
Shoe coulters and broad shoe coulters can be interchanged without the need for tools.
Alternatively, single disc sowing coulters can be supplied.
The coulter pressure is separate on the coulter and can be adjusted centrally with a spindle – or hydraulically when on the move.
The disc markers can be fitted up to the middle of the shoes, and are hydraulically switched; this means that the electronic tramline switching
and tramline demarcation are automatically managed.
The numerous possibilities for fittings, the simple and convenient operation and the short down times through the simple, fast calibration and the
easy emptying of residue make the PÖTTINGER ”AEROSEM”, in conjunction with the PÖTTINGER soil finishing tool, a powerful tool to order.

Loading Instructions
When loading the drill machine (lifting), always support it from
four points:
2 x eyelets on the front tie-bar (3/2),
2 x eyelets on the coulter rail sowing support (5/2).
Use a crossbar and textile belt, check their load bearing capa-
city!
Keep clear of suspended loads!
Only lift the drill machine by itself and only when the hoppers are
empty (without soil-working machine).
Set-Up
Assemble the three-point saddle and belt pulley onto the soil--
nishing tool according to the special assembly diagram (see Ap-
pendix. Saddle triangle should be perpendicular to the seed shaft
drive. Maintain a distance of 115 mm. Power 1000 U/min).
Bring the combination machine under the drill machine that is
standing on supports (3/1) – and lift.
Secure the three –point coupling with a tensioner (4/2). Place the
corresponding eyelet screws.
Remove the supports (3/1).
Lower the combination.
Adjus the parallel assembly bars at a small distance from the
coulter rail to t the ”gripping roller” – (5/B1, B2, B3).
e.g. B2 – on MKE (variable transmission), PKE, VKE, HKE,
B3 – on MKE switching transmission.
Adjust the distance from the underside of the coulter to the oor
– with spindles (5/1):
Whilst in operation ca. 38 – 40 cm,
When turned off, add the working depth ‘t’ of the rotary harrow to
this gure (see Fig. 5).

V belt drive
In order to position and remove the V belts loosen the tensioner
as far as it will go - with a spindle (7/1: before loosening the safety
screws 7/2, then increase tension again).
Belt tension see Fig. 8:
Test force ca. 25 N, deection ca. 15 mm.
Release tension after around 20 minutes on the rst use.
Check belt tension daily.

9
Take special care of the following on the drive:
The drive mechanism must be exactly aligned; bring fans into line
if necessary – screws (7/3 and 7/4).
In the case of a fault with the belt, change both V belts XPZ
belts; only use belts of the same length (L=L).
Always fasten the safety device:
On the fan (4/3) and the belt guard (9/1) assemble the attached
protective wedge (9/2) close to the belt pulley.
Pay special attention when using a hydraulic fan device!
NB: With link shafts with cogged releasing couplings, and a hard-
switching electro-hydraulic seed shaft coupling, we recommend
the use of a centrifugal force coupling for the fan device in order
to avoid excessive wear and tear of the V belts. (Additional
equipment).

Electricity supply for electronic tramline switching:
12V for 3-pole constant current socket (DIN 9680). (If this is not avai-
lable, a battery connection cable with socket or an adaptor for the 7-pole
trailer socket (requires parking light to be switched on) can be supplied
by PÖTTINGER as additional equipment).
Place the cable in the hooks on the seed drill side to take strain off the
plug connection – see (6/1).

OPERATION
GB
0000-GB Einsatz_8541
Operating Instructions
- Limit the horizontal play of the tractor’s lower link
- Place the tractor’s upper link so that when in use it only lifts slightly; set the length so that the entrance shaft/seed
shaft are in a horizontal position,
- For operation, set the tractor hydraulics to ”floating position”: lifting hydraulics and row markers,
- Ensure correct seed shaft RPM; Check tension of V belts
- Only switch on seed shaft when engine is idling, - hydraulic or pneumatic switchable seed shaft with jerky running
can contribute to faster wear on the V belts (use centrifugal coupling),
- Turn off the seed shaft on the headland and raise the machine high enough,
When moving off, even before operation, rev to at least, then maintain roughly the normal RPM (fan RPM ca. 3000
U/min on the AEROSEM 3000; 3500 U/min from the AEROSEM 400 up),
- Running significantly below the normal RPM for the seed shaft (fan RPM) can lead to unequal distribution of seed
or to blockages with high volumes of seed,
- Be aware of commencing operation and starting seed dispersal depending on speed ca. 1 2 m. The seed needs
a certain amount of time to travel from the regulator to the sowing coulters. Therefore the machine should be lifted
when stopped and moved back slightly to ensure correct dispersal,
- Adjust the driving speed to suit the conditions to ensure that the seed is placed at a consistent depth. (Solo operation
at approx. 12 km/h in favourable conditions).
- Check settings – such as the calibration test (with the calibration lever down); setting of proportioning wheel – lock
the coarse seed proportioning wheel when using fine seed, set gears, butterfly flap, bottom flap – if cracked grain
appears, turn the bottom flap one notch higher than stated in the seed chart,
- While beginning to sow and then at regular intervals ensure that all coulters are sowing, no clogging. Seeds
should be visible under every coulter when the machine is stopped and lifted slightly.
- No liability is accepted for deviations in seed rate or damages resulting from blocking.
- Sowing rollers should not be allowed to go slack – move them away from slopes,
- The distance between the bottom of the coulter discs and the ground should be between 38 and 40 cm
- Give the drive wheel sufficient ground pressure - spring tension,
- On the edge of the field ensure that the drive wheel has enough ground contact, that it maintains a distance from
furrows or that it starts in the opposite direction Ensure that the row marker settings and the tramline rhythm,
including sowing roller stop, are correct,
- Electronic tramline switching check the rhythm and whether the ‘turn flaps’ are switching correctly
- Check the contents with the level indicator
- With dressed rape seed use a maximum of 10 kg of seed; fill with less seed if using seeds with a lot of husk or when
beans are being sown at double or more row spacing,
- When filling, ensure that no foreign materials (bits of paper, sack tags0 enter the hopper
- Fold away the lower step of the loading platform
- Close the hopper lid
- Given the hygroscopic nature of the seed (including dressing), always empty the hopper when not in use for long
periods. Remember that seed dressings are irritants and may be toxic!
Achtung!
Maximalen Tank-Füllstand nicht überschreiten!
Der maximale Tank-Füllstand ist bei Unterkante

