The MEYRA Folding Wheelchair model
1.835, fulfills the wish for mobility and more
independence by way of a new styling of the
proven MEYRA technology. Benefit from the
design advantages of your wheelchair, both
indoors (e.g. at home, at your place of work)
and outdoors.
This operating manual will give you all the
information you require – clearly written and
with illustrations.
!
Caution:
Be sure to read and understand this operat-
ing manual and the brochure “Safety infor-
mation – Mechanical wheelchairs” before
your first drive.
Children must read this Operating Manu-
al and the ‘Safety information – mechan-
ical wheelchairs’ brochure together with
a parent or supervising person before
their first drive and thereafter observe the
contents!

ASSEMBLY
The specialist workshop delivers your wheel-
chair to you in an operative state and adapt-
ed to your requirements.
5
SPECIFICATIONS/ UTILISA-
TION
The wheelchair is designed for universal use
and therefore all-round wheelchair for indoor
use (e.g. at home or at the place of work), for
recreational outdoor activities on firm surfac-
es and as a travel companion.
The optimised crossbrace design offers you
both a small folded size and a rigid frame,
i.e. high stability.
It serves exclusively for the transportation of a
person on the seat and not as ladder or as a
means of pulling or transporting items, or sim-
ilar.
!
Caution:
Please observe the brochure “Safety Infor-
mation – Mechanical Wheelchairs” for
your own safety!
AUXILIARY DRIVES
Before attaching auxiliary drives the follow-
ing notes have to be considered:
!
Caution:
Attachment of auxiliary drives may only be
done on wheelchair models cleared for
these.
– The list of wheelchair models cleared for
auxiliary drives can be acquired at any
authorised dealer.
The maximum driving speed of a wheel-
chair with attached auxiliary drive may not
exceed 12 km/h.
Wheelchairs with an attached front mount-
ed pulling auxiliary drive may only be used
in connection with a wheelbase extension.
For safety reasons we recommend the
proper wearing of a crash helmet as well
as sport gloves.
DRIVING
The first adjustment of the driving features of
your wheelchair to suit your personal needs
will be possible at once, following a brief “in-
troductory “ phase of driver training.
!
Caution:
Drive with extreme caution during these first
trips.
Please follow all instructions in the section
“Driver Training” in the brochure “Safety
Information – Mechanical Wheelchairs”!
You will be confronted with new situations
during each trip and will have to cope with
these, as is the case in all areas of life, e.g.
family, career, leisure pursuits. Utilise the fold-
ing wheelchair’s adaptability to the needs of
the user. This offers you outstanding driving
comfort and high operational safety.
This operating manual will give you all neces-
sary information.
!
Caution:
Please follow all instructions in the brochure
“Safety information – Mechanical wheel-
chairs”.
Avoid sudden change to the opposite di-
rection, (e.g. change to forward drive after
driving backwards without any movement
of the steering wheel). – This can lead to
accidents due to full braking while steering
wheels are moving inwards!
In order to raise the backward tilting stabil-
ity supporting wheels can be mounted later
on.
When propelling the wheelchair over the
tyre there is a risk of injury in the area of
the pressure brake.

PARKING BRAKE
The parking brakes are part of the most im-
portant safety elements of a wheelchair.
!
Caution:
Please observe the Maintenance Instruc-
tions as well as instructions in the section
“General Safety Information” and “Brakes”
in the brochure “Safety information - Me-
chanical wheelchairs”!
PRESSURE BRAKE
The wheelchair is fitted with pressure brakes.
It works directly on the tyres.
Pushing the brake levers to the end stop locks
the brakes and prevents your wheelchair from
being pushed (parking brakes).
Benefits:
Controlled braking of the driving speed
(service brake).
Secures the wheelchair against accidental
rolling.
Service brake
Gently and evenly press both brake levers (6)
slightly forwards. This way, you brake the
wheelchair in a measured way (fig. 2).
!
Caution:
If only one brake is applied when the
wheelchair is driving down an incline, the
free-running wheel will continue moving
around the locked wheel. Depending on
the gradient of the road, this can lead to
the wheelchair overturning to the side.
Locking the pressure brakes
Push both brake levers (6) forward as far as
they will go (fig. 3).
Releasing the pressure brakes
Pull both brake levers (6) back, (fig. 2).
!
Caution:
The brake performance decreases when:
tyre profile is worn
tyre pressure is too low
tyres are wet
pressure brake is loose.
Any decrease in braking performance must
be repaired immediately by your specialist
workshop.
8
Adjusting the pressure brakes
The pressure brakes must be readjusted after
each re-fitting of a drive wheel.
Handling:
Loosen the clamping screw (1, fig. 4) of
one pressure brake.
Pre-set the pressure brake – Slide the brake
bolt of the non-activated pressure brake to
a point approx. 15mm to 20mm in front of
the drive wheel.
Tighten clamping screw (1, fig. 4) securely.
Adjust opposite pressure brakes as de-
scribed.
Equally adjust both pressure brakes, taking
into account
tyres of the driving wheels and
tyre pressure and
the weight of the person
adjust evenly. – Danger of accidents caused
by one sided braking effect!
Note:
You will find the air pressure values for the
tyres for your wheelchair in the Technical
Specifications or the information given
for both sides of the wheels.
!
Caution:
It should not be possible to push the wheel-
chair forward when both brakes are
locked.

DRUM BRAKES
The drum brake is activated by the attendant
through the brake levers on the extended han-
dles (fig. 4.1).
Benefits:
braking action independent of tyre pro-
file.
braking action independent of the tyre
pressure.
secure handling for your helper through
brake levers on both handles.
!
Attention:
With the drum brakes version, the helper
must not lift the extended handles. – This
may lead to bending in the subsequently
extended handles to bend.
The brake performance reduces with the
wear on the brake pads.
Any decrease in braking performance
must be repaired immediately by your
specialist workshop.
Function as operating brakes
Pull both brake levers evenly and only lightly
in order to achieve a controlled deceleration
of the wheelchair.

ing latch down with one finger and let it
snap into place.
Let go of the brake lever. – Depending on
the setting, the latching pawl will click
into the first or second latching position
and lock the brake.
Note:
It should not be possible to push the
wheelchair forward when both brakes are
locked.
The brake must be readjusted by a spe-
cialist workshop if the third latching posi-
tion must be used in order to lock the
brake.
Loosen the drum brakes
Pull on both brake levers until the latching
pawls (A, fig. 4.2) jump out of the latching
position by themselves.
Release both brake levers. – The parking
brakes are release and the wheelchair ready
to go.
