Important !
Read the whole of the user instructions
before installation and commissioning.
The installation work should be carried
out by authorized personnel.
General conditions and regulations
for the installation and operation of
electrical plant must be observed.
Measures must be taken to provide pro-
tection against personnel injuries and
damage to machinery in accordance
with local conditions and regulations.
The P 10 is intended for permanent
installation.
No cables may be connected or dis-
connected until the power supply has
been isolated.
Check that the equipment is correctly
connected before it is taken into opera-
tion. See the instructions under the
heading ”Description of connections”
on page 3.
Faults that have occurred due to
in-correct installationor operation
will not be covered by the guarantee.
Regarding the control logic and
operation:
During start up and after each time

During operation
Measurements at the control unit during operation may
be carried out only at the terminal blocks.
N.B. Take extreme care.
On dismantling and scrapping
The enclosure of the P 10 is made of plastic. The material
should be handled and recovered in accordance with
the relevant legislation. The circuit must be handled and
recycled in accordance with current legislation.
P 10 Control unit – General description
The P 10 is a variable speed drive system which is spe-
cially designed for driving rotary heat exchangers.
The control unit is designed for connection to one
geared motor and tachometer from Panasonic.
The control unit incorporates a capacitor for a motor
with a rating of 25 W or 40 W.
No adjustments are necessary.
All control inputs are galvanically isolated from the
mains.
Suitable for most control signals commonly
employed on the market.
The direction of rotation of the motor is reversible.
Functions
Automatic purging operation
If the control signal is below a certain value (for the exact
value, see the section entitled Installation description),
the heat exchanger rotor will rotate through approx.
30° every 10 minutes.
Smooth starting
The control system is equipped for smooth starting of
the motor. During intermittent operation start-up is
adaptive to provide a fast and soft start.
Rotor speed monitor
The speed monitor checks whether the heat exchanger
rotor is rotating. A magnet fitted to the periphery of the
rotor actuates a magnetic sensor once every revolution.
If the belt has failed and the rotor has stopped, the pulses
will cease and an alarm will be initiated after 5 minutes.
The speed monitor also monitors the system during
purging operation, but the time before the alarm is ini-
tiated is then 8 hours.

Recommendations for EMC
An external 10 A fuse should always be installed.
No adjustments to the control unit are necessary.
To ensure conformance to the provisions of the EMC
(electromagnetic compatibility) Directive 89/336/EEC,
it is important that the instructions below should be fol-
lowed.The P 10 incorporates an EMC filter.
The motor and control unit are installed in the heatex-
changer casing.
The earth conductor in the mains cable is connected to
the earth terminal of the control unit and to the casing of
the rotor or air handling unit.
The external cable for the control signal and alarm
should be shielded. The shield should be connected
tothe casing of the rotor or the air handling unit.

To reverse the direction of rotation, the motor cables are
exchanged one with the other at terminals T2 and T3
when the internal motor capacitor is used. When an
external motor capacitor is used, the cable connected to
T2 is exchanged with one that is connected only to the
motor capacitor.

Installation- and maintenance instruction
Description of connections
The following two cables are connected between the
motor unit and the control unit.
Motor cable: 5-core, 1.5 mm2. In the motor, the earth
conductor is connected to the earth screw.
Tachometer cable: 3-core, at least 0.1 mm2, shielded.
The shield is insulated from the motor.
The connections diagram below shows how the various
signals should be connected.
An external 10 A delayed fuse should always be pro-
vided.
An isolating switch should be installed between the
mains and the control unit. When the mains supply is
switched off, a power supply failure alarm will be initi-
ated.
Connection diagram for 25 W and
40 W motors
Rotary heat exchanger EQRB
Caution!
A residual voltage will remain for about 4
minutes after the mains power supply has
been switched off.
No adjustments to the control unit are necessary.
The control unit is not provided with protection
against short circuit between the motor cable con-
ductors or against an earth fault between the motor-
cables and earth. Short circuit will immediately lead
to total breakdown of the control unit.
So before switching on the power supply, always
check withan ohmmeter that there is no short circuit.
Do not connect a switch between the motor and the
control unit.
Important!
Jumper BY1 at the motor terminals
should be cut off if the motor rating is
25 W.

Installation- and maintenance instruction
Check that the installation has been correctly carried
out, e.g. that the terminal screws have been securely
tightened, that the cables have been correctly stripped,
and that the DIP switch settings are correct.
Fault tracing on the P 10
Rotary heat exchanger EQRB
When changing the control unit, change the entire
enclosed case together with its contents.
Observation/ Cause/action
indication
No LED is lit Check that there is 230 VAC ±10% at
the mains termina lblock. If the mains
voltage is correct, replace the control
unit.
Green LED flashing
slowly/ purging
operation
- low control signal
Are + and - reversed?
Are DIP switches 2-3 correctly set?
Vary the control signal between min and
max. Can 0-10 V (2-10 V) be measured
between 33 (+) and 34 (-)?
Check EMX-P10 by linking 36-37. The
motor should now run up to max rpm.
Red LED
is flashing/the
rotation monitor
is giving an alarm
-the motor is still
running.
The rotation monitor has detected that
input 31-32 has not been closed the
last 4 rotor revolutions.
This may be due to:
Faulty rotation monitor. The rotation
monitor can be checked with the
aid of the green LED. First reset the
alarm by switching the mains supply
to the control unit off and on again.
The LED gives a steady light for
about 2 seconds when 31-32 is
closed, e.g. when the magnet
passes the impulse sensor.
Faulty control unit. First reset the
alarm by switching the mains supply
to the control unit off and on again.
Link 36-37. Is the voltage between
terminals T1 and T2 about 180-230
VAC ? If not, replace the control unit.
Observation/ Cause/action
indication
Red LED lights
constantly and
green is off
The motor protector has tripped.
Check that the correct motor is
connected, that jumper BY1 has been
cut if the required value of the motor
capacitor is 1.5 µF and that the heat
exchanger is not binding. Also check
that the tachometer cable is correctly
connected and is not damaged.
The motor runs
intermittently
In continuous operation the speed is
varied continuously from maximum
revs down to 1/25 of the maximum
speed (0.4 –10 rpm at 10 rpm
maximum).
The rotation
monitor does
not give an alarm
Check DIP switch 4.
Also check sensors/magnets.
The motor rota-
tes in the wrong
direction
Swap the motor cables in terminals
T2 and T3 with each other when using
the integrated capacitor.
When the external motor capacitor is
used the cable connected to T2 is swit-
ched with the one that is only connec-
ted to the motor capacitor.
The motor runs
at full speed even
when the control
signal is low
Check the integrated tachometer in
the motor as well as the wiring for the
tachometer.
Motor does not
run smoothly,
jerky
Check that the capacitance value is
correct for the motor being used.