After ‘emptying’ turn the calibration ap to ‘calibrate’ and turn the
bottom ap to ‘6’; turn all the proportioning wheels slightly with the
star handle (60/2).
In order to dispense with all the remaining seed residue, leave the fan
to blow for a short while (so that no rodents are attracted).
Dismantling / Parking
The assembled drill machine ”AEROSEM” should be parked on
supports in a dismantled state – with an empty hopper.
Place all supports (16/1) (set the support length/at the front so that
when the machine is parked the three-point coupling leans slightly
forward).
Release all tension from belt drives (see page 7) and remove the
V belts.
Remove the hydraulic and electric connections.
Remove the locking system (61/2).
Lower the soil nishing tool.
Park the ”AEROSEM” (cleaned, with the coulters and disc markers

Centrifugal Coupling
A jerky seed shaft turn or a halt during operation will lead to signicant
wear on the V belts or damage to the V belts and fans; therefore use
the centrifugal coupling:
a) always with link shafts with a breaking coupling (cogged releasing
coupling),
b) preferably on tractors with electro-hydraulic switching seed
shafts.
The centrifugal force coupling – including the V belt disc is / should
be mounted on the fan shaft (can also be mounted at a later date,
when e.g. operating conditions such as a / b arise).
The cut-in speed of the coupling is set at ca. 600
U/min. After a long downtime of the ”AEROSEM”
the coupling should be briefly run at a cut-in speed
of between 500 and 600 U/min (to ‘clean’ it).

Setting Seed Rates
One coarse (10/3) and two ne proportioning wheels (10/1 + 2) with
three settings and RPM adjustor vary the sowing rate. (Additional
equipment for peas available on request).
Power is taken from a drive wheel that runs on the working area
set the ground pressure of the drive wheel on the turnbuckle
(11/1).
Possible settings (given in seed chart):
1. Proportioning wheel setting
2. Gear setting – along a scale
3. Bottom ap
4. Buttery ap
5. Calibration ap (only change when calibrating)
6. Agitator shaft (remove agitator for rape)
Proportioning wheel setting
with the help of the star handle (12/1) shift the shaft - by gently
turning and lock into place with the connector (12/2). (When
changing setting, set bottom ap to ‘1’).
Setting 1 – ne seed proportioning wheel (10/1)
Setting II - ne seed proportioning wheel (10/1 + 2)
Setting III – coarse seed proportioning wheel (10/3)
In setting I and II (ne seed) the coarse seed proportioning wheel
has to be locked into place – with the lever (14/6, 12/6).
Lever engaged back 14/a - coarse seed proportioning wheel
locked,
Lever engaged forward 14/b for proportioning wheel setting
III.
If (in proportioning wheel settings I and II) the lever (14/6) will not
go into the locking position (14/a), shake the coarse seed propor-
tioning wheel slightly (open the emptying slide for this).
Gear setting
the oil-bath transmission is continuously adjustable on a scale
from 0 – 100 (0 = sowing shaft at a standstill).
If a gear setting of less than 15 is necessary in proportioning
wheel setting III (coarse seed feeder), the proportioning wheel
setting should be changed to II (ne proportioning wheel setting
1 + 2) and then continue with the calibration test in a corres-
pondingly higher gear setting.
Secure the setting lever (13/1) with the star handle.

