BCM953158R Installation Guide Quick Start Guide
1 Introduction
The BCM953158R is a reference design board for the small-package series of the BCM5315X/BCM5316X. The
configuration is eight GB copper ports and two 10 GB fiber ports. The operation mode supports UM and ROBO-OS
depending on the SPI-Flash size. The reference board is shown in Figure 1.

2 System
2.1 Power
12VDC/1A (2.5 mm), the power adapter of the SVK board (BCM953158K/BCM953162K) is available as well.
2.2 Memory – SPI Flash
U1901: MX25L8035EM1I-10G (8 Mbit by default for UM mode only)
To run the WM (ROBO-OS), the SPI-Flash requires 8 MB.
2.3 Console – UM Mode
Figure 2 shows an example of the console – UM Mode.

3 Debug Interface
The debug interface is described in the following sections.
3.1 UART–J3408
Figure 4: UART–J3408
To access the UART console interface, connect the TTL to UART transceiver module as shown in Figure 5 (such as the
RS232 To TTL converter module serial module DB9 connector). Do not use a USB-to-TTL cable to connect to the board
directly. It may cause chip damage due to incorrect power rail or surge issues.

NOTE: The baud rate of the UART is 9600.

3.2 SPI–J1601
Figure 6: SPI–J1601
Note: The J1601 header is connected to the BCM53158 SPI1 master interface by a default board BOM option (R9839,
R9840, R9841, and R9842 are all installed with a 0-ohm resistor in their position A–C only). To connect the BCM53158 SPI2
slave interface to J1601, install a 0-ohm resistor only in position B–C of R9839, R9840, R9841, and R9842.