Bottom flap
adjust with setting lever according to seed chart; 1 – 6.
Under the proportioning wheels the bottom ap forms the edge
of the batching housing; it is padded and can become displaced.
(When changing the setting of the proportioning wheels always
set the bottom ap to ‘1’).
If broken grain is discovered during calibration,
set the bottom ap one notch higher than stated
in the seed chart.
Calibration Flap
only lift the lever (12/5) to the upper setting during calibration
– to (12/5).
Working setting: lever ‘down’.
Butterfly flap
up (for normal seed: Fig. 16) and down setting (for ne seed;
Fig. 17).
The buttery ap regulates the volume of air for the transport of
the seed. (With a hydraulic fan device the buttery ap should
always be ‘open’’; see Hydraulic Fan Device).
Agitator Shaft
the agitator shaft ensures consistent seed ow.
Adjust the external agitator plugs with the coulter clamp so they
are pointing inwards.
For rape seed remove the agitator plugs (18/1) from the agi-
tator shaft; also for peas that ”ow well”, sometimes beans as
well.
Cleaning springs: the cleaning springs (18/2) ensure that the ne
seed proportioning wheels remain free of deposits e.g. dressings.
They are replaceable and should be renewed as soon as they
become worn.

Seed volume trial (Calibration)
Seed chart values
As seed varies greatly in specific weight, size, shape and dressing
the values given in the Seed Chart are only a guideline.
Therefore always carry out a seed volume trial (calibration) before
commencing work, in order to determine the correct work
setting.
With variations to the required work setting carry out a new
seed volume trial with altered work setting.
- Carry out the first seed volume trial with any work setting
- Determine the new “correctwork setting (use the accompanying
seed disc to assist, Fig 40)
- Then carry out a new seed volume trial
Even without guides from the seed chart the new “correct” work
setting can still be determined.
Example:
Set seed rate: 160 kg/ha
Seed volume trial yielded 120 kg/ha with transmission setting 30
120 kg/ha = 30 transmission setting
160 kg/ha = ? transmission setting
Transmission setting (30) x Set seed rate (160)
Seed volume trial - seed distribution volume (120)
Result: The new “correct” work setting = 40
= 40
Adjusting seed quantity per hectare
Calibration process
* Remark: In German word usage it is normal to use the term
„Abdrehen“ (which basically means turning the dosing
device by hand) instead of „Kalibrieren“ (meaning to
calibrate, electronically). In this manual we use the term
„Kalibrieren“ in order to avoid any misunderstandings with
text translations.
The so-called seed volume trial (Calibration) will determine what
volume (kg) of seed per hectare will be supplied through the relevant
setting of the dosing equipment. The drilling machine’s dosing
equipment can be adjusted exactly to the required seed distribution
volume.

Pour in seed (remove agitator plug from agitator shaft first if using
rape seed).
Engage the lever (19/4) in upper position.
Put receptacle under hoppered bottom.
Set hand lever to (19/2);
- turn several times in order to fill all cells.
Empty the receptacle again.
In Table 1 determine the number of necessary crank revolutions
according to working width and number of rows
for 1/40 ha or 1/10 ha.
Carry out crank revolutions anticlockwise
Then weigh the seed in the collecting receptacle exactly
Multiply the suitable calibration amount (weighed exactly) by the
”area factor” to calculate the seeding rate kg/ha:
G x 40 (with 1/40 ha; 250 m2)
G x 10 (with 1/10 ha; 1000 m2)
Determine correct transmission setting
- Use the enclosed sowing disc as an aid
or
- calculate using formula (see previous page)
1) 20 distribution turns
2) 24 distribution turns
3) 30 distribution turns
4) wheel revolution
Completion of seed volume trial
- After calibration, secure the hand lever on the coulter pressure
adjusting spindle or on the V belt tensioner.
- release lever (19/4) and swing it down
Note: The electronic tramlining control Multitronic II has a
„Calibration“ feature. The sowing monitor calculates and counts
the number of required hand crank rotations for the calibration area
selected.
See Operating Instructions for Multitronic II in appendix A.

Sowing with double row spacing
If, as an exception, sowing is to take place with half the number of
coulters (double row spacing), the flaps should be set to the ‘non-
sowing’ 2- way- turns setting
- set the upper flap lever up or down (22/1).
- The gear adjustment should be set for double seed volume kg/
ha:
- To calibrate the settings, take double the ‘desired seeding rate’.
- Rotate the crank for calibration according to the chart.
- For double or wider row spacing (e.g. for beans) only put a small
amount of seeds in!
Correctly set both row markers!

Change dosing wheels:
1. Remove 4 screws (S)
2. Remove linch pin (V) at the back
3. Set lever (H) to position 6
4. Remove springs (F) in the tank
5. Pull dosing unit out
6. Change dosing wheel

Hydraulic Seed Rate Adjustment
It maybe advisable to adjust to maximum seed rate in connection
with the hydraulic coulter pressure adjustment.
To operate, switch the path valve (Fig.31) to the
appropriate setting (on the coupling).
Settings „Normal“ and „Maximum Amount“:
„Normal Amount“ – calibrate as usual; star handle
(32/1, page 10) but set as limiter behind the lever (towards 0)
– fasten tightly.
(Cylinder remains retracted.)
„Maximum Amount“ Fully extend the cylinder, select „Max. Amount“
by moving cylinder – at (32/2) – and secure (32/3).
Re-calibrate.
Note: Do not clamp down the transmission select lever!
Highest transmission setting for „Normal Amount“ = „100“ minus
required extra amount (cylinder path).
